The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: My longest run is my 7 mile long run I did about 10 days ago!
My shortest recorded run is 1.68 miles, which I did my very first day of running on February 28, 2016. I had been home about a week from a WDW trip in which I tried the PHM 5K on a whim. I couldn't get the runner's high out of my head so decided to give this thing a shot. The route map is hilarious - just circuitous loops around the little green space behind my building because I was embarrassed for anyone to see me out there trying to act like a runner.

Today was supposed to be a six mile run and I made it less than two before I decided to walk/limp and call it a day. I was having horrible cramps in my calves despite wearing calf sleeves. I even slowed down my pace and at less than a mile, I had to stop and stretch. I had spasms all night long so I should have known to just walk this morning and not try to run.

I'm starting to wonder whether we are training for the Dopey Challenge or the Antarctica Marathon? With the sub-zero training runs and snow up the wazoo, it's getting hard to tell.

We're not quite as cold as you guys are here, but man what a temperature roller coaster this weekend! 34 for a high today. 71 for the high on Sunday. Then back to a high of 37 on Monday! It's hard not to pick up a cold with the temps bouncing like that.

Between you, @rteetz, and other WI/MN/IL DISers' weather reports, I'm really happy with our decision to stay put for the holidays! :)

We're looking at 7-11 inches of snow tonight through tomorrow. And then on Sunday a HIGH of -5 and a WC of -28!!! That's suppose to be an 18 mile day, but my better half (my wife) is telling me no way. I've got a plan in place to try and get it done on Monday instead (a balmy -6 in the afternoon).

I agree. I'm not a fan of the sub zero. I can deal with the snow. Sitting here watching the 8-12 inches fall.

Florida can't come soon enough!

And that's why I'm learning to love the treadmill and Netflix.

No thank you, please. Brrrr. Stay safe and warm, good grief.

I'm looking at upper 60s/low 70s for my early morning 12-miler tomorrow. And honestly, FL needs to get with the winter* program already.

*you know, in Florida terms

It's pretty bad up in New England lately, too. :) It is currently 0F. The wind chill today was like -20 or -25F. My group run tomorrow morning was canceled due to a snowstorm that is supposed to start around 6am. :(

That's about what it's looking like here this weekend too. 8-12 inches overnight and early tomorrow. And then dipping down to -27 or so Sunday morning before rebounding for a high of -8. My wife has all but forbidden me from running Sunday as well. I wish I had time to get my 20 miles in on Monday, but it may have to wait until Christmas Eve.

QOTD: My longest run, according to RunKeeper, was the 2016 WDW Marathon. It says I did 27.28 miles. I had to go to the bathroom about 15 times during that race, which is not typical for me, but all the trips into the bathrooms in the parks must have added some serious distance.

I have no idea what my shortest run is. I didn't even make it out of view of my house. My leg wasn't feeling right one day and I turned around and came home. I suspect that I will break even that record in 2 weeks when I start running again. It isn't going to be pretty.

As for next year's thread. I am not sure what you mean about the question of the day so I can't answer that one. I would have no issue with people posting their daily workouts. I follow a few people on Instagram and they post their's. I find it motivating because they will all admit when they didn't want to run or do their workout on those days when they didn't feel it, but you still see they did it. Kinda makes you not want to skip your own.

It was 2 degrees here today with a brutal wind. I was happy not to be running today. I wish I was going to Disney for marathon weekend though. It has me so bummed out.

Ain't. No. Way.

My friends who have run Antarctica said it wasn't bitterly cold. Windy but not -20 or anything like that. One guy said the Arctic Circle marathon was much worse.

Interesting! It's on my to-do list to run all seven continents (like a far-out, probably never happen bucket list item). So it's good to know I'll be better than prepared being from Wisconsin.
Well, that makes sense at least! Everyone knows it get colder as you go further north and warmer as you go further south! :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2
