The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: I'm running my first Turkey Trot ever on Saturday. I mostly just want the free cinnamon roll they advertised. I'm thankful the forecast says 50 degrees that day (for now.)

But I am really thankful that I found this community. I can't believe I started this year with my first Disney 5k and how much you've all taught me since then. :)

There is a long-standing Turkey Trot in the next town over, but it was held this past Sunday -- and I wasn't able to run. Maybe next year? I am scheduled to run on Thursday, so will likely go in the morning after I get the turkey in the oven!

I'm thankful for so much -- but good health, for myself and my family, is a big one.

QOTD: Anyone doing a Turkey Trot of similar type race this week? Since it is Thanksgiving, what is something you are thankful for that you would like to share with the group? Todays QOTD is a great suggestion by a fellow poster of this forum. Thanks for the suggestion!
No Turkey Trot for me this year. But I have an 8-miler scheduled for that day and am also making an apple pie...not sure which will be more challenging!

I'm thankful for my health and that I'm able to run again. And for my husband, who is always in my corner. :lovestruc
I'm running the 5 miler in Cleveland on Thursday. Not racing it at all, just getting some miles in.
Have fun! I thought about doing that one but decided I'm too lazy to drive downtown that day. :) I'm pretty jealous that they're now giving out medals, though.

ATTQOTD: No race for me on Thanksgiving, but we are hosting my husband's sister (and her family) and his little brother this year and we are all going see to Moana before our meal, so I am super pumped for Thursday. I will run a 3 miler that morning. I have a lot to be thankful for, but this morning I'll say I'm thankful for the disboards where I can "interact" with people that share my passion for disney and running! The internet can be a beautiful thing sometimes :)

ATTQOTD: Doing my first Turkey Trot on Thursday. There was a groupon for a local one so I signed both my husband and me up. I asked if he wanted to race me and he asked what the distance was and I said 10 miles and his response: :scared1: When I told him I was joking and it was a 5k, he said was up for the challenge. :smooth: My little guy might even run the kids dash afterwards.

Others said it better, but I'm thankful for family, friends, and the camaraderie and support from this board.

@LSUlakes can you put me down for the following:
24 - dis_or_dat - Gobble Wobble 5k (22:00 / N/A)

A few non running related questions:
1. Any good WDW or Walt Disney book recommendations?
2. What makes a annual pass worth it? Benefits? Discussions have taken place on the 10 hours in the car Sunday... Looking for talking points on this.
3. FSU fans, what is the local media saying about Jimbo to LSU talk?

TIA!
1. "Inside The Magic Kingdom" by Tom Conellan
2. I live 90 mins from WDW and visit often enough to make the FL resident priced APs worth it, but that's the only reason I keep renewing: the benefits come and go and are in no way worth the cost on their own, IMO. It really comes down to # of days in parks per year.
3. <---- FL Gator, so beats me. ;)

ATTQOTD: My local Turkey Trot happens to cross a route I usually run, so I'll probably unofficially run some of it before the race actually starts, as usual! I'm really thankful right now for the ability to escape the media (and especially social media - which is my job) through running.

Hey all you 2018 Dopey's...get your wallets ready. Registration date is in February 2017!!!! Ryan listed all the official registration dates over in the "new dates" thread.
I said it there, and I'll say it here - TOO EARLY. Almost 11 months before the race weekend, really?!

Not sure if I can commit to that with my wonky back and no more deferrals. :confused3

What if runDisney offers something new like race insurance or something. I have heard rumblings that might happen.

ATTQOTD: No Turkey Trots in my area sadly as I have to run 3 miles that day anyway. I am thankful for my husband for being so supportive an understanding of my running and goals. This is not a cheap sport so without his support I wouldn't be able to do half of what I have planned. Leading to my 2nd thing to be thankful for this year, a new job that allows me alone to cover all of our monthly bills so we actually have money left over at the end of the month for said running (DH is self employed so can never count on a certain amount each week/month). Lastly, thankful for friends, family, and good health allowing me to run. (Just in case anyone wonders, all of you fit in the "friends" category! :) )

I've heard that too. I don't know why they don't already do this since Active.com does their registrations, and most other races I have signed up for through Active offer race insurance.

It's just a lot of money to commit this early SO far out.
I won't even have paid off my Dopey '17 trip by then! Ridiculous.
Right??! :rolleyes2 I am crazy annoyed by this. I thought I would have more time to think about it.

Completely agree this is going to be interesting to see how it plays out.

For those who are eating turkey in the coming days, what is your preferred method of cooking it. Baked, smoked or fried? Fried turkey if the way to go for me. In fact, after we do our family meal for lunch, I have two turkeys in the fridge to fry as a little pregame entertainment before the LSU / Aggies game.

Usually we bake but my aunt is making one on the grill this year and one baked.
