@SunDial I'm sorry for your loss. Lost daddy the last week of August and am finally starting to feel "normal" again, so I feel your loss. I found that following my training plan kept me sane when times came that I couldn't figure out what to do with myself. I hope you recover from your fall quickly and can get back to training soon. This group is so supportive!
I've done a few trail races from 5K to 15K, nothing longer. Advice: Don't fall and hit your head! I find that all is good for a short race, but as I get tired, I fail to pick up my feet! If I stumble, I know to slow way down or even take a walk break. That may mean stepping off the trail and letting others pass if it is a single track. My trail mantra is "Pick up your feet, pick up your feet, pick up your feet."
@SunDial and
@Disney at Heart- I am so sorry for your losses!
Ok, I am behind by almost 50 pages! I love you all, but I AM NOT going back there. LOL. Work has been crazy, so I haven't been reading, and I haven't been running that much. Somehow I think those last two are connected. I don't really have any races planned, other than the LS 10k, either, so maybe that has something to do with it too. I've just been so stressed and headachy after work that all I've wanted to do is go home and have a glass of wine. I really need to become a morning runner ... I. Just. Can't. LOL
So, can anyone give me a 50 page synopsis of what I missed in 100 words or less?
OH! My good news is I planned a trip back to WDW for mid December!! Woohoo! Talk about last minute planning!
I know when work stinks it is hard to think about running but isn't that when you need it the most? Get back out there and work off the stress, you know you will feel better if you do!
QOTD: With cooler temps and higher mileage, we as runners seem to be at a higher risk to catching the common cold. What do you do to try to prevent from getting sick during the fall and winter while ramping up the training? If you do get sick what do you do to try to recover quickly?
ATTQOTD: I've read that as we put more stress on our body from increased training that we become more susceptible to getting sick / common cold. I've read that we need to drink plenty of fluids and avoid crowded areas shortly after a hard effort run. Sometime that is not possible with avoiding large crowds or confined places with just a few people. I do try to drink more fluids and wash my hands more frequently, but it never fails. I will get sick during a training cycle. Usually it happens around November, but this year, my cold came early. I have a lot of weird reactions to over the counter meds for the common cold, so my approach is drink more OJ, taking some olive leaf supplement and elderberry supplement. Its all sinus at this point. Runny nose and a lot of pressure in my head. Like bending down to tie my shoes, my head feels like its going to explode. The good news is that when I am running I feel 100% better, but the congestion is effecting sleep. I hope this thing gets better before the weekend!
Since vomitting is my biggest fear right about this time of year is when my obsessive hand washing begins. It lasts until about May. If I find out you are sick, or have been sick, then don't come near me for a week. My kids are the only exception to that rule.
This week we have the following folks with races:

For the third, and final time this year, you can take me off the list. This will be my fourth race missed for injury in a year. It's getting old.
Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself. We are due to take our next WDW vacation in January 2018 (we moved to Australia from Scotland so vacations to Disney won't be as frequent)! I know it is a looooonng way off but I have set myself a target of doing the 2018 WDW half marathon so I have decided to get back into running.
It has been a while and I have had two kids since I ran the London Marathon in 2007. I will need to build up gradually so I did a 5k on Sunday at a local Sportsfest in a rather slow 39.38mins. I am also doing the Lake Macquarie 5k Color Run on October 16. Aiming to do a race a month as it really keeps my motivation up. Sorry my intro is so long. Been lurking for a while so wanted to say hi!
Welcome. Your intro isn't long at all, no worries. And don't feel weird planning your race for 2018. Many of us have plans for that weekend as well.

I'm jealous!
I went to the doctor today. I am out of my boot. I can start really working at PT now that my bone is healed. The screw is coming out of my foot on 10/25, at least that's the plan. I can start riding my bike outside anytime now. The PT suggested I wait until my legs are stronger before I start doing hills and stuff. Normally I wouldn't but I am going to listen for a change. I do the bike for a month, move to an elliptical for 6 weeks, and then I can finally attempt to run. The doctor said a treadmill but I may just take it easy on the road because the treadmill hurts me more than the road.
I finally got to ask him questions because I'm a genius and ask after the surgery, not before. I had seen his NP for the follow ups so it was my first time seeing him since. He explained the bone cutting and realignment. He told me how bad the tendons were, and they were bad. He explained how he fixed them. So, now I am a little more confident in running because the "tube" he put over the tendons is a really strong synthetic material. He says I should be good for a while.
The only really bad news today is, I have to start back to work on 11/1. I need the money, I have lost a lot being out of work this long, but my goodness do I dread going back.
