The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: When you go on vacation (That is not based on a running event) do you bring your running gear with you? Do you actually make it out for a run?
I take my running gear with me any time that I travel for more than 2 days. And, yes, I run on all of those trips, whether they be business or pleasure.

I enjoy running, so why deprive myself just because I am on the road?

Well my last two vacations were marathon weekend so yes I brought my running gear.

I almost always pack it but usually don't use it. It sounds like a great idea but then I realize I have to get up extra early to run and then still do the whole day of sight seeing or whatever is planned. That extra sleep is valuable.
For my most recent trip, though, I purposefully didn't pack gear so I wouldn't be tempted run since I'm rehabbing an injury but the weather was so gorgeous, I ended up buying shorts and a shirt and heading out anyway.

ATTQOTD: I do bring my running stuff with me but I end up only getting half of my runs in that I planned on doing.

I usually bring my running stuff. I actually love to run when we are travelling because it gives me a chance to get out and explore a new area from a different vantage point that I might see just walking around or driving in a car. I don't always get all my runs in though and sometimes I have to cut some runs short.

I don't understand the question. What's a vacation?!!!!

ATTQOTD: I usually bring my running gear on vacation. Always for our beach week because I really do look forward to running on the sand and bike paths (it's so flat!). The only exception might be when I go somewhere on a plane. If I can get away with not checking a bag, I try not to. But if I am going to be out of town for more than 3 days, I'll bring a shirt, shoes and socks for running. It's a great way to see new places.

I usually bring my gear with me and if it's an area I'm familiar with (hometown or Disney, etc.) since I'm running alone, I do make it out for at least one run. Last summer, I visited my parents and managed to get out every morning because I was doing the Runner's World running streak.

ATTQOTD: I usually bring my running gear on vacation - sometimes it makes it out of the suitcase and sometimes it doesn't. In two weeks we will be spending spring break in Pigeon Forge, TN. We rented a cabin and from the looks of the pictures I think it will be a great spot for some hill training!

I almost always take my running gear and make time for a run when I'm traveling. But we have a vacation coming up where we're traveling on a budget airline so we're trying to really streamline so we don't have to pay for an extra bag (they charge for carry on as well as checked). Plus it's a trip where we'll be doing lots of hiking. So I think I'm going to skip the running gear on that trip since we'll be active in other ways.

On vacation right now and made it out for a 6 mile run yesterday. Like most, I usually plan on running more miles than I end up running. Gear takes up a relatively small portion of space when packing so I don't really have an excuse not to take it. Besides going out for a run makes me feel good and helps me enjoy other aspects of vacation (food) without quite so much guilt.

My vacations are to Disney for the most part these days and lately that involves a race there, so yep running gear comes.

On a side note - I have been logging my shoes, and one pair that is right over 300 miles (probably a little more as I loose track of extra walks/etc) I think is done for. I thought I could squeeze more out but I don't think so. So, I still have another pair of Nimbus 16s that aren't dead yet and then breaking in a new 17 pair.
So Question - Anyone with Nimbus find the part across the toe stiffer in the 17s than 16s? I'm liking them except that part feels stiffer than the 16s. guess they'll break in.

I haven't been on that many vacations but one I brought clothes on and didn't run. The other I didn't bring running clothes on but probably would have considered running.

In have not taken a real vacation for over a decade. Since my kids are grown there have been just short trips to WDW since I am only a 2 hour drive away. For those trips not on a race weekend I have brought my gear but have not always ran while there

Yup always! I love running in new places (whether the beach or in a new big city). I will never forget how FUN it was to go on a 6 mile solo run through Manhattan and into Central Park on my first NYC vacation 4 years ago :)

ATTQOTD: Yes, I always bring running stuff, I would say it gets used only half the time. But our vacations are usually very active. I imagine if I ever go on a beach only vacation, I would be more likely to use the running clothes.

I always bring my running stuff! I get my runs in however they might not always be as long as I planned.

No, thankfully I haven't. I imagine I would be pretty frustrated if I had trained for that distance and was excited to see my time, etc.

Also, I have a general question for you runners. What motivation do you give yourself when you are having a hard time getting out the door on a particular day? Most days, I just plan my exercise and do it. But sometimes, I need an extra little push just to get me out of the door. I'm always so happy that I've made myself get out there and by mile 1, I'm usually feeling great. But, I would love some more tips and extra motivation!

One of my big motivators when times grow hard (mostly during COLD New England months) is tracking my records. I've been tracking all my runs at RunningAhead.com and I love inputting new runs. I'm a stats nut so I have all different kinds of charts, graphs, etc and adding new material is fun.

I have the Nimbus 17's. I don't have any 16's to compare them to but the toe doesn't feel at all stiff to me in the 17's.

QOTD: I have only been on one non-running trip since I began running. I took my stuff and I did get out and run. I ran through Colonial Williamsburg. It was very peaceful and fun exploring the area. When driving you miss so much stuff. This is why I love runDisney races so much. You get to see WDW in so much more detail while running as opposed to cruising around in crowded buses.
