The Running Thread - 2016

ATTQOTD: May go out for a beer but have to get ready to head to NYC tomorrow for the NYC Half this weekend, so can't live it up too much. Anyone else doing it?

QOTD: not doing too much for St. Patrick's. I like the idea of wearing the dopey shirt. I am home so will do that! Last night the leprechauns visited our house turning the milk green and getting into treats/leaving a mess on the counter to the delight of our girls. That will be it for this year as my father-in-law was moved to hospice yesterday. Going to run though, in just a few.

ETA - I'll add one more thing. Just because something hasn't been scientifically proven to be beneficial doesn't mean that it isn't beneficial. .

So basically what I am taking away from this statement is that I can claim that me watching Bachelor episodes after my long runs in beneficial even though not scientifically proven? Ok, good. I'll keep doing that once the Bachelorette season starts up.

QOTD: How are you celebrating St. Patricks day?
ATTQOTD: I am wearing a specific shade of red because it is my family's crest (Clan Ryan!) even though I married a french canadien/bohemian guy, gotta represent my roots.
Edited: to note that those are griffins so I am a real-life gryffindor (and also a nerd)

It rained for our Southside Irish parade so did not get to participate :(
But I had soda bread for breakfast and tonight I'll be making Irish tacos (no that's not anything traditional...it's regular tacos cooked by an Irish person...with green lettuce...I forgot to buy corned beef...my mom would not be proud)
And then I guess my Shamrock Shuffle 8k is technically at the beginning of April...don't ask me why. It will be a belated celebration I guess.

ATTQOTD: I ate Lucky Charms for breakfast:) Wore green to the gym, wearing green again now. I'd usually make corned beef and cabbage, but kids don't like it and DH left on a business trip this morning. I'm not making it for just myself. Like @BuckeyeBama I have a daughter with a birthday tomorrow, so the weekend is all about that!

ATTQOTD: No time for green beer today. After work we will be running kids to the dentist and karate. My Irish Jig 5K is Saturday and the temperature that morning will only be around 29, so I'll be wearing my Guinness hat for sure.

Just had to say that I think that was a really classy move DopeyBadger! Especially given the hat I can't keep a pair of sunglasses for more than a few months with out losing them or breaking them.

Thanks! I always try and do what I hope others would do for me. One weekend I was doing my long run and someone stole all of my replacement water bottles off the park table I leave them on (first time in 4 years). It was mid-run and I was so upset because I didn't think I'd be able to finish without the water. About 0.5 mile later I saw some "neighbors" (they live about a mile away and I've only smiled or maybe said hi to them in 4 years of running past their house every day) who were just leaving their house to go on a walk. On a previous run I saw a 13.1 sticker on their car, so I asked them if they could do me a huge favor and fill up the running bottles I had with me. They didn't hesitate and were extremely happy to help me out. It was so nice of them and I knew when it came time to repay the neighborhood I would make sure to do the right thing as well.

As far as St. Patrick's Day, I am doing what one of my favorite things. Binge watching the NCAA Basketball tournament. I've taken off for the next four days and ready to sit and watch all of the excitement. I like to fill out brackets and put them into free contests online (with prizes ranging in $500, tickets to any 4 sporting events all year, or up to $50,000). This year I used 538's power ratings and made an excel sheet that automatically simulated the tournament and chose the winners of each game based on the probability that one power rating would beat another. Now we'll see how my 62 brackets do this year.

Yep, @roxymama watching the Bachelor may very well improve long runs and the recovery afterwards. I just haven't seen a scientific study either confirming or denying this hypothesis. :D

ATQOTD:

Nothing much planned here. Watching basketball and packing for vacation. I'm not really Irish and don't drink alcohol so this Holiday usually isn't a big one for me.

QOTD: How are you celebrating St. Patricks day?

It's St. Patrick's Day.

I be wearing a green tshirt with bow tie and resemblin' a wee leprechaun. (Are there any 6 foot leprechauns?)

Made some green beer and sharing with coworkers and friends at the end o' work. Come by and have a drink!

QOTD: How are you celebrating St. Patricks day?

1. Ran my tempo run this morning (10 mi with 7mi of it at tempo pace).
2. Wore my shamrock tie to my one and only work meeting today.
3. Tonight, we will be packing/getting ready to leave for WDW tomorrow for Spring Break next week.
4. Will probably drink a beer while we pack.
