The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: Do you run in cotton shirts and/or shorts?
I used to, then I learned better. I am a heavy sweater, so cotton is a bad idea for me.

The sad thing - wicking fabrics stink when exposed to sweat. Want to get rich - invent an effective wicking fabric that doesn't do this.

Well I just submitted my lottery application for the Marine Corps Marathon. I didn't get into Beach to Beacon through that lottery, hoping this one goes better:)

Good luck! Don't know if you've done it but it's a great race. Lot of people annoyed about them moving the expo though.

ATTQOTD: No cotton running shorts or shirts.

Five mile trail race this weekend but not on the list.

Last race weekend of the month and only two folks with races this weekend. One of those is me, and well, at this point, its just going to be more of a fun run since I am lazy.

@WhereInFlorida big race for you this weekend. Hope training has gone well and the weather will be ideal. Good luck on your marathon!

Fun runs sometimes turn out to be the best races.

Thank you, training has gone well and hoping for redemption over the disaster that was the Disney Marathon. Monday's weather would have been perfect but since has returned to warm spring weather and possibly rain. Not worrying too much about the weather, will deal with what comes.

Good luck WhereinFlorida and LSUlakes!

QOTD: So it is fair to say I like to save my pennies; ok, I am cheap! When I started running again I stuck to what I had at home. I ran in regular t-shirts all the time. Eventually I got caught in a significant downpour while on a long run. I got soaked! Let's just say I learned that you can chaff in places I thought was just a joke. Hurt for days! I run in tech stuff exclusively now!!

ATTQOTD: Like a lot of others on here I started running in whatever I had around the house but after some very uncomfortable runs I quickly went out and bought running clothes.

Can you please add me for The Dark side Half on 4/17, The Tinkerbell Half on 5/8 and The Bridge of Lions 5k on 7/16 Thanks!

ATTQOTD: Since I am still a relative "newbie" to running, the tech stuff was readily available. Easy choice to stick with tech.
I do have some cotton race shirts that I will wear for layering on very cold days.

QOTD: I normally run in tech clothes but during the winter I wore a few long sleeve cotton shirts as one of my layers needed during the cold. I don't like it but it had to be done. When they got sweaty they stuck to me and were hard to take off. The weather has probably turned for the better and I seem to be able to just run in shorts now.

Good luck to those racers this weekend.

I am planning to finalize my race schedule this weekend and sign up for everything I can and then wait for the others where registration hasn't opened yet. I will post my schedule so they can be added to the list.

No, this would be my first full. I lived in DC, MD and VA for 10 years and loved the area. I always figured if I ever did a full it would be there or WDW. Have other plans for Disney in 2017, so decided to go for this one first. Fingers crossed!

ATTQOTD: I am with the majority here. Started with the cotton t-shirts and shorts for about a year before getting some tech shirts, and boy, they made a huge difference.

ATTQOTD: I started out in old thermals that were similar to a tech shirt material because it was cold when I started. I haven't ever used cotton.

I haven't done a full yet but I kind of think that if I decide to do one, my first will either be MCM or Disney :) I'm planning to be down there cheering the runners on!

QOTD: Easter weekend is upon us. I realize there are a number of things that make this event very different for different people. So my question is, what do you do for Easter weekend?

ATTQOTD: Being a Catholic in the south, it's a big event. Today is Good Friday and family gathering takes place after mass. Crawfish boil is usually the plan. Not much on Saturday, but the Crescent City Classic 10k is always the Saturday before Easter, so we head to NOLA for the race. Sunday is church, egg hunts, and candy for the kiddos. It's usually very nice weather and this year is no exception. So in short we spend a lot of time outdoors with family and friends.

We are pretty religious, so the week leading up to Easter, we read Easter stories, sing songs, talk about it, etc. Sunday morning will be church. Take some family pics (I go a little crazy and get us all new coordinating Church outfits haha). Then Easter egg hunt and Easter dinner down at my sister's house. Lots of fun! Hopefully I won't eat too much chocolate :/

Happy Easter weekend everybody!!!

Good luck to everyone with races this weekend, as well as to those that are training or recovering. It all counts!!
