The Running Thread - 2016

Found lots of change of all sorts, put it in the running change cup, surprisingly it adds up, the quarters/dimes that is the pennies not as much.

Whole roll of electrical tape, that can be valuable.

Found someone's wallet spread all over the road, got it back to the person as that was value to them.

Found someone's goat & returned it, I'm sure they valued it.

Oh and some keys before, & mail (looked important too).

Then there's the odd stuff that really I don't think there's value in it, like chopped up dolls once.

Hmmm, do you run near a dump? ;)

QOTD: Have you ever found anything of value while out for a run?

Nope nothing.

DD and I had to make the "adult" decision today that we are going to put off Avengers to another year. We were getting too stressed out over money and with that race and Goofy both registering in April it was just too much. We are planning on our Marathon on Labor Day, then our family vacation is in WDW in September too. Then Goofy in January. So much to save up for. Plus I have 4 races coming up, 2 out of state (drivable at least) that require hotels and eating out and such. And hopefully I can go visit her in June/July in Colorado so more plane tickets. Sigh, adulting sucks sometimes. :(

ATTQOTD: I found a $20.00 and that's about it.

It will sound corny but I found my life back. I have shared my story many times, it's no secret. But I found my self-worth. I found my self-confidence. I found out there is another way to live your life other than beating yourself up all the time.

It wasn't what you meant by the question I'm sure but to me that has more value than anything.

I've run in a dump before, well actually a former dump that was converted to a county park. It's probably the hilliest place to run in totally flat south Florida,I've done the King of the Hill challenge there the last couple of years,a 5K followed by a 5K color run,in those 10K you go up and down the hill like 6 times and since it's in late August/early September the race really wipes you out.

That just totally choked me up! And I don't think it's corny, I think it's great!

QOTD: Lets talk about socks! What is your favorite brand/type of running socks? Do you think the socks you run in really matter? Do you use compression socks during and/or after a run?

ATTQOTD: I run in Balega socks and nothing else. I have tried others, but just don't care for them. I rarely end up with blisters of any sort with this particular sock. I will wear compression socks after a hard workout and long runs. It may all be mental, but I find it helps.

I am so happy you asked this question today! I'm starting to develop a "hot spot" on my upper inner area (like below the ball of my foot where the arch starts) and I'm not sure if it's because of A) the socks I am wearing, B) my shoes needing updating C) my mileage per week and session increasing or D) warmer weather makes my feet sweatier. I was actually ho-humming about this last night. Right now I run in either under-armour tech socks from Sports Authority because I was gifted a big pack of them or Boombas because I was gifted a big pack of them. I completely ditched my old target champion white cotton socks for running because they were not comfortable and didn't breath at all.
Since I have a big Expo to attend in a few weeks pre-race I am going to watch these answers intently in case I can do some sock buying damage at the expo.

I like to wear CEP compression socks for my Half Marathons and Marathons and wear them during most of my longer training runs. I'll wear them after runs some of the time. I feel better having them on but have nothing but personal anecdotal evidence to say that I think they are helpful. I've tried a couple other brands and prefer CEP when it comes to compression socks. On shorter runs I will wear basically any type of no-show sock, but I like the little tab at the back the prevents slipping and keeps the back of my shoe from rubbing my achilles.
