The Running Thread - 2016

My 2017 resolution is to be more of a lady and curse less ... this is brilliant! I'm going to start using it now!

I curse like a sailor and still think of myself as a lady. ;)

"Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History"

ATTQOTD: I wear a fitbit mostly for work as well. We have a wellness program where you can earn up to $1000 per year toward an HRA that is in addition to our regular insurance coverage. If you cover at least 6000 steps per day you get $1 a day for up to $200 for the year.

My Garmin tracks my steps but I don't actively try to reach the goal on non running days because I know my running days make up for it. A few friends of mine will run in place or do laps around their houses at the end of the day so they can beat their friends.

I feel the same way about the "move" alert on my Garmin after my long runs @Dis5150!

ATTQOTD: I do wear a fitbit, but am losing my interest in step counting as I run more. It is really scary how sedentary I can be at work though. I wish my fitbit would nudge me every hour to get up and walk around.

I am scheduled to run 8 miles this weekend (my longest ever!), but the HIGH on Saturday is -1F. I love my treadmill, but even I am a little nervous about running that long on the 'mill.

Lame. I'm probably going to have to do something similar. :(

I've got 14 to do on Sunday and we're having an epic 50-degree weather drop between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Back to the Hamster Wheel for me. :(

We are also having some nasty cold here, wind chills will be well below 0F most of the day on Friday, but it is supposed to warm up to ~19F by the time my group run starts on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, it's also supposed to start snowing about an hour and a half before that. :(

It's gonna be like -2 here tomorrow...NEWP. :sad2:

It's forecasted to be -12 at the time I normally run tomorrow with a windchill pushing -30. Gonna have to alter my route to do laps around the neighborhood, so I'll be close to home if I get too cold. I sweated through 3 layers last night in -10 windchill, so hoping another layer will keep me warm enough.

Too cold for me!
Yeah, I've been sentenced to the treadmill tomorrow. "Only" 20 degrees here but 40 - 50 MPH winds.
OMG killer wind is sooo bad :( good luck on the treadmill!

I want to run in the snow!!!! Unless I travel somewhere it probably isn't going to happen though. My long run this weekending is looking like its going to be warm and wet. No fun!

I dunno if the group might get canceled because of the snow, though. :( We are supposed to do a holiday themed run... I need to go over to Target and see if they have any ugly sweaters or santa hats I can wear. I have literally nothing red or green or holiday-ish to wear.

I have my local running group tonight -- but I am going to try to get my run in at lunchtime, since temps are going to drop big time during the day, and the winds are supposed to pick up (65 mph are predicted). I'll probably still go to the group run, mainly because they have a vendor there with a new safety notification device I am interested in checking out -- but I may only run around the block and call it a night! ;-)

QOTD: Does it bother you if someone calls you a jogger (or reference running as jogging)?
It depends on the context. If I said "Yeah, I'm a runner." and someone jumped in with something like "At your pace you're more of a jogger." then I'd be bothered. If it was not meant as a comment of "You're too slow to be a runner" then I have no problem with it because I am slow enough for it to be a jog. That's not for others to judge though.

Bonus QOTD (BQOTD): What is the worse thing a coach or similar type role has said to you?
Not a coach because I can't remember any of my coaches ever being cruel but I finished a no frills 10k ($5 for charity) as a run to get back into things after a rough weekend with a local athletics group. What I didn't realize was how fast the group was. At the end one of the race coordinators who lead the group (easily identified by their shirts) asked "Was that your first 10k?" based on how slow I was. I was mildly insulted.

QOTD: Do you track steps? If so what do you do with that information? Do you have a goal?
Some weekends if I know I'm going to be doing a lot of walking. Otherwise nope. I generally don't since my garmin doesn't exactly say business casual.

If anyone is looking to run a Rock-n-Roll series race next year they are running a pretty good discount on entry fees today only. For Rock-n-Roll Raleigh the discounts were ~$40 off both the half and full. It did seem to vary by race location, though. Clicking around I saw half and full discounts ranging from $20-50 dollars.

What's everyone's plan with shoes? I've got about 300 miles on my current pair, but I love them (and can't find another pair of the same). Trying to decide if I should keep or switch!
