The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: What are your running goals for the month of October?
Two:

For myself - maintain my fitness as I progress through my Dopey training plan with a focus on remaining injury free.

For my wife and our rD training group - help them continue to take time off of their runs (they are running the 5k & 10k). Their long run is already at 7.5 miles at a pace that will get them across the finish line with plenty of time to spare, so now we just have to work on a pace that will allow us to take more character stops along the course. I mean, it's Disney, so it's all about the character stops.

QOTD: What are your running goals for the month of October?

October is scheduled to be a big month for me with the following goals:
1. A new weekly mileage PR. Currently 55.05, I have planned 56, 59, & 64.
2. A new monthly mileage PR. Current - 171.63. If everything goes perfect I should hit near 250.
3. A new half marathon PR. Current - 1:39:28, race is 10/16. Goal around 1:35:00
4. Stay injury free!
- Stick to my training plan as best as possible
- Stay injury free!
- Remember that I am lucky to be running :)

ATTQOTD: October is the last full month of training before my marathon, so it's a high mileage month with 192 miles scheduled. I'll be so ready for the taper to start the last week of the month. BTW - thanks for asking this question, because it made me look at my training plan. I pretty much thought I had it memorized, so I don't look often. Well, I realized I ran an extra 8 miles last week. I would have done it two more times if I hadn't checked. I'm totally looking forward to my easy 34 mile week next week instead of dreading another 42 mile week.

Been away for a few days, so will start with September totals:

Miles: 70.51 (down from last month)
Pace: 13:38 (exactly the same...might have been up if I hadn't stopped for SO many photos during Dumbo)
Elevation Gain: 1,359 feet (up 300 feet!)

I knew that I was in a bit of trouble though when my Garmin suggested recovery time after my 7 mile tempo run on Thursday was 65 hours. :scared: Typically my suggested recovery time is less than 12 hours after an easy run, and about 26 hours after a tempo run. I thought it was a glitch, but apparently it wasn't.

Which Garmin watch gives you a suggested recovery time? This might be something I consider for my next upgrade since, when I start to make real progress I also tend to push too hard.

Well marathon #9 is in the books. It was a tough run for me. Still able to nail a PR at 3:23:43 and nail new PRs regardless of race distance for overall place %, gender place %, and division place %. Surprisingly 28.6% of people who started the race did not finish. Tough day! Hoping my left leg heals well enough to get back to training for Dopey, but I'll be taking a cautious approach.
I was wrapping up a Cub Scout camping trip with my son this weekend and wondered how your race was going/went. Will head over to read in a bit. Congrats on the PR!

ATTQOTD: My goals for October: 1) Speed up just a bit. 2) Race a 5K. 3) Don't get hurt! (I have been feeling like I've been making decent progress over the past few weeks and I always manage to go just a tad too far in my training when I feel this way.)

ATTQOTD: I'm starting to ramp up miles and efforts for my January marathon. My goals will be to obviously stay on plan, but also stay patient and smart about my results. I don't want to get all crazy and start adjusting goals when I have a good or great run, and also don't want to beat myself up when I have a bad run.

QOTD: What are your running goals for the month of October?

I have similar goals as yours.

1 - New monthly miles PR. Currently 114.11
2 - New weekly miles PR. Currently 42.5
3 - Run a half marathon. Currently the plan is to run it as a training run, but that may change just to get used to the distance after a not completely successful attempt at my first half
4 - Stick to my training plan. All of the above will be accomplished if I accomplish this one.

ATTQOTD: My October goal is to restart running without re-injuring my foot. Since my enthusiastic restart in September brought issues with it, I need to take it slower. Just a couple of short runs per week for now. But I am planning on staying busy with some cross training. Big plan is to try out yoga (read the comments on this thread about how much it is recommended and always wanted to give it a try).

Goals for October
1. 10 miler PR at the Army 10 miler this weekend... Should be possible since my one and only 10 miler so far was Tower of Terror in 2014 and that was my first big race.
2. Continue training for RnR Vegas half
3. Stay injury free... this weird knee pain from this past weekend is really spooking me.

QOTD: What are your running goals for the month of October?

1) Stick with my half marathon training plan and start increasing my mileage on my long runs (up to 8 or 9 miles by end of month)
2) Try not to get too frustrated when my training runs feel difficult ... remember that not every day will feel great but that if I keep putting in the miles I will reach my goal :)

QOTD: What are your running goals for the month of October?

Not sure anymore. I had a right hip burstis injury a couple months ago (which has since healed), and now I think I have a slight strain of my left hip flexor. So, I first need to let my hip flexor repair itself. I do have a half marathon this month, but based on my earlier injury, I was already planning on taking it as a fast training run instead of a race. Assuming my current injury heals in the next few days to a week, I will still use the half as a training run. Otherwise, I will just try to get back to normal training by the end of the month.
