The River Rapids Ride has to be improved.

I couldn't agree more. We avoided the ride because we didn't want to be soaking wet all day. We decided we would wait and ride it for our last ride of the day. We were expecting a wild ride. Like you said. it was short & boring. No real excitement to it.

@WebmasterJackie I think this thread would make more sense on the Theme Parks Attractions forum.
Yup, I think so too. Moving it there now but I first wanted to make sure there wasn't a river rapids attraction of some sort at a theme park other than Disney since I've never been to any of them.

You mean Kali River Rapids? I sort of agree, and sort of don't. Some time ago, the truck at the top used to move and there was fire/smoke which made it more interesting. Sure, it's a short ride, but it serves its' purpose quite well. It's a refreshing cool down on a hot day...if you're one of the ones lucky enough to get wet. It's one of my favorites.

I should add that if they wanted to bring back the special effects and/or make additional improvements to the ride, I wouldn't be opposed. But, save for our most recent trip where the splash seemed to be WAY less than usual, I have no complaints about the ride.

We got stuck on it once for about 20 minutes in the blazing hot summer sun and nobody got wet. :crazy2:
That has skewed the way I feel about it.

.if you're one of the ones lucky enough to get wet
The thing that keeps me from riding it is that I don't want to get wet. I don't mind a little spray here and there but I see so many people coming off totally soaked. I have no desire to spend the rest of the day walking around the park like that. That happened to us at Disneyland but fortunately there we were just a short walk from our hotel and were able to go back and change. That's not so easy at AK.

I thought I read that at one point it was supposed to be a more interesting ride, and for some reason (maybe budget?), it was never quite finished. Does anyone know?

I agree that it could use some improvements!

I have found almost all "rapids" rides at any theme park not very "wild". The most exciting part is wondering who will get soaked.

None of them are worth the long waits they have (since it takes so long to load/unload the boats).

I remember reading that too. It was supposed to be longer and more detailed and it got cut down.

My family actually preferred the family raft ride at Blizzard Beach, which I hadn't expected.

It was supposed to be much bigger and much more a tour than a ride, but it was determined that it disturbed the animals so it was shortened and thrilled-up. All of that deforestation silliness was added after the ride was pulled out of the animal habitats. It's lousy because it was shortened by a lot.

It is probably the lamest of all the river rafting rides I've ever ridden since they became a thing 30 or so years ago (and many far better ones at other parks have long since disappeared).

Special effects won't save a lame rafting ride. It needs to be longer with more rapids and falls. As others noted, Grizzly River Rapids as DCA is a fantastic ride and it doesn't have any special effects. It's just a great, fun ride.

Just down the road from WDW at US is Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges, which is a great one as well...but no one gets off of that dry or even damp...it's designed to soak and soak and soak again.

Special effects won't save a bad rafting ride. It needs to be longer with more rapids and falls. As others noted, Grizzly River Rapids as DCA is a fantastic ride opened nearly at the same time as Kali and it doesn't have any special effects. It's just a great, fun ride.

Does anyone know why they stopped the special effects?
