Last I chekced the reports I would be most interested in staying at - contemporary - grandfloridian - Polynesian... well none of them are on the list of available resorts for the program...right?

you can use your points to stay there - but they generally aren't worth it -

you can generally get a 2-bedroom villa for the same points as a room. believe me a 2-bedroom villa is much, much nicer than a WDW resort room. Or you can get a studio (just about the same amount of rooms) for a whole lot less points.

No at present time there is not a DVC resort on the monrail - however WL is close - so you could try VWL.

rent some points from owner and see how you like it.

Or try the BCV - if you love Epcot or the Studios

but try it first - then you can decide if it is for you or not.

You are correct. The Polynesian, Grand Floridian and the Contemporary are just hotel rooms. DVC is condo based. While you can exchange and stay at the hotels you suggested, it is not a wise choice to join DVC with the sole purpose of staying at these rooms as they are quiet expensive point-wise. You can get a 2BR/2Bath condo at DVC for what you would spend for a "moderate" WDW hotel.

VWL is close to MK, too by boat. BWV and BCV walk to Epcot, boat to MGM. All the resorst you mentioned were on the monorail line. I think BWV and BCV are great locations for ease to the parks, VWL if you are mainly interested in being close to MK. I think a Poly DVc woudl be fab, though. Wish they'd build that one! Good luck.

During value season (staying on points) you could probably get 6 days in a garden view room at the Polynesian or Contemporary for about 180 points (less days for more points at the Grand Floridian). Staying in a studio at the DVC resorts could probably get you 2 or 3 five day stays for about 200 points(Sunday-Thursdays-because the weekends cost more points) depending on where you stay. (You can get more days at OKW than BW, BC or WL because it takes less points to stay at OKW normally). That being said, we stayed for 7 days at the Polynesian on points when we first joined and probably will again some day in the future, but some years I find I like the option of going down and staying at DVC resorts for five days at a time, twice a year rather than only 6-7 days one time at a monorail resort. I was adding it up the other day that I have $235 (which includes principal and dues - $2,820 all year) deducted out of my checking account every month towards DVC (financed for 10 years). If I tried to pay cash for the Polynesian or Contemporary for a 7 night stay I would need appx. $2,300 for rack rate. I guess I could come out a little cheaper in the end of I saved that much every month to pay cash at a monorail resort instead being a DVC member and paying them monthly, but along with the fact that I can use the DVC for 12 nights or more in a studio per year at the DVC resorts is that while rack rates will keep going up through the years, the value of your DVC rates (points wise) will hold steady.

I'm sure this was way more than you wanted to know, but maybe it will help you a little bit. :)

I used to be the biggest Polynesian fan known to mankind. That is, until I stayed in a 2br villa at VWL. Last trip I stayed at both Poly lagoon view concierge, and VWL 2br. I had a good back to back comparison, but the winner was clearly VWL.
That being said, I fully intend to stay at the Poly and AKL in the future using points.

Good luck....

It is true that DVC is not for everyone. Before joining DVC we were stricly a Polynesian/Beach Club family. There are quite a few others on here who seem to also have a rich Polynesian background (if you know what I mean). Now a few years later I really don't care if I ever go back. I get my MK fix at the VWL and my EPCOT/MGM fix and the BWV and BCV.

Try it first, you might like it since you obviously like the Deluxe Resorts.
