of dead soldiers/remotes everywhere ... with the switch over to the digital stuff we have 5 devices in the main area, two DTV boxes, one for the TV and one for the DVD/VCR recorder/player and the Sat. box and our coffee table started looking like a battleground with all the remotes laying everywhere and trying to decide which to use for what we wanted to do.

I just bit the bullet so to speak and ordered and got the Logitech "Harmony One" remote and this thing is the cat's meow so to speak. With a touch screen and flexible programming we are now down to one remote for everything and even the DW can operate it w/o talking to God/Jesus :rotfl:. It ain't cheap ($181.xx from Amazon with S&H :rotfl2:), but I'm/We're I think happy after just a few hours of using it. I also plan to take it with us in the trailer since it can also control the three five items we will have there ... DTV tuner for the VCR, VCR player/recorder, DVD Player and the Vizio TV.

We're still at that stage in life where we probably have three or four remotes lost between couch cushions, brought into another room, lost somewhere.

I've given up on searching for it (hardly ever watch much of my own programs anyway, just what the kids are watching). I just tell them to get busy and find it. They hate it when I keep reminding them that they really did not look "everywhere" because everywhere would include wherever the remote was last left and if they looked "everywhere", we would know where the remote is. I need to give them reasons remember me when they are older, some good, some annoying!

I LOVE my Harmony remote. I got mine off eBay for $85 and change, then bought a Sure Trade warranty for another $6.

When we got our new digital system for Christmas, it was ridiculous all the remotes (TV, DVR Cable Box, Surround, BlueRay, VCR). Love this!!! Plug it into the computer, tell it what you own, and what order you want things turned on in, and instant gratification!!

Hubby even understands the simple commands! "Watch TV, Watch BlueRay, Watch VCR, Listen to Radio"

No worries about batteries either, it gets set on the charger every night!!

I prefer to keep my wife confused, so will keep my 3 remotes, one of which operates two different things, plus I am cheap and won't buy this Harmony thing until it gets down to 50 bucks or less, and you know it will.

That's exactly what happened to us with the switch over to Digital ... we now had 5 remotes and that broke the bank. 3 was fine, but with 3 video inputs to the main TV (Sat, Antenna, DVD/VCR) and two different DTV boxes that was just too many remote switching for our liking and with this one we can program it for the trailer so there we only need one instead of 4 remotes. It's really nice to hit one button on the touch screen and have it turn on what is needed, turn off what isn't, set all the correct inputs and even start the VCR/DVD. Before that would at times require picking up at least 3 remotes and finding and hitting the right buttons to get to where you wanted to be.

I even considered the Harmony 1000/1100 but didn't want a mini laptop that you have to hold in both hands.
