The Rebels are Sizzling in JULY!

Hi Rebels, yet another day of high temps.

Jane – Happy Birthday!!! Also, good luck tomorrow with your dr. appointment. I sure wish I was a “take care of things immediately” kind of person. I am more like a “if I wait, it will go away” kind of person. Turns out, that was not a good plan.

Nikki – Thanks for giving me hope. I know my doctor will help me get this under control, but I am still a little discouraged over this whole thing.

Andrea – Thanks for the pep talk. No, I am doing more under training than over training for this marathon. I figured I will work on making sure that I can finish the race. A 6 ½ hour marathon seems reasonable for me at the moment. I am going to take it easy and do the best I can. I am not going to even try to make up for those 4 weeks of missed training.

AFM – Not feeling so great this week, so maybe a 5 mile walk tonight or Thursday night, and the scheduled 6 mile on Saturday. It is supposed to be 6 on Tuesday, 6 on Thursday, and 6 on Saturday.

BTW, on the 12th of June, I competed in my home town 5k and did very well. My first mile was almost the fastest mile I have walked too date, I missed by 2 seconds with a 12:38. The heat was kind of rough that morning, so my pace started slowing. I finished with a time of 40:46. I was hoping for a 30s finish.

Next race for me is the Abe’s Amble 10k in August. Last Thursday I did 5 miles with an average pace of 13:30. I am thinking that this will be a good pace for the race. All my racing buddies will be there so it should be a lot of fun.

Anyway, enough rambling, have a great day everyone!

Happy Birthday Jane!

James: If I could walk as fast as you I wouldn't have to run. ;)

Andrea: It was just a 6K. :/ I really am off now till Disneyland though. I promise!

Happy happy birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope your breathing issue gets worked out :goodvibes Sounds very frustrating.

This heat is killing me... I went out yesterday to try to do Day 1 of the C25K and managed to do the warmup walk and the first running interval and then I gave up. We had an air quality advisory and since I do this alone, I wasn't willing to risk passing out or getting heat stroke, or whatever.

UGH.

Today was worse and tomorrow doesn't look any better. So irritated, because I WANT to go out and do this, but my better judgment tells me to stay put and keep doing yoga in my ACed apartment! It's supposed to ge better starting Friday. Of course, for me... "better" is a relative term. I'd be quite happy if we had a nice cold spell that dropped us down into the 50s!

Hi Rebels, it is starting to cool down here a little bit. Most of the problem here is, 90 degrees with a heat index of 103. Not even being in the shade helps.

I ended up skipping the 5 mile walk and did some lawn mowing, which seemed like good cross training too me. It was hot, but I hydrated myself pretty well throughout the day and loaded up on some electrolytes before working on the lawn. Plus, I took two puffs off the inhaler. I did make a mistake though. I kind of pushed it a bit too hard to finish quicker and got my breathing in a tizzy. I kind of scared my wife when I entered our house searching for the rescue inhaler. She rushed over with the inhaler and a couple of puffs made it all better. Whew, that was a first for me. I am going to be more careful next time.

I think I am going too try to get my 5 miles in tonight. Being that it is a cutback week, I am going to do a reasonably slow pace and just enjoy putting in the miles.

James: If I could walk as fast as you I wouldn't have to run. ;)

Katie - LOL!!! Maybe my GPS watch is lying too me! :)

Have a great day Rebels!

Jane - How did the doctors appointment go?

James - Congrats on your 5k! And good luck in your "Amble" next month! I'm glad you're training smart and not pushing yourself too hard. Better safe than sorry.

Katie - Enjoy your break! And no sneaking in "only" short races!

LuvCuteBoys - I'm with you on the heat. It's miserable. Have you tried doing walking workouts at home? When I was training for the Princess (and before I bought the treadmill), I sometimes used Leslie Sansone's DVD's. They invlove basically walking in place, with a little kicks, high steps and marching forward and back thrown in. They come in increments, like 2 miles, 3 miles, 5 miles, etc. She usually maintains a 15 pace throughout, though you can go slower if needed. They are fun and came in very handy when I couldn't start walking until late at night, or it was raining outside.

LOL No, I am just a slow and steady kinda runner.

But...but....:guilty:

1.8 miles this morning...was heading for 3, but the sun came up on me and it was already 83 with a feels like of 90 so I just fell to pieces. Should have taken water with me.

James - I'm so glad you are okay and your asthma didn't get too out of hand, but I also hope you learned you have to take it easy! I bet your wife gave you a talking to when the issue passed. I bet it was scary for both of you. Glad you're okay. :flower3:

Gave up this mornings walk in the HEAT and HUMIDITY and am staying after work and putting in miles on the treadmill! Makes a long day at work for me but is SOOO much better than being outside!! Looks like all of us are suffering from this Heat Wave!

Hi everyone!
Just thought I'd join in about the weather! I haven't run since Bob and I did 5 miles on Saturday and today is Thursday! Bob is so good, he has gotten out twice since then. I can't bear the heat & humidity (count me among the inhaler users!) It may as well be January with snow & ice=same result...stuck inside. Record setting high temps all over the East coast. I may have to get over to the blechy gym to do some miles on the dreadmill:rolleyes:
I realized today is the 6 month mark until the Walt Disney World Half Marathon!

Keep it cool!:cool2:

I haven't registered for anything, just felt like using that smilie because I felt sorry for him. :) Nothing till the DL 5K with my mamma.

Katie - This cracked me up.

Thank you everyone for the birthday wishes! It was a great one and the celebration will continue for the next 364 days. :goodvibes

Weather is now mad crazy humid but "cooler". I will take the 100 degrees with less humidity any day. It's one of those days that you're praying for it to rain. Heading out to the doctor in a few minutes.

I'm going to try to get in some mileage tonight. We'll see what happens.

Andrea – I am not sure you can get Katie too slow down. She is definitely the “Jedi Master of the Half Marathon”. Did you see Katie’s half marathon schedule for this fall? All I can say is the force must be strong in her.

Jane – I am glad to hear that you had a great birthday. Again, I hope your doctor visit goes well.

AFM – I signed myself up for the Abe’s Amble 10K today. I thought $18 was pretty reasonable, plus I get a tech shirt out of the deal. I also emailed my order for some WISH RaceReady shirts. I hope to be sporting the shirt at the marathon. In addition, it is a necessity for the Goofy Challenge! And too top that, I need to be thinking about new shoes for the fall mileage.

No, I've never done them... I've seen her videos and just figured it was something to show you how to walk outside! I didn't realize they were meant to be done indoors.

Thanks so much for the advice! Gonna see if I can find one somewhere, because that is a GREAT idea.

Happy Friday!

Went to the Dr yesterday. He said I'm in great health and that my "shortness of breath" is from my muscles tiring in the heat and humidity. No medication, no inhaler. He told me to slow it down in the beginning pay attention to the weather and it's effect on my body. He said if it persists in the winter, that I should come back. I've run in winter and never had this problem, so he might be right, my body just hates heat and humidity.

No run yesterday. 10 miler tomorrow morning in crazy humidity. I'll try to be more attentive to my body.

Have a great weekend Rebels!

Barb - Time to head to the blechy gym! :rotfl: You've only got 6 months...

James - Yes, the force is strong with that one!

That's a great price for the race, and it includes a shirt. :thumbsup2 I just shelled out $130 to enter the Wine & Dine in October. :scared: That hurt!

LuvCuteBoys - Definitely check those videos out. I got most of mine from Amazon.com, but I did get one or two at Target, and I think I saw some at WalMart, too. Let me know what you think.

Jane – Great news! Maybe as you train more, your lungs will do better in the humidity. I am still waiting on the test results, I guess maybe next week I will hear from my doctor. Boy, this week as been rough for me and I have not done much.

AFM – Life got in the way and was not able to get my walk in. I guess I need to start getting up really early in the morning and at least get some kind of mileage in during the week. Tomorrows a slow 10K and I should be able to get that in. Next week is back too it, I get to look forward too 17 miles next weekend, ouch. Do not get me wrong, I truly love the high mileage days.

Have a great weekend Rebels!!!

Jane- Glad to hear you had a good birthday! Great results from the doctor! Hopefully your run today did ok. Maybe it will just take time to get your lungs used the the humidity, or hopefully the humidity will break before that needs to happen!

Barb- I hear you about this weather! I made a change to the TM a few times this week! I'd rather get in time and miles there than do ANYTHING out in the weather we've had!

Katie- You motivate us all!!!

James- The Abe's amble sounds fun!! Nice price with a shirt!!! I too have e-mailed about the order I want to place for the WISH shirts....I haven't heard anything back...do you think I should e-mail again?

AFM- I did 4 miles today! My buddy Margie was sick so this was a solo walk. I have a little ADD when walking and was getting fidgety so I did a little running as well! I was feeling GREAT!! no shin issues and kept good time! Finished in 1h 4 minutes! I did a nice mile cool down. During the cool down the Army recruits were doing a timed 2 mile run, felt a little bad when they finished 2 miles in the time it took me to finish 1....but I reminded myself that it WAS a COOL DOWN not a race!

Can't wait to stick to a good schedule this week! I feel like I'm finally getting things back on schedule!

6 months till the 1/2:scared1::scared1::scared1: SO MANY emotions going through me!

Nikki – I did not get a reply email either. I think we are OK if the email has not been returned undeliverable. I think I am going to change my order and get a trail shirt also. I have been needing more tech shirts and I have my eye on RaceReady stuff for a while.

AFM – The doctor office called me last night and wanted me to come in for more tests. My blood work came back with a problem with my liver. I wasn't expecting that, so I am going there Monday and not wasting anytime. I did ask about the results of my PFT and it looks like I have a lung disease. She was not sure what I have because the report was too technical for her. So, she told me that she will get me on Monday too review everything with the doctor. So, I guess I will find out Monday, sigh.

I hope everyone’s weekend is going well. Go Rebels!!! :woohoo:
