Would a Boston fan mind answering this question for me, "WTH do you name a baseball name after a color and a piece of clothing? Red Sox? White Sox? What's wrong with people? What kind of names are those? Hello, can they not be a little more creative please?"

first off they were the Boston Americans, then the Red Stockings (after the socks that they wore) and then they realised that the stockings wouldn't fit on the front of a newspaper headline 'stockings win'
therefore they changed it to the Sox, shortened version of Stockings
