This is Family #2's first trip to WDW and it is lil'hook's 5th b-day. They told me to just plan the trip and tell them where to be. :)

As luck would have it I had to go to Florida on business the week before our trip. 30 min from WDW. So after work on those 2 days I went to CBR and checked it out. I decided that I wanted Jamaica rather than Martinique for a couple of reasons. It is usually the first bus stop, there is a playground for the kids on the beach, and it is a pretty walk to OPR.

I ate dinner at OPR (fruit and cheese plate 3.99-very good). I rode the bus to MK and also to DD. The busses are running slow. But park attendance was also very low- so you have to take the good with the bad.

I went to World of Disney and shopped at my leisure (how nice with no little hands tugging on my arm). I picked up a few goodies and decided on my 1 big ticket souvenir that I would buy next week on the trip (the Walt and Mickey Partners Statue mounted on a base with a little clock under it $135) I decided last time that I would buy myself one nice souvenir each trip. Last trip it was my Mickey watch.

I had myself a Strawberry Minnie Bar Yum!!! I also rode the Monorail to CR and went up to the California Grill Observation Deck and watched the fireworks. I chatted with another Disney planner who was there with her family and BF's family. We shared tips and I told her about the DIS.

After the fireworks I went back to MK to catch the bus- probably not my brightest moment. It took 45 minutes. But while in line I did stop one major family fued that was brewing. One SIL was furious at the other b/c she did not get them Cindy's ressies. Her DD(4) was going to be upset. I gave them my long sob story about my own failed attempts 60-Days-Out and suggested they try Akersaus in Norway, but not to be upset about CRT b/c it is soooo hard to get. This seemed to pacify SIL#1.

All in all I met lots of nice people during my pre-trip and made lots of little kids smile talking about what they had done that day. I offered tips when I thought I could be helpful. I told Grumpy when I returned that I felt like a WDW ambassador of good cheer.

What a wonderful way to get ready for the trip!!!

I am the mod and chat host and I find my hubby doing the advising and going on and on about disney....he got three of the designers and engineers at his work to go go go....and they all did.....thanks for your check out service

We all do good when we can pass on information about WDW to someone - thanks for posting!

Hi Cindy! I like reading your pre-trip and day 1 trip report. You're pretty funny. Good choice on the flying too! I've taken Amtrak plenty of times from Mass to NJ. That's a short trip and not too fun. :( I can't even imagine what 22 hrs would be like and I don't want to!! I see that you chose Jamaica over Martinique. I'd like to to stay at Jamaica also. I was thinking of building 43 or 44, 1st floor, corner room (hopefully). Do you remember if those were good locations to the quiet pool? My son's 14 so I let him go alone sometimes, but I like to be able to see him; just in case. How were your rooms? I've also read that the villages have been renovated in the last year too. Were you pleased with the results? I've seen pics on line and they look nice. :) I'll be faxing over my room request on Wednesday since we'll be there this Sunday! Wow, that's fun to type :Pinkbounc
Can't wait to read your day 2 Cindy!
Thank you,
Kim :earsgirl:

Kim-

We really like Jamaica. We were in Bldg 44 Room 4117 (Corner Room) and it was great. Pretty close to the pool, but not too close.

Do you need to be eating dinner at the California Grill to use their observation deck to watch the fireworks? I contemplated attempting reservations for dinner there but am not sure the kids would enjoy it.

cpl100-

I never technically asked anyone if we had to eat at the restaurant in order to use the deck. We got off the elevators and walked to the left. You just follow that wall around and down a small ramp to the observation deck. There were lots of people doing the same thing and no CM said anything about it. I would suggest you arrive about 20-30 minutes before the fireworks start to get an unobstructed view.

Have fun!

Thank you Cindy. I am Cindy also and today when I called the Disney dining reservations, I spoke to a woman whose daughter was Cindy. Maybe I should play the lottery or something today.

Enjoying your report so far! I'm looking forward to reading the rest!

Re: the observation deck question, I'm not sure what the official answer is, but my friend Nate's theory is "Just walk like you know where you're supposed to be here" ;)
