The Pursuit of Disney Magic (June 7-14, 2008) ~ UPDATED 9/30 pg. 191

Fantastic photos! I like the aztec and viking ones especially. And yeah for seeing Charles - out of the benadryl coma!! I LOVE the Mexico counter service -- better than inside, in my book. Although as I've said many a time, the food is secondary to the margaritas. ;) Birds have always scared me - don't really know why- so not excited to learn they may join me at lunch.

I love update days!!! :yay:

connor is too cute with his viking love!! I love the picture of him with the troll, so cute! Your daughter has my sense of humor when it comes to animals lol! I'm sure my dad cracked a joke like that once or twice to me, and I can even see the look she shot you! :) Waiting patiently for more!

Another great update. Chelsea is so pretty... you will be in trouble with the boys soon Jackie! Glad you all had some fun in the World Showcase!

Great update. I do have to agree, I think that Connor my be channeling Elmer Fudd in that picture:rotfl: Of course Conner is adorable!!
Can't wait to see how you like Chef Mickeys. We have never been there for dinner.

Melissa

I love all the World Showcase pictures. They are too cute. We didn't spend enough time in WS when we went. It was too hot. Anyway cant wait to read more!

Connor looks like a lot of fun to take to a place like Disney! And I love how much effort both kids take in choosing they souvenirs!

Does anyone know other places in Disney to get a Churro? I'll need one on my next visit.....or 2...or 3.......

I got one at the booth right across from Tusker House at AK. I'm sure there are plenty of other places too!:goodvibes

great update and pics.

ok won't eat there if there are birds around. Biff is deathly afraid of them

I'll say. Orlando to Mexico. Quite the trip. Might've been faster to swim. I hope Border Patrol didn't give you any problems.

That's funny that you said that because the whole time I was like, "I feel like I am walking to the real Mexico!!!"

Consider yourself lucky. One stood ON my table. And he was giving me the eye, practically DARING me to shoo him away!

They were pushy little things!

I think this is my favorite.

Mine too! :goodvibes

another great update Jackie! I agree the one of Connor with his weapons is priceless! I am soo mad at myself for not being able to do WS!! looking forward to more...

Thank you! Was Monday the only day you made it to Epcot?

Great update! Looks like you had a great time in the World Showcase, I like how you just hit a few countries then left. We did them all in one day, and boy were we tired!

Charles, in the past, has hated WS -- partly because we would do FW and then go the entire circuit around the countries. This year I carefully planned how to do it so we could break it up in manageable segments. No complaints from him this year! :thumbsup2

Love the viking shots!!!! too cute!!!

Thank you! Connor "becomes" whatever he is playing at any given moment -- he really gets into his various roles!

Hey a picture of Charles snuck in there. Is there one of you anytime soon? I love the troll picture and yes Connor is channeling his inner Elmer Fudd.:lmao:

I think I come out from behind the camera briefly on Day Four. ;)

That pic of Connor always makes me break into song from that WB cartoon where Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny are Vikings! :lmao:

Is it wrong that all I can think about right now is a nice cold slushy margarita?

Nah, I have been dreaming of Tangierine Daiquiris since we returned.

And my favorite night from my last trip when I ate here...

I think next time I want to eat there in the evening...

Okay, I love it when kids bust out with stuff like this. These are those moments in life that you'll always remember, not because it was profound, but because it was so dang funny!

So true!

Alright, I'm with your girl Chelsea. I love shopping in China. All of China. I think we do it at least twice every trip. And I do love the jewelry section. I have many...ahem...purchases from that jewelry section. Also, pardon the hijack, but the painting that hangs in our living room I bought there on our first trip with DS. He was but a baby, and I talked DH into spending the money on this gorgeous painting even though I wasn't working and we had to take money out of our savings to do it. But I still love it, even now, and it's still in our living room. Moral of the story...if you see something you like, buy it.:goodvibes

Chelsea is like a little bird -- always drawn to the shiny, glittery stuff!

That's my mom's philosophy, too!

Alright, I've never been a fan of the dinner offerings at Chef Mickey's, which is why we always do breakfast there, but I am intrigued by the Oreo BonBon. It sounds delish!

Sadly, I have no clear memory of the rest of the food at Chef Mickey's but I sure remember those Oreo BonBons!

Jackie!

I love your TR!

I was so excited to get on my computer today because I knew that you would have started your TR. And it is AWESOME!

That's so crazy about Charles being in a near coma for the first day of the trip. You handled that very well. I would have force fed Gordon and Red Bull and kicked him in the booty!

Your kids are gorgeous.

I love how big you're smiling in the pic with Darth Vader!

Your Boma dinner sounded delicious. It's so hard to resist all that great food.

Can't wait for more!

Yeay! Julie is back from Greece! :goodvibes

Thanks for all the compliments!

I don't think that Red Bull would have even done the trick -- Charles just had to sleep it all off.

There's lots more to come! :thumbsup2

Lovely update!! The kids pictures are just way too adorable. :goodvibes

Thank you! I think they are, too, but I am, of course, VERY biased! :lmao:

First set of replies are on the other page! Why does that always happen to me???

You have an adorable little viking there! hehe

Thank you! He's a hoot!

Great update!

There were birds everywhere when we were at Cantina de San Angel, too. This guy at the table next to us kept feeding them nachos, so you know they were flocked all around us! We saw a one-legged bird and one with food stains on it's side - it made me sad! :worried:

I have never heard of the Mickey Mouse Oreo BonBon, but it sounds delicious! I hope you have a picture! :goodvibes

Thank you!

That would have made me sad, too. I told my mom I must have some sort of radar that hurt birds hone in on -- one of my most vivid memories of going to Paris when I was ten was this one-legged bird at the Eiffel Tower! It really disturbed me, so, despite my flippancy, I knew how bothered Chelsea was at the Cantina.

Love the viking photos, Connor looks as though he was really getting into the role :rotfl:

He does! Now, if only he could make money from it when he is older...:lmao:

Jackie--great installment again!! Love the Viking pictures! When Megan gets older, I SO can't wait to take a little more time going through WS. Right now, everything is pretty much lost on her except the rides!! Oh well, something else to look forward to in the future!!! After seeing the smile on Charles' face--I am pretty sure he is really a Disney nut in disguise! He just doesn't want to let on!!!

Thank you! As she gets older, Megan will definitely enjoy World Showcase more -- this is the first trip where we spent a lot of time enjoying everything in WS (we did more of it on Friday).

Charles is a Disney nut in disguise -- wait until you hear some of the stories from the rest of the week! :thumbsup2

I love that conner embraced his inner viking!:rotfl2:
There is something about those viking hats that attracts everyone!

I was surprised that even Chelsea agreed to put one on -- but then it was her Daddy that asked her -- she'll do anything he says! ;)

Connor looks like a lot of fun to take to a place like Disney! And I love how much effort both kids take in choosing they souvenirs!

Does anyone know other places in Disney to get a Churro? I'll need one on my next visit.....or 2...or 3.......

He is a lot of fun to take to Disney because he just embraces everything and is game for any silly picture his mom suggests.

Yes, churros are delicious and much neater to eat than the funnel cakes!

Ummmm LOVE the update. We truly enjoyed EPCOT more than any park on our last trip and spent many days in WS.

BTW-what book are you reading that you cannot keep your head up for???? I am looking for a good read.

Lori

Thank you! Epcot and Animal Kingdom were our favorites on this trip!

I was reading The Tomb of Zeus by Barbara Cleverly (I just finished it last night). It was soooo good. It was set in 1928 in Crete. The main character was an archaeologist and there was a murder mystery and some romantic suspense. I couldn't put it down -- even had to go check out the other books by the author.

:yay:

Thank you! Mexico's counter service has always been one of our favorites -- I don't remember the birds from before though -- this trip they were everywhere. Well-behaved and begging politely though. :lmao:

connor is too cute with his viking love!! I love the picture of him with the troll, so cute! Your daughter has my sense of humor when it comes to animals lol! I'm sure my dad cracked a joke like that once or twice to me, and I can even see the look she shot you! :) Waiting patiently for more!

Thank you! Everytime I look at the picture of Connor with the troll I crack up!
Yes, I got the look from Chelsea, that's for sure!

Lovely update! The viking pictures are hilarious, and it's great to see Charles out of the benny coma. :goodvibes

Yes, I have proof that Charles really was awake for the remainder of the trip!

Another great update. Chelsea is so pretty... you will be in trouble with the boys soon Jackie! Glad you all had some fun in the World Showcase!

Thank you! Luckily, Chelsea is still oblivious to boys that aren't the Jonas Brothers or Zach Effron. Hopefully, it stays that way for a litle longer! ;) However, I fear that our days are numbered since she starts middle school on August 7th!

Great update. I do have to agree, I think that Connor my be channeling Elmer Fudd in that picture:rotfl: Of course Conner is adorable!!
Can't wait to see how you like Chef Mickeys. We have never been there for dinner.

Melissa

Thank you! I think it is the height and the ears that remind me of ol' Elmer! :rotfl2:

I love all the World Showcase pictures. They are too cute. We didn't spend enough time in WS when we went. It was too hot. Anyway cant wait to read more!

-Becca-

It was hot, but breaking it down into two days helped immensely!

I got one at the booth right across from Tusker House at AK. I'm sure there are plenty of other places too!:goodvibes

Oh, I will have to remember that for next time!

great update and pics.

ok won't eat there if there are birds around. Biff is deathly afraid of them

Oh, that's too bad!!! The food there is sooo good! Maybe, you could take it and find somewhere that doesn't have any birds to eat it.

Upon returning to the hotel room, we had exactly enough time to drop all of our stuff off (no Viking axes at dinner, please), get the autograph books, enjoy the coolness for a few minutes, and head off to catch the bus to the Magic Kingdom.

At the Magic Kingdom we transferred to the monorail, and we were on our way to the Contemporary for dinner at Chef Mickey's.

We got there a little early, so I took the opportunity to photograph the Mary Blair mural. I love Mary Blair! Did you know she did a lot of the concept art for Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan? Not to mention, she designed It's a Small World!

The line to check in to Chef Mickey's was enormous!!! I started panicking because it was soooo long! Luckily, it ended up moving pretty fast. I guess it was so long because Chef Mickey's had just opened.

Chelsea and Connor wait for our beeper to light up. You can see Chelsea's new necklace and earrings from China:

We were seated in a small room to the left of the buffets -- it was quiet, but it was hard to judge how far away the characters were from where we sat.

I have come to the conclusion that I am not a big fan of the harried feeling that accompanies character meals. Trying to judge when to get food as not to miss any of the characters, trying to get autograph books ready -- it just doesn't make for a relaxing meal.

The food was good -- I don't really remember what I ate. I think there was some shrimp, salad, salmon, potatoes...I do remember the dessert though! There was a sundae bar with a gazillion toppings and these Mickey head things (complete with chocolate ears) that sit on an oreo. Those were my favorite!

The characters were a lot of fun! The kids enjoyed seeing them -- Chelsea especially loved meeting Minnie. She's a big Minnie fan, and we've never had the chance to meet her.

Here are a lot of photos from Chef Mickey's. You can see some of the food at the bottom of the pictures. :goodvibes

Chelsea had chocolate ice cream on her face, but was quick to wipe it off when I whipped out the camera:

After dinner everyone was pretty wiped out, so there were no takers on heading back to Epcot for Illuminations. My family is just not good at night. We headed back to the resort for some downtime. I was okay with having an early night, since we had an 8:00 ADR the next day. I felt that today had been pretty productive in comparision to Sunday.

:goodvibes I like Chelsea necklaces and earrings. Connor's face while Minnie is signing the autograph book is funny.

Yeah for Chef Mickeys! Thanks for the pictures...I was checking out the highchair in the background. We're going our second night....it will be DS's first encounter with characters.

Whaddya mean you have no food porn? I see evidence, at least, of well-enjoyed meals: mostly empty plates!

And of course, Chelsea's drink (at least I'm assuming it's hers) is in the foreground of the picture of her wiping the chocolate off her face.

All right, so maybe it's not what people normally drool over, but I think it's an endorsement for Chef Mickey's nonetheless. :goodvibes

Ok. You just have the cutest kids.
And I love Chelsea's jewelry. Very pretty color on her!

If you haven't read this already, I think you'd enjoy it:

I own it and I remember there being some info on Mary Blair in there. The book itself is huge, hardcover and heavy, but I LOVE IT.

What great photos, I abandoned the family the night they went to Chef Mickeys, I went to Kona to meet up with some DISers (photo below) so haven't a clue what it was like :rotfl2:

Great update! I love Chef Mickey's but I always feel like a nap afterwards! It is so loud!!!

Oooo...Space Mountain...how you mock me!

Have I ever told you the story of TK and Space Mountain? I don't want to hijack, but it's kind of funny.

I'm feeling very nostalgic and like I want to be at Disney RIGHT NOW!:goodvibes

The line to check in to Chef Mickey's was enormous!!!
You know, I think the line there always seems crazy, but it moves pretty quick.

You can see Chelsea's new necklace and earrings from China:

009_16.jpg

I love the new bling!:thumbsup2

We were seated in a small room to the left of the buffets -- it was quiet, but it was hard to judge how far away the characters were from where we sat.
I'm one of those dorky people who actually likes those quiet rooms. We usually end up in one of them because of our larger party size. My favorite is where you can look at and see the MK off in the distance.

Chelsea had chocolate ice cream on her face, but was quick to wipe it off when I whipped out the camera:

020_5.jpg

I think that's just an adorable picture of her. Be sure to whip that one out for her future husband, k?

Aww, did your inner park commando feel lots better?::yes::
