The Pursuit of Disney Magic (June 7-14, 2008) ~ UPDATED 9/30 pg. 191

I'm all caught up!!! I am loving your tr!!! I'm getting more and more excited about going to Disney as I read your updates.

And lucky you! You got to Disney a day early!

When are you planning on returning to the World?

First of all.... so stupid for me to ask how long the beautiful face painting lasted... I should have realized the day and put 2 n 2 together!

Secondly I would have been hysterical at waiting forever and a day at Yak and Yeti.. I feel so bad for you all for having to wait, wet cold and hungry.

Earl of Sandwich for breakfast... I will remember that. We love it for sandwiches and salads too!

I have not been in Basin... next trip for sure. We get ornaments every trip too.... I love to see them and remember the trips!

Cannot wait to hear about Kona...

Still not sure how we missed you pooling that day. We were there after lunch!

Relaxing days are so much fun! Earl of Sandwich is on my list for a dinner on my next trip and I keep hearing so much about Kona I think I may need to squeeze that in. I take it you didn't have any trouble getting a reservation? Looking forward to hearing what you thought of it!

What a great day! Earl of Sandwich is definitely on our December list! Loved all the pics of POFQ. Chuck says definitely we be there next summer (unless we fall in love with CBR in December.;) )

great update and pics.

never tried Earl but I will put it on the list.

A quick tip about Earl of Sandwich. In my experience if the line looks long don't worry...it moves really quick.

Earl of Sandwich is awesome! The pool look likes a lot of fun. Good for you for realizing a relaxing day was what you needed and not pushing on to MK just because it was on the itinerary.:thumbsup2

We're hitting up Downtown Disney our first afternoon! I will definitely find Basin.

I feel so little for asking, but what do they sell at Basin?

Love the update! Looks like you had a great day chilling out!! That is definitely something we need to do more of next trip!!! We really need to go back------NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Missing it so badly!

I feel so little for asking, but what do they sell at Basin?

Bath and Beauty products. Mainly soaps and bath fizzies and salts. I love to buy the "hand" made soaps that they sell by weight. They have tons of different scents and designs. Basin is located closer to the parking lot side so that's why you may have missed it.

I am super excited to hear your review of Kona Cafe. That is one of the ADR's I am most looking forward too!!

Another great update. I love the titles of your chapters. I can't wait to get our Christmas ornament (s) when we go. I love Christmas. We bought one in Bermuda.

As far as Connor eating on the rug, it builds his immune system. :lmao: Plus he was using a paper towel. :thumbsup2

You will enjoy eating at Kona! Thanks -- I have a lot of fun coming up with my chapter titles!

:rotfl: about building up Connor's immune system!

Yes, you definitely need to eat lunch at Earl of Sandwich sometime! The sandwiches are great. :thumbsup2

I also love the pic of Connor waving as he goes down the slide. Very cute!

And regarding him eating on the rug, LL is right--builds his immune system! I've heard that kids allowed to play in the dirt get sick less often than those whose parents insist on keeping them "clean." You'll have a very healthy son. :lmao:

Thanks! I had heard that about dirt and immune systems -- I always use that as my excuse to not clean the house more often!

And of course, since I'm jonesing for a stay at POFQ, I'm living vicariously through your photos!

I took a bunch more pictures of POFQ on Friday -- these were just the tip of the iceberg!

Love a "relax" day! I wish we could have one this trip, but it is too short! I think hitting Downtown Disney in the morning would be awesome......we always go at night and it is usually packed!!

Looking at your pictures of POFQ brings back memories from our first trip. We had a blast there, and the boys still say the slide was the best part of the trip (they were 4 and 3 at the time!).

Can't wait to hear about the rest of your evening!

Going first thing in the morning to Downtown Disney was great -- we found a parking space on the first row, and it was never crowded -- from now on we are doing DtD in the morning!

We love POFQ, but ready to try something different next time!

You are a better woman than I. LOL

Oh, but internally I had to keep reminding myself that it was my family's vacation also and that they should have some say in what we did!

I can't wait to hear about Kona!!!

I will tell you that it was yummy!

So, did you LOVE POFQ????
I stayed at POR and wasn't crazy over it at all. I accidently got off at POFQ after the half marathon(wayyyyyy back in 2003) b/c I was butt tired from being up all night. Someone noticed I had just done the half marathon(umm, was it the gargantuous Donald bling about my neck? or the silver blanket with the Mickey marathon emblem???or possibly, the tired look on my face???) and said, "hey, just run to POR!!!". ha.

Anyway, I did walk into the lobby and thought it was so much prettier than POR. I didn't like POR b/c I got lost and never could find my room b/c it all looks alike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The food was good though.

Lori

We did love POFQ! I love New Orleans, so while not quite the same thing, it was neat theming! I was not a big fan of POR when we stayed there in 2004 -- lovely grounds and all, but just too big.

I would love to run the half marathon some day!

sounds like a relaxing day. I hope we have one of those. Can't wait to hear about Kona and Wishes and Spectro. I love the POFQ pics. We got married in the New Orleans French Quarter, so it sorta brings it home to me. I hope we get to stop by there on our trip. Love the swimming pics too!

Thanks! It was nice to relax for a little bit with no plan. I was definitely ready to do something by the afternoon, though!

I miss POFQ...def making that the place to stay next time. Love the slide! Great pics!

It was so quiet and peaceful -- that's the thing I love best about POFQ!

Nice morning, good update!

Thank you!

Earl of Sandwich sounds delicious. I haven't eaten there, but i'm going to put it on the list.

Do you get an ornament on each of your trips?

The silhouettes are a great idea. I am sure the grandmothers will LOVE those as gifts!

It sounds like you had such a nice, relaxing beginning of the day. I hope we can manage to do that at least once on our trip!

I was so impressed with breakfast -- their lunch sandwiches must be amazing! The prices were very reasonable, too!

Yes, I try to get ornaments from all the neat places we visit. It's fun to look back and remember when we are decorating the tree.

The grandmothers did like their silhouettes -- we got one, too, so I can take a picture of it later on.

Taking it slow for the most of the day did allow everyone to make it to the end of the night! Thank goodness!

Hey Jackie-
Glad you found Basin, it's one of my favorite stores. I'm another DISer looking forward to your review of Kona for dinner. I keep going back and forth with that one because of DS. And I'm happy to hear that breakfast at EOS is good....that's on our plans too.

Kona's dinner did not disappoint! Thanks for the tip about Basin -- I loved it!

I don't know about Basin, can you please elaborate? As for relaxing at Disney, gosh, we just don't know how to do that! I'm hoping to take a deep breath and remember we have just been there and are going back in March so this time with DH we can just sit back and chill out.........:hippie: Did I just say chill out about going to Orlando in July??? :rotfl:

:rotfl: Slowing down at Disney is one of the hardest things for me to do -- I would just go, go, go if it were up to me!

Basin is filled with all sorts of neat bath stuff -- fizzies, salts, soaps sold by weight. I fell in love with the soaps.

Longtime lurker, but had to post about the pictures for the grandmothers! It's the first time I heard about someone doing that, such a cool gift idea! You guys sound like you have a good time together!!!:cool1:

Thanks -- they really liked them. I want to say for the two of them together (and 3 copies of it) it was like $20 -- very reasonable! For just one of them (again three copies) it was like $13. They also have places to do it at Epcot and Magic Kingdom that we noticed.

We did enjoy just hanging out together.

Awesome morning!! Sometimes those days off turn out to be some of the greatest moments of a trip!

That's so true!!! :goodvibes

I'm all caught up!!! I am loving your tr!!! I'm getting more and more excited about going to Disney as I read your updates.

And lucky you! You got to Disney a day early!

When are you planning on returning to the World?

I'm glad that I am adding to your excitement! We did get to go a day early -- that was fabulous!

No concrete plans on the books yet -- definitely next June, but I don't know if I can last a year in between!

Oh, don't feel stupid -- it's hard to keep track of what day is which on TRs a month and a half later. :goodvibes

I was pretty much hysterical!

Yes, Earl of Sandwich for breakfast is very yummy -- they also have muffins -- Chelsea had one along with her breakfast sandwich and said it was very good!

I love it at Christmas when we unpack our vacation ornaments!

Ugghh, I so wish we had run into each other!

Relaxing days are so much fun! Earl of Sandwich is on my list for a dinner on my next trip and I keep hearing so much about Kona I think I may need to squeeze that in. I take it you didn't have any trouble getting a reservation? Looking forward to hearing what you thought of it!

We had no trouble at all -- I called first thing that morning and they had several openings for dinner to choose from -- it's one of those hidden gems!

What a great day! Earl of Sandwich is definitely on our December list! Loved all the pics of POFQ. Chuck says definitely we be there next summer (unless we fall in love with CBR in December.;) )

Thanks! I can't wait to see pics and hear about CBR! That's my back-up plan if we can't swing Animal Kingdom Lodge!

great update and pics.

never tried Earl but I will put it on the list.

Thanks! You would really like Earl of Sandwich!

A quick tip about Earl of Sandwich. In my experience if the line looks long don't worry...it moves really quick.

I'll have to remember that the next time -- I am still upset that I didn't insist on waiting back in April!

Earl of Sandwich is awesome! The pool look likes a lot of fun. Good for you for realizing a relaxing day was what you needed and not pushing on to MK just because it was on the itinerary.:thumbsup2

I wanted to -- it was my husband that was the smart one (for a change). We had fun at the pool and shopping!

We're hitting up Downtown Disney our first afternoon! I will definitely find Basin.

You need to -- it's a definite stop on my list from now on!

It was like an upscale Bath and Body Works. The soaps were my favorite.

I'm missing it so badly right now, too! So, when are you thinking you will be returning?

That's a perfect description. I felt like I had hit the jackpot when I found the soaps with the Mickey heads in them that were the Tahitian Vanilla scent. I want to go back in October just to get the pumpkin and gingerbread scents.

Sounds like a wonderfully relaxing start to the day! Love the POFQ pool pics, what a nice and peaceful resort that is! My kids just loved that slide too. Up and down, over and over again!

Can't wait for your Kona review! It is the ADR I am most looking forward to next trip!

It was very relaxing. I lost count the number of times that Chelsea and Connor went on that slide!

You will really enjoy eating at Kona, I think!

I know what you mean! We're planning my nephew's first birthday trip and our August trip has not started. I think I definitely have a disorder.
Are you going to try a new resort?

And so sorry a storm hindered your experience at Yak & Yeti. We went in January for lunch and the service was great. But I guess when a restaurant is flooded with people looking to get out of the rain, you can only hope for the best!

Chelsea and Connor's face painting was beautiful! Does it hold up in the heat? I think T would love it, but I don't want it melting off of his face in the hot August sun.

I have my heart set on Animal Kingdom Lodge for the next trip -- if that doesn't work out we are thinking of CBR.

That's why I am willing to try it again -- I think it would have been more enjoyable if it hadn't been packed.

Thanks! It held up really, really well in the heat -- no melting or smudging prior to the storm!

I'm so glad to have found your report. It took me two days, but I read through the whole thing. I especially loved your PTR. Your level of planning and organization gives me something to aspire to. I can't wait to hear if you actually made it to Spectro & Wishes. You have a beautiful family.

Charles, in turn, said that he wasn't too keen on hitting a park first thing in the morning and then staying really late. Could we take it easy during the majority of the day and head over around dinner? Okay, I was pretty sure I could live with that since I was starting to really feel all the walking we had done as well.

Then we headed to Downtown Disney for breakfast at Earl of Sandwich and shopping.

If the lunch and dinner offerings are half as good at Earl of Sandwich as their breakfast stuff, we are so eating there next time! I had a breakfast BLT, Charles and the kids had bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, and there was real coffee. I was in heaven! The atmosphere was relaxing and cozy, and it was a great way to start our morning.

After breakfast we went to Goofy's Candy Company and stocked up on snacks for later in the day, and Disney's Days of Christmas for a Mickey Santa for my MIL (she collects Santas) and our ornament to mark the trip.

We got back to POFQ around noon and took the kids to the pool.

By this time, I was over the relaxing and ready to hit the road for dinner and the Magic Kingdom.

Rest is crucial, because you do walk more than you realize. And that all important pool time for the kids is necessary for the good of the whole group. We let Brooklynn have pool time every day, and it wore her out for a good nap. After the nap, she was ready to face the evening in a good mood.

We've eaten at Earl many times, but we've never had a breakfast sandwich there. Love that bread!

It's fun to go into Goofy's Candy Company, but hard to choose what to get. Many, many choices - and everyone back home always likes to get Goofy treats as a 'souvenir'.

AKL looks amazing! So does CBR. I hope you get a great deal for AKL.

That's great that it held up. That is some powerful face paint!

just got caught up on your TR again.. love the updates! I should have also predicated the "outcome" of the face painting b/c of THAT day!! haha...

Sorry to hear about Y&Y, I would have been fuming too, .. we ended up skipping our ADR but sortof wished we would have tried it, I wasn't to impressed with the CS tho.

Can't wait to hear about your Kona dinner, that was one of our favorites too :)
