It makes no sense why they would take it away or change it. They just released merch celebrating it and people like it. A fresh coat of the same purple - done.
My understanding is that they want to enhance the purple wall, not get rid of it. They were going to put some kind of blending pattern at the edges or something, I'm not really sure. I know though that they recognize that it is a popular spot.

Having a colored background is a popular thing with younger people and the purple wall grew in popularity because of this. There is also the moss wall in Pandora and the bubble gum wall in Epcot.
