The Problem Is Too Much Pooh

I thought I had heard Kenny the Pirate report that Merida from Brave was replacing Pooh in the Animation building at HS. They also said that she will be Pixars' first "face" character.
That move makes the most sense, since they have been featuring their latest releases in that spot.

I think there is too much DUFFY. Who is that bear, anyway?:confused3 :surfweb:

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2Suprised no one has metioned that yet seriously disney I can get a stuffed bear at Build a bear for the same price

I agree. It's the same characters over and over and over and over. I have four boys. They don't really care about Pooh (and friends). We don't care about the fairy and princess overload either. And, we don't do many character meals because it's the same characters at every meal.

When DS#1 was three and doing and autograph book for the first time, we filled one full book and part of a second. This last trip when DS#3 had his first autograph book (being ASD he took a little longer to have any interest), we have about 10 autographs because it was the same characters over and over. On the flip side, we didn't spend a lot of time in character lines. But, of course, that also lessened our interest in PhotoPass.

Hmmm.... Fewer character selection equals less sales of autograph books and photopass photos/cds/products. It also means less $$$ from character meals. Gee Disney, you'd be paying the same amount to have the characters and getting more money in return. Seems like it could be a win-win. And shorter ride lines for those not interested in characters!

I would like more disney classic characters and less Pooh as well.

And I would love a character meal geared more for boys! Lets see a pirate meal, or star wars, villians or heck - even toy story. At the top of our wish list is a pirate meal.

Pooh is about as classic a Disney character as you can get. They probably have him out a lot now due to his recent movie.

I agree though that a villians meal would be great. However, we have all been saying that for years. I wonder if Disney is too afraid they will end up with a bunch of screaming, crying children, to do it. After all, you see all the complaints posted here when someone doesn't like a character's tone of voice. Multiply that by a billion and that would be the complaints after a mean Disney character behaved in character and wasn't all nicey-nice to someone's child.

That could be part of it. At the Mike and Sully character meet, a CM was telling me a lot of kids are scared of them. Villains might be even worse.

Not enough pooh can be a problem too.:guilty:

I agree on more diversity though- especially in character meals! It blows my mind there is no toy story one! I have toddlers and a baby and I don't even bother with the playhouse Disney meal. We would love a toy story one - and we have all princess loving pooh hugging girls, can't imagine how boy families would love a new meal!

I could be wrong on this but there was a villans meal a few years ago I want to say at one of the MK resorts, maybe GF, or even the dolphin?

A villain meal would be great. They could serve roast Pooh bear with some fava beans and a nice chianti.......FFFFFFFF!

That was at 1900 PF before the Cinderella dinner. The word on the street is that it spooked too many little kids. I guess families with older kids also had little kids and it kept them away. I'm REALLY sorry I never got to experience it. I would LOVE a villains meal.

At DLR, they do a breakfast at their closest equivilant to Crystal Palace (Plaza Inn). Only instead of having a set selection of characters, they rotate a variety through there. It's a surprise and you don't know going in who will be there. I would love for them to mix it up a bit at WDW and give this a go.

I don't see why anyone would expect a Villan to be nice. When they are in the parks they aren't nice and shouldn't be. I'm someone who apparently you are talking about because I got a jerky snow white and then my friend gotthe same one at Christmas so I just posted a thread here recently. But it was only after I knew a second person had the same experience with the same snow
and thought that was wrong because she apparently is that way often.

I don't think they got rid of the villains meal due to people complaining they were mean- I'd heard it just didn't get booked enough. One can assume because there are too many families with little ones who would be scared.

Princesses should be nice villains should be mean- they're characters they sho Uld stay IN character.

I hear ya.. none of my kids are REALLY into pooh.. toy story meal would be awesome!! All my kids love toy story.. jesse for the girls, woody and buzz for the boys.. it would be great!

We're the opposite. We found it nice knowing at WDW what meal to go to to see what characters. We find that the DLR method of having one or two set characters and the rest being who they round up didn't really work for us. We ended up with Pluto in the Lobby @ 3 different character meals and duplicated characters far too often. About the only one totally set was the princess meal.

I'd love to see Huey, Dewey and Louie in character meal. Or a Villains dinner. My favorite character is not even around to do M&G's anymore!

Poor Pooh, the silly ole bear!! I still love you!!! I also like seeing you.

I don't think there is too much of any character. But I don't really look at the characters at the meet and greets and wouldn't know which characters are out more than others.

There is WAY TOO MUCH DUFFY.

That's right, I can't stand Winnie the Pooh. But let me explain. My family and I love meeting characters at WDW. Every character greeting holds something new and time we get to spend with Disney characters is time well spent.

But seriously, enough Pooh already.:headache:

He's EVERYWHERE! On our last trip we saw his fat behind at Crystal Palace, the England pavilion, 1900 Park Fare, the Hollywood Studios hat, the HS Animation building, and Main St USA. We were there for only 4 days.

Why can't there be some different characters out there? I mean, Pooh took over where Lotso was last year, and he's all alone. No Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Kanga, etc, just Pooh. What a great group photo that would be with all of the Hundred Acre wood characters together! But no, we get more Pooh.

I get it - he's popular. But Disney needs to get creative in the character area. When was the last time anyone saw Huey Dewey and Louie? Does anyone remember who they even are? Any recent sightings of Kuzco and Kronk? Character freaks would go nuts just to see some of the classic Disney characters circulating again. Get the Beauty and the Beast crew off stage and put them in front of the hat once in a while, do something different.

Usually too much Pooh will send you to the doctor's office, but at WDW it seems OK.
From a totally emotional point of view, you're right. Sure -- bring H/D/L out to meet and greet! Bring out Kuzco and Kronk!

But from a practical POV, you have to think about how that could happen. The reason H/D/L are not out in any of the domestic parks -- the only place you can see them is Japan -- is because Disney simply can't keep those characters cast. Think about it ... think about how short Donald is and how short the person inside the costume needs to be. Then remember that H/D/L need to be shorter than that. That's tough to cast initially, and nearly impossible for daily M&Gs.

Kuzco and Kronk are much the same, from a casting standpoint, but there's also a huge costuming cost. Those characters had a couple of sets of costumes built for the parade and when the film came out. If K&K were to begin doing daily meet & greets, a stockpile of costumes for both would need to be built, and that's pricey for two characters who just simply don't demand the kind of lines that Pooh does. Overexposed or not, there's always a line to see Winnie the Pooh.

Getting the B&B crew off the stage and in front of the hat is problematic as well ... you can already meet Belle & Beast in France, and since none of the other characters (Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, Chip) are able to sign autographs, it's a bit awkward to have them meeting and greeting. Sure, photo ops are nice, but all of those costumes are built for a couple of shows a day in a fairly controlled, shaded environment. Put them out under the sun and into the humidity and rain, and you're once again talking about a large expense to build the number of costumes required to service a M&G.

Lots of other more rare characters are the same. You have to think about the logistics, training, building / maintaining of costumes, storage, etc. when you demand other Characters.

I know it seems as though Disney just has warehouses full of Character costumes, gathering dust and waiting to be used, but they don't. They don't build costumes unless Character popularity warrants it, and they only maintain those costumes used regularly. Those "rare" characters you spot at MNSSHP or during a Character-palooza may be wearing the only servicable costume for that Character that exists.

Not sure who you mean by "classic Disney Characters", but all the heavy-hitters are there. Some of the older characters never had walk-around costumes to start with, and others (Bambi, Lady & Tramp, Dumbo, etc) just don't work in a M&G setting.

:earsboy:

Awww I love Pooh, but I would like to see more variety. Villains would be great, and more Pirates (hint hint more JACK).

I kinda know what you mean, lol. My DD (7) loves Pooh. Or a least she really did when we went in 2010. We seriously were at every character meet n' greet at each of the parks. She loved meeting him and it was fun since it was our first visit. But for our upcoming trip in May we may have to limit the number of times we line up for him. And I think she'll be ok with it. We did meet Eeyore at AK, and Piglet at DHS, both times with Pooh. This time she and DS want to meet the Jake and the Neverland Pirates characters. Now that would be fun to watch!

I've always thought there was too much Pooh but I like him better than I like Duffy, and he's in more places than Pooh.
