I LOVED this movie, and I had never heard of it until I was checking on new DVD releases. The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio is based on a true story about a mother/wife, (Julianne Moore), who helps to support her husband and ten children by entering and winning "jingle contests". The movie takes place from the mid 1950's to the mid 1960's.
Woody Harrelson plays her alcoholic husband. Knowing that the movie is based on a true story makes it that much more fascinating. It is true to life, funny, but also hard to watch at times, (the husband's anger gets out of hand frequently). The best part comes at the end, (and I'm not really giving anything away here that would spoil the movie), when the movie shows some scenes using the actual family members that the story is based on. Really good movie, but not one for younger kids.
We also watched Good Night and Good Luck this weekend. I really liked it, but my husband felt it was a little slow moving. Not enough violence or things being blown up!
I just picked up Capote yesterday and can't wait to watch it. My daughter read, In Cold Blood, for school earlier this year and I reread it, so she wants to watch Capote, also.
Has anyone else seen any of these movies?
