I just watched a story on Fox with a man pushing a grocery cart full of baby diapers, formula and baby food and giving it to people.

Some Positive news is that our local shelters in Baton Rouge area have been given so much, that they don't have the need for more items right now. At least very few items. However, we will continue to give as time goes on and send on items that can be used elsewhere.

The outpouring of time, talent and gifts is extraordinary. Thanks to all those neighboring and other states who have given so generously also.

I'm so proud to be a Louisianian and a US citizen.

I also think it is very positive that so many different cities are offering to take in these evacuees. Carnival is sending 3 cruise ships to house people for 6 months. Several different airlines are assisting in delivering supplies and flying the evacuees out.

Our local news just showed a minister who had taken over 30 people into his home.

I was buying shorts for my son at a Once Upon A Child store, and a woman asked me if I knew what size shoe a 2 year old might wear. It turns out - she had some family and friends from Louisiana who called and asked if they could stay with her. She said yes - then they called back and said, "can we bring this family with us - they have nowhere else to go". These were total strangers that her friends had encountered during their own escape from the city. So this woman said "yes" to that too. And now she has a dozen people coming to stay with her!

I know that power and running water has been restored in some parts of coastal Mississippi and many power trucks are constantly working in the counties to get it up and running. This will not only help those whose homes that were salvagable but for the many shelters, also. My parents got it yesterday, and I could already tell how much it helped.
