You know, re this whole pop-socket discussion, our good friends on the podcast we all listen to are always super negative when it comes to the new head honcho at DVC, Bill Diercksen. Believe me, I don’t know the guy, but with the recent Aulani incentives, the reasonable price of VGF2 giving us the opportunity to finally add on direct points there, the announcement of Poly2, the return of Moonlight Magic, seems to me that there’s a lot of fun stuff coming out of DVC these days. Not sure what there is to complain about.
I’m sure we can all think of things, but I have enough backpacks and at this point would rather have a pop-socket.
And I wouldn’t discount more surprises coming our way. My guess is that we’ll see additional blue card benefits. If course we all want the annual pass back, but I don‘t think that decision will come from DVC. Also, building a tower like Poly2 associated with another resort is a lot cheaper than building an entirely new resort like Reflections, new association or not. Down the line, when we least expect it, we’ll see something like Poly2 happen at the Yacht or Beach Club.
Let's not forget about the poorly performing website (just one oh "shucks" erases a thousand attaboys and the website is a HUGE oh shucks), or the missing APs (which may not be something DVC can control, but is still a huge thorn in many of our sides).

As I mentioned in my post, I think the decision to stop selling APs came from a higher corporate level than DVC, as will the decision to resume selling them if it ever happens.

Re the website, I never borrow points, I usually just bank them, so I’ve never experienced issues in that regard, or anything like that whole VGC mess from a few months ago. So for me it hasn’t been that bad, but that’s still no excuse for not fixing it. And the multi hour wait to get anyone from member services on the phone is monumentally frustrating and inexcusable, and should have been fixed a long time ago. But I have found that at least the chat function works pretty well.

Anyway, I’m not saying everything is perfect, but I am saying that DVC has been showing a good deal more signs of life in the last 6 months than I think any of us ever expected, and I’m excited about it. And I would bet that we’ll be seeing more blue card benefits in addition to the much welcome return of Moonlight Magic.

I am a lowly resell member and didn’t even get a backpack. Hopefully backpacks will be an option when we finally buy some direct points. Then I can be a part of the cool kids club too 😂.

I actually saw somebody wearing the backpack at Magic Kingdom on my last trip. Looked like a million bucks (maybe literally).

Someone was selling the DVC backpack for $20 CAD on Facebook marketplace near me. I passed. Lol.

I keep hearing complaints about the website. What's so wrong with it? My only complaint is that it logs me out after a few minutes of inactivity, but otherwise it works fine for what I want it to do--book reservations. One time it was down and I got the dwarfs, but that's only happened once. We've done several trips already all booked fine through the site.

There are a lot of times people have issues. The biggest one right now is that some owners accounts will not let them borrow points online. It seems to impact resale contracts more than direct contacts, but both types have issues.

The dwarves are a big one that show up. You go to modify and no idea why it shuts it down. I have been fortunate as well to not have run into any of these issues, but we are almost two years into this borrowing issue...it started happening after they put in the restriction to 50%...and its just frustrating that it has not been fixed at this point

So are they really not giving the backpacks anymore?

I don’t think we know for sure yet. There are still people who have gotten them but it could be they are sending until they run out and then will change over.

I spread out payments on my new purchase and don’t make final payment until June 1st so no idea what I will get! Lol

For those voting it will be a different association, do you suggest I not purchase 300 points via resale right now? Now, I am worried.
I was kicking the tires on a Poly resale before this was announced. I even had a contract picked out. Now I am holding off. Way too many unknowns to spend that kind of money, IMO.

Current Poly resale owner - I was about to buy VGF2 points and canceled when they annnounced Poly 2. I'm on the fence about how they will handle as a new or combined association. I work in Condo/HOA banking and DVD has until they declare the property to decide on this. It's possible they don't know yet (which I doubt), but they don't communicate anything without extreme care, so even if the plan was simply to make us wonder, they've certainly achieved that LOL. If the original association had a better mixture of units, I'd bet all my money that they'd treat this as its own association and perhaps have resale restrictions, BUT the only thing that holds me back from that bet is the fact that the Bungalows are a huge points hog and they sit empty all the time. If they combined this as one large property it could ease that a bit, but again, maybe they don't care? Either way, resale restrictions or not, I"m in when they go on sale. Already opened up a seperate account to start saving money.

The only piece is that those bungalow points may not be eligible to be redistributed across the entire resort. Some believe that shifts, even for the point charts, has to remain unit neutral….I personally am still on the fence on that Issue.

So, even if made the same, they may or may not be able to deal with the bungalows..other than giving more owners home resort advantage. But, not sure why new owners would be more apt to want them then the current ones does.

That is a really interesting point and question.

Given that a point translates to a fractional percentage of ownership in a specific unit, I wouldn't think that the "ownership" percentage reflected in the points could be transferred from one declared unit to another. If my understanding of that is accurate, then I wouldn't think that DVC could reduce the number of points associated with a bungalow and redistribute those points to another type of unit as it changes the underlying "ownership". It makes sense that the required points for room use can change within the calendar year because that is neutral to the overall number of "ownership" points by unit.

But maybe I am all wrong in this thinking? It's early and I've only had one cup of coffee. :-)

Most PVB owners bought enough points to stay in Studio units, and the leap from that to a Bungalow -- basically 7x more expensive -- is too steep to ever be feasible. The average points per owner is just too low.

If you add a lot of owners who bought points with 2BR point charts in mind, it becomes much more feasible. When a Bungalow is only 2.4x more expensive, some families will trade 3 days in the 2BR for 1 day in the Bungalow, or will skip a year at WDW and splurge on a Bungalow instead.

It's still a reach, but increasing the pool of point-rich owners would be an improvement.

That makes sense. Yeah, for someone buying for a larger unit, the sete
up isn't the same. Good thought!
