The police are coming......

....... to check out the evidence of a 5am visitor around our house today.

DD woke me up at 5:15, saying that she was worried about her car in the driveway. She had heard somebody drive in and then saw them drive out, about 10 minutes later. In the daylight, we see new shoeprints in the snow, leading up to our back deck. Nothing is gone; nothing is amiss. Somebody was on our property at 5am!

Yikes!

The case against the "alledged" criminal that victimized our DD in 2001 is coming to a head. He either accepts a plea bargain by 3/10/03 or it goes to trial. We have a protective order in place. It may not be him, but the police are coming to document this incident. However it is, they left shoeprints that are very, very large. Maybe a 12 or 13 size. DH wears a size 8.

I am surprisingly calm. OUr house is always locked up tight and we have done all that we can do to protect us. The police will increase patrols, too.

***sigh*** I guess I'll not be getting much sleep for a while!

Well, the footprints are from the electric company meter-reader. I called and they were here the day before. An over-reaction on my part........

That still does not explain the car in the driveway. We wondered if someone needed to turn around but even that doesn't make sense. Our driveway has DD's car, a basketball goal, a skateboard ramp, and a horse trailer (all nealy lined up along the side; not looking like a red-neck's place!). Our 3 neighbor's homes have uncluttered driveways and would have been better choices for a turn-around. With all the snow, we have not seen any other tracks around the place.

Either someone was specifically looking for us or they were interested in DD's car. I guess it could have been someone who was innocently lost and is now a criminal in my mind!!!!!

I told DD to wake me up immediately if anything happens again. Nothing happened tonight (that we can tell).

Actually, this was good timing for such an incident. We are in the process of filling out "Victim's Impact Statement"s on how the "incident" has affected our lives. Life has been going well and time has taken the angst out of our daily lives. This has been a jolt of reality that brought back some memories & feelings. Being "on alert" again has reminded me of how the stress changed us all.
