Hey gang. Whats been you expereince with something like this...? We are planning two trips: one to SSR(home) and one to HHI. If we cant get into HHI, then we will probably pad our SSR trip with some extra nights.

My SSR window opens first. Should I

1) book the trip as planned and add on later if we dont get HHI

or 2) book the longer trip aand lop off a few nights once we know we can get into HHI?

IM tempted to do the second, but im wondering how the booking will go, since we wont have enough points to do a long SSR and HHI. If Ive used up points on the SSR ressie, can the CM find the room at HHI and hold it long enough to change the other ressie and free up points? Or will she have to borrow from the next year and then bank the old ones? IF its going to be a big hassle, then we'll just go with option 1.

Make any sense?

Option #2 should work fine. It isn't uncommon for owners to book their Home resort at 11 months, as a fall-back ressie, and then try to change their trip to another resort at 7 months. The circumstances are a bit different than what you describe, but the concept is the same.

As long as it doesn' mean having to borrow points needlessly, I'd say go with option 2. Then if you have enough points, book the extra days at HH day by day then near the end, cancel your SSR stay. If you don't have enough points to hold both until the end, you'll need to make a choice. If you're looking at HH in summer, you may have great difficulty. If it's not summer, you should be able to book it all at once at the 7 month window of the checkout day.
