The Plaza--no more ADRs

Just saw an article on facebook that they are going to try walk ups only at The Plaza in the Magic Kingdom. I wonder why, as it apparently didn't go over so well at The Skippers Canteen.

So what happens if you already have an ADR at The Plaza? WIll it be honored or is it kaput?

I'm seeing reports that The Plaza is no longer taking Advanced Dining Reservations effective immediately.

While existing ADRs will remain intact, the restaurant will now only be taking walk-in guests or those with pre-existing ADRs that were booked in advance.

I'm sure Walt Disney World gets lots of complaints about no day-of restaurant availability at Magic Kingdom and I wonder if they're testing this location like they did with Skipper Canteen?

What do you guys think?

Just as well, I guess-- we waited over 40 minutes on our lunch ADR June 7th. Almost gave up when the buzzer went off. Didn't feel like we had a reservation at all.

Maybe they're trying to appease the "wing it" crowd who want to have walk-up TS options when in the parks? I can see how maybe The Plaza, which isn't as popular or new as some of the others might be a good one to try to go the walk-up only route.
Hope it works!

I think it is pretty small to try and handle walk ups. But yeah, maybe they can make a few guests happy that forgot to make ADRs.

Personally I love The Plaza and will miss having a nice burger and sundae. I prefer to have all of my dinner ADRs made in advance so I know I will be able to get a table. There is no way I'll leave an opening so I might be able to eat at The Plaza.

Wow, one restaurant that doesn't accept reservations... and everyone loses their minds! I say hallelujah and there needs to be more like this. In fact, why don't we just go back to the way it was when no restaurants took reservations, and I didn't have to plan what I was going to eat half a year ahead of time.

I can't even begin to tell you how upset I was when B&C started allowing ADR's and now its next to impossible for me to get in there. Case in point we have been going to B&C after the last 3 Space Coast Marathon's (Sunday after Thanksgiving) and I just checked... FIVE MONTHS OUT, and there is no availability at all. Chances are I will be able to get a ressie between now and then, but seriously?!

Because I'd rather not waste time when I'm at the parks trying to find someplace to eat when I decide I'm hungry, and hope and pray someplace I like will be able to seat me fairly quickly?

Supposedly they are taking walk ups only starting in July. Except for that one hour between Noon and 1 pm.

Nobody has "lost their mind" here. Hyperbole personified.
Folks are just discussing the change and wondering why,

I do find it odd that they just went in the opposite direction at Skippers. Make up your mind disney :P But for a family like mine that doesn't "forget" to make ADRs and simply prefers to be more spontaneous this should hopefully work out well

I like it! I think it's good to have options. I don't mind making my ADRs 180 days out, because I love planning, but I know some people like to be more flexible. I think it would be great if Disney had more restaurants where you could walk up without an ADR.

So will you actually have to walk to the Plaza or will you be able to do it with the app on the day of. I feel like I'm stepping back in time. When we first started going to WDW you actually had to go to city hall and make reservations when getting into the parks. I remember sending my fastest runner to get in line for a reservation at Diamond revue. It was not fun. AT epcot there were kiosk that you had to go to to make your dining reservation. I found the whole thing stressful. Heck, make your dining reservations and cancel them if you're not using them....at least 24 hrs in advance.....I do this every trip. And to choose one of the smallest places....do it with Crystal Palace, or set aside a percentage for walkins. MK at least has some of the better quick service places to eat, so it's all good.

I really hope that this isn't going to be happening with more restaurants. Mostly because with our set of food allergies we have to plan ahead, make ADRs, and spend time talking to chefs to make sure they can provide a safe meal for our kids. Although, even if they didn't have allergies I don't want to take the chance of an hour long wait for a meal as we used to years ago in Disney. It sucked when we were just two adults, but with three kiddos it would be so much worse.
