The Packing District

We will arrive in Anaheim around 1230/1 and I thought about going to the packing district to waste time until we can check in. Do they have shopping there or is it just restaurants? Is it easy to find parking in the early afternoon on a weekday? Is the Fran bus easy & reliable?

Bonus question - which brewery would you hit if you didn't like IPA's? Villians, Unsung or Monkish? I was leaning toward Villians because we could have lunch too. I don't think either of the other two have food.

My husband said Villains before I even got to your part about the food.

There is kind of a little shopping but it’s mostly food. There were some craft stands and stuff last time I was there, not really many “stores.” I’ve had mixed luck with parking and don’t know what that bus is. Good luck!

It's almost all food, just a few craft like tables. We went on 4th of July and we found parking easy.

All the breweries make decent beer. Villains is good and the food is grub plus it’s a large space. It used to be Modern Times and has/had a pool at one point. It’s next door to the packing district which has some great food too.

Save room for dessert...the pick your Gelato bar favor then choice of dips and toppings stand is one on my faves!

I did see the pool in photographs, which I thought was odd. Do they actually allow swimming?

Modern Times Leisuretown was a 33,000-square-foot craft brewery that was completed in 2020. The brewery was designed to incorporate historic buildings, repurposed containers, and outdoor features:

• Historic buildings: A Craftsman home, a 1940s-era grocery store, and a former auto shop
• Repurposed containers: Six containers on two levels for dining and food service
• Outdoor features: A 45-foot swimming pool, garden spaces, and outdoor seating
  

The brewery was designed to take advantage of Southern California's mild climate and promote social distancing. It was also part of a city-wide program called FRAN (Free Rides Around the Neighborhood) to encourage people to drink responsibly.

I believe the craftsman home is now its own speakeasy style bar. I’ve been meaning to go back and visit since the last time I was there we only had time for food and a drink prior to a concert at the house of blues. It’s a great space and I like that it’s been turned into a few different things now. Also, I’m not typically a hard seltzer person but Villains has some unique and tasty options. The smash burger is excellent as well. Oh, and there is a Disneyland influencer who works there, he goes by Beastly Appetite. Good dude.

I’m going to talk to my mom about lunch at Villians on our arrival day. I was originally think Earls in Downtown Disney but not paying $10 to park to eat lunch. We will be visiting DTD after dinner that evening.

When I visit breweries, something I always do while traveling, I will get a flight so I can try several different beers.
