We were there last year from s/30-Columbus day. It wasn't all that hot that week. They had a snap Tropical Storm develop about 50 miles off the coast. Really wierd for one to just develop so close from nothing but it did. but it went up North instead of smacking us. But it kept temperatures down and the skys a bit overcast most of the week. It rained a couple days, but other than that it didn't. The Sunday of Columbus weekend was a scorcher. I understand the next week was too.
The Crowds weren't all that bad that first week until about Friday of Columbus Day Weekend. Then they picked up considerably.
There's always the risk of a Hurricane though. You takes your chances.

) but the last two years I have gone in Sept., I found it to be very nice weather wise. In fact, I just asked my bf for his opinion and he said it wasn't hot and humid at all for our trip last year. We had lots of sunshine and only 1 hour of rain during our whole trip. My hair didn't even get frizzy.
If you really want to take advantage of free dining, I say book a trip. If it does get too humid, you can plan a lot of time either in the pool or in the water parks.
