Hi there!
Some of you who frequent the trip report boards probably already know me, but for those of you that dont, Im Katt! Ive been to Disney approx ten times in the past two years, and have loved every last second of every trip, and truly hope that one day Ill be able to work for them and be on the other side of the pixie dust!

Photo0197FourBySix.jpg

And WELCOME to my first EVER dining review! Ive been thinking about doing one for a while now, as we all love some Disney food, and I did the DDP (not quick service) last Sept, but then just waited too long with too many TRs going on at once and just didnt really get into it fully. Who knows, maybe if you all like this dining report, Ill go back and do Sept?!

Anyway, enough babbling, lets get on with the show, shall we? As I said, Im Katt, Ill be your guide through this nomming adventure where we tried new restaurants, had some old favourites, and discovered that you could in fact, be food drunk! This trip consisted of a birthday/Christmas surprise present for my best friend Paige:

We are two peas in a pod, she is the Tinkerbell to my Periwinkle, the Tiana to my Lottie, and the Piglet to my Winnie! I love travelling to Disney with her because she truly gets it, she gets the magic, the imagination, and even the food pictures! Its always an adventure with the two of us!

We travelled February 24 to March 2/2013, and stayed at Pop Century Resort, a nice, just long enough trip to get everything we needed to do in! We were not on any kind of dining plan, but did have plans for some delicious food, and some ADRs were made to get some variety! I also had SOMEHOW managed to get some for places I didnt think wed get to try.

Now that you know all the details, here are some links!!

So lets get going, shall we??

Paige and I embarked on our Disney trip BRIGHT and early on Sunday Feb 24, and had a brief stopover in Denver, where we proceeded to search the airport for some lunch! We had made the plan that on this trip we were going to do our best to eat healthy without depriving ourselves, so we were on the search for a little breakfast café when we instead came across the GLORIOUS

WOLFGANG PUCK EXPRESS!!

See, this is why that’s included in here, there’s one in DTD that serves pretty much the same food, and it’s amazing, I love it, so why not share it here? They had multiple lines going, one for salads, one for pizzas, and one for breakfast pizzas. I opted for my favorite, and classic; Four Cheese Pesto Pizza:

3_zpsb4dff629.jpg

And I *think* Paige got the curried chicken salad, it came with apples, lettuce mix, avocado, and toasted pecans. I say think because I don’t have a picture of it, and it sounds the most appealing to me, and I know I was a little torn between the pizza and the salad she chose.

Service was nice and quick and we headed down to our gate to eat, and we ended up sharing a bunch of the meal, I mean, I didn’t want to end up eating the entire pizza myself! The salad was great, super tasty and nice and fresh, I know Paige ended up not eating all of it, but it was still good. Salad’s one of those things that can get old after a while, am I right?!

The pizza, well, anyone that has had it before knows that it’s amazing, I absolutely love it, the pesto and the basil give it that little kick that makes it awesome. The crust isn’t super thick, but isn’t insanely crunchy. I usually don’t like thin crust, but this pizza is just perfect! If you’re ever at WPE in DTD, I HIGHLY recommend the pizza to you!

With our meals eaten, it was time to board, we would officially be eating in Disney World next!!

Sorry for the lack of pictures in this update, I’ll do my best to get more in the next few!

Paige and I had arrived with time to spare, and get into one of the parks on our first night, and because of the Dapper Day festivities, and, there being one park that truly signifies “Disney World” we bussed on over to the Magic Kingdom to begin our adventure! We didn’t want to eat something too big as we had an ADR in a couple of hours, but needed something to curb our appetites! Since Paige had yet to see any of the New Fantasyland, a location was determined; we would grab a snack over at Gaston’s Tavern!

32_zps61c635a8.jpg

We both ordered LeFou’s Brew in souviener Belle cups, and got a little thing of hummus and chips to share! I asked for the brew to be put into the little throw away plastic cup, and then into the Belle cup, to keep the cup clean, not sticky, and as to not mess up my bag when I was done. The poor CM I ordered from was so confused about it, but thankfully it got resolved with some help from a friend.

Paige and I went around the corner to have a seat while we ate to take in the surroundings, and let me tell you, Gaston certainly does use antlers in ALL of his decorating!

36_zpsf87c28b7.jpg

39_zpsd9e111b6.jpg

This is all in the bigger eating area off to the right hand side, there’s even a bigger table in the corner area of the tavern with a giant antler chandelier over it!

37_zps599bd5ff.jpg

Then there’s also the smaller dining area off to the left of the ordering counter that we didn’t go in. Paige and I both loved the “brew” it was like a frozen apple juice drink, but the marshmallow and pineapple [I think?] foam/flavoring really give it a nice super sweet and awesome taste.

The chips and hummus were actually really good, your standard hummus, and the crackers were little pretzel chip type things, super yummy! We decided we would definitely have to come back here again. Sometimes the ordering area does get a little clustered, as people are coming in, going, ordering, and leaving all in the same like, five feet of the door, and it’s kinda a gong show during the busier times, but tonight was fine. Service was always super quick, and we usually found there were places to sit, most people were just looking around or grabbing the brew!

Score: 4/5 We would definitely return for what we ordered, and I’m happy they have the cinnamon buns here, but I do wish they had something protein wise aside from the shank, but that’s just me haha! Also the messy getting in and out situation is a little much sometimes, but it’s still awesome!

Hummus and Chips: $4.39
Brew in a souvenir cup/stein: $9.99 (or $4.49 without the goblet!)

Definitely worth it! I use that cup pretty much every day as a water cup at home, a nice souvenir to bring home as it has practical uses, am I right?

38_zpsc36db2b9.jpg

Satisfied, we left for a bit of MK fun before hopping on the monorail to get to dinner!

Following along! I wish I had a friend to just go off on a trip with who "gets" Disney like I do! How lucky you are :goodvibes

Glad to see you're all here!! Sorry its taken so long to get another update, i promise its coming!!

Alright, so for this update, I’m pretty much going to copy and paste from the TR update, and then add in a couple of extra details here and there, and of course the scoring at the end! Paige and I arrived over at the Grand Floridian and slowly made our way to check in as we took it all in.

Once we checked in, we were waiting for around five minutes, which made me super happy, I know sometimes the wait for 1900 can be a pain in the butt for dinner, but our reservation was near the end of the night so I guess we lucked out! The cast member took us in and sat us a little table for two right beside one of the merry go round horses, which was when Paige and I looked at each other and were all “we sat exactly here last time!” WEIRD! We sat and were asked if we had been there before, which of course we had, so the CM took off and left us to start checking things out. I noticed that the Fairy Godmother was out roving around, and there were a couple of characters missing, mainly, the Stepsisters. We thought maybe they were off for a break, as Charming had just also disappeared into the back, who knew?! Since it was break time for the royals, we figured, what better time for us but TIME FOR DISNEY NOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMSSSS!!!

Words cannot express how excited I was for some Disney food.

49_zps4503f72a.jpg

Paige’s plate: starting at the bottom center and going clockwise; she’s got some chicken marsala and rice thing, mashed potatoes, watermelon, pasta salad, I see some meat hiding under there, spinach salad and some veggies.

dde6b4a6-75f9-4742-8001-7506c47427bc_zps46d0421c.jpg

My plate: starting at the top and going clockwise; we’ve got some spinach salad, and some edamame salad, some beef/potato stew type stuff, chicken marsala, watermelon and tomato salad, mashed rice, ham with horseradish, and of course, some mashed potatoes right on top.

Seriously, Disney buffets people, I can’t control myself, there’s SO MUCH FOOD! I usually end up with a huge plate of everything like the one above, and then eat like, a quarter of it. Lol.

The potatoes were super buttery and creamy and just absolutely delicious, along with the chicken marsala thing, it was SUPER DELICIOUS! The rice was a winner, as was all the various types of salads that we had between the two of us. The only thing that wasn’t a winner was the ham, it was spiced nicely, but was a little dry. I mentioned applesauce would be nice, Paige that she had seen some, but it was just some other variant of horseradish up there. I’m now thinking there might have been some around the kid section…derp. I was super super happy that everything food wise worked out this time around. I did 1900 for breakfast and dinner in the past, and it was amazing, then last trip with Paige we did breakfast and it sucked, so I was hesitant about going back tonight, but so far we were off to a great start!

While we were eating, the characters started to come back out! Yay! Prince Charming was the first, and he came out super “Hello everyone, pay attention to me, yes, fantastic” like, and actually said “Ah yes, you can applaud, thank you, thank you” and it was just super awesome! I was really happy to see a Prince with some actual attitude, baha! A little bit after, Cinderella came out, and I was REALLY excited to see that Cinderella actually has a really good friend that I follow on tumblr! EEK! I also talked to Paige a bit for just the past week a picture was posted while she was hanging out with Snow, and people on tumblr just attacked it saying “they should really put some make up on her neck/chest, her face looks so photoshopped, this looks so bad, she’s not pretty” and on and on kinda thing. People don’t think before they speak sometimes, and forget that these friends of characters likely have tumblr, or will at least see what you’re saying about them! They’re real people too, and have feelings, and it really just sucks the amount of hate that people get on social networking sites. Ugh. A bit after she came out into the room, some regal music came on and Cinderella and her Prince took the time to dance together!

54_zps0dfceaf7.jpg

56_zps83df8209.jpg

A very dapper event, and I’ll admit, it’s a lot more fitting than having the little parade walk around thing they do at other character meals, I accept. The couple also takes some time to dance with the kids in the area, which is super adorable!

57_zpsda3db02f.jpg

Because of where we were sitting, we would end up being one of the last tables for the characters to visit, but it was nice to really have the time to get all the food we could eat, and actually have time to eat it! I also took a quick run out to the bathroom before anyone came around, and please, if you ever eat here, remember to take a bathroom trip, they’re so pretty! I know, I know, bathrooms, who knew!? But…seriously…I grabbed a little mini plate of desserts, a mini carrot cake, and some gummi bears! Paige and I were doing our best to eat relatively healthy on this trip, so I don’t think she ended up going up but had some gummi’s off my plate.

THEN, it was time for some characters!

59_zpsb19fc777.jpg

Charming was pretty quick, but was pretty charming. He asked where we were from, and we replied Canada to which he said “I may have conquered that kingdom before!” Yay, a fan of Canada, haha! We took some pictures and he was off to the next table. We had a bit of a wait for Cindy after this, (and I was fangirling pretty hard, she was absolutely gorgeous, as Paige said “unfairly beautiful, lol” I don’t think I’ve ever been that excited for Cinderella). During that time the photopass cast member with all the pictures was coming around, but since we didn’t actually take the picture, he stopped to just chat with us. His name was Aaron, he asked why we were so smiley, and we said that it was cause we were in Disney of course! It was our first night and we were excited! He asked what our plans were for the next day and when we told him DHS he asked if we were excited for Rock n Rollercoaster, and we had to explain that we hadn’t actually been on it, but might be attempting it tomorrow and he told us that it was an awesome ride.

He then said goodbye and moved on to the next table with their picture while we continued to laugh and smile at pretty much everything, one of those moments where just everything is amazing and awesome and you cant’ stop laughing even though nothing’s funny...well…it may have been the Disney magic, but I’m also it was the FOOD! This was the moment that I turned to Paige and went “Pretty sure I’m food drunk right now…” and thus it became a thing of the trip…

Pretty sure I am food drunk right now! #disneyfood #19000parkfaire

Lady Tremaine came around to hang out with us for a bit next, and she was seriously hilariously amazing!! She came right up to us and started chatting, saying that we both looked very dapper that evening, and asking us if we “wanted the gossip?!” Well of course we did, so she told us that “Charming’s been looking for a new jousting partner, but you didn’t hear it from me!” Well of course not! She asked if we were sisters, and we told her we were best friends, and she liked that. My level of food drunk at this point made me tangle up my words a little bit, and she said “there’s mystery about this one. Look, she even has numbers on her hand, what’s that all about?” I told her it was our room number so we wouldn’t forget it when we got home, and she gave us a look, and then moved on her way as she said goodbye. We were both really impressed with her, and loved the fact that she commented on our Dapper Day attire! YAY!

Cinderella came over to us next, and was also a quick chatter with us, but amazing, she asked where we were from and said that it was a long carriage ride, we of course agreed, having gotten down there that day, and then we took pictures!

A completely perfect princess! #cinderella

With only a tiny bit of waiting, our last character of the evening came around, the Fairy Godmother!

64_zpsc58392c1.jpg

65_zps9f1accb4.jpg

She was amazing too! She commented on the lovely jewels that we had on, such lovely ladies too, and told us that more princesses should try looking so dapper as that was the proper way to get a prince! Fairy Godmother was seriously perfect, I’m pretty sure that Paige was about to cry when she walked away (then again…if Paige is crying, it’s a regular day in Disney….same goes for me…we cry…things get emotional…LAWL)

With all our characters done for the meal, we had asked for our bill earlier, and I think at this point I paid visa and Paige just gave me cash as they hadn’t separated the bill and that’s just easier. We had talked about going back to MK for some of the EMH, but were just too tired, full, and food drunk at this point, so back to Pop it was!

Scoring: 4/5
I know, I know, the same score? BUT, this is one of those meals that you kinda book for the charcters, and it sucked that the Step Sisters weren’t there, but EVERYTHING else was perfect. Aside from the meat being a little on the dry side, everything was great, quality and quantity. I do also wish the service had been a little on the better side, but that’s okay!

Would we book again? Yes!

Cost: $40.00 approx. We both drank water, but obviously we also tipped. I definitely didn’t keep any receipts, but it was worth the money!

The next day Paige and I headed off to rope drop over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we usually ate breakfast in the room this trip, it really just saves money and time. Paige had a bunch of granola bars from home, and I had bought some stuff in the food court, yogurt, bars, uncrustables, the usual breakfast faire. It was enough to get us through the morning and get us going in the morning without spending over ten dollars in the food court, not to mention, that extra half hour!

Today we stopped for a delicious snack at one of my most favorite places, and one of the only places I really like eating in DHS; Starring Rolls!

I have been tempted by the goodies in here forever, and finally about a year and a half ago, gave in and HAD to try that Red Velvet Cheesecake cupcake, and boy, I am GLAD I DID!

87_zps2b43d028.jpg

88_zps3d5a5543.jpg

There were so many goodies in there that we wanted to eat, and I don’t like how small and cramped it is in there, but I got my cupcake and got out, and we headed down the street to the Beauty and the Beast theater to eat it!

BUT FIRST, some Starring Rolls comments: it really is too small, it’s one of the only breakfast places, and is popular. The way the line up works is confusing too, some people are only there grabbing cupcakes, ie; me, and I want to be quick. Some people are stopping at the first goodies on the left, and then waiting to pay in the curved around line, when they could just be going to the til. It irritates me, but hey, it’s confusing in there!

Cupcake comments: DEAR MOTHER OF GOD. If you can eat gluten and dairy, and you have not tried this cupcake, and I DO NOT KNOW WHY! It is beyond amazing, the cake is so light and fluffy and absolutely delicious while the cream cheese/cheesecake icing part of it is super rich and just to die for. I’ll also give you a little tidbit on eating cupcakes of this size: rip off the bottom of the cupcake, put it ontop of the icing half of the cupcake, and SMUSH it all together. It kinda makes a little whoopee pie of the whole thing and makes it much easier to eat! There were some ladies in the theater beside us that even commented on this saying it was smart! It really helps the icing to cake ratio friends!

Score:3/5
I give it this score simply because the space is FAR too cramped, and the place itself closes way to early in the day. If you want your cupcakes, gotta get it early, I think it closes before 4pm, sometime around there. Probably a good thing or my entire intake for the day would be cupcakes, BUT, still, it should be open later.

Cost:$3.99, or 1 snack credit on the DDP

Would We Return?: Heck yes!

I’m going to include a little “second” update of our lunch at Beaches and Cream so that you guys can get to see the BEAUTY that is Beach/Yacht Club, and get the whole experience!!

Finally, we had made our way out of Disney’s Hollywood Studios (I know, you thought we’d never make it, didn’t you?!) I told Paige that the easiest way to get to lunch would to be to either walk or take the boat, and since the walk was a pretty decent one, she opted for the boat. I gave her the choice as she really doesn’t like boats, but said she’d be okay for this one.

We spent the time on the trip over taking pictures and just sitting and relaxing, it’s really pretty going from DHS on the boats, I mean, practically everything is pretty at Disney! Lawl.

It was nice to get off our feet for a bit and just see parts of Disney that we hadn’t really seen before, and Paige said that the boat ride wasn’t that bad and she’d be okay on the way back.

202_zps1fcc9a3b.jpg

203_zpse37f8fab.jpg

I saw the “sunken” ship and was all “that’s really awesome” and THEN noticed that it was part of the pool, and was like “THAT IS TOTALLY WICKED!”

204_zpsc885d850.jpg

The Yacht/Beach Club really is beautiful, like these pictures don’t do it justice! It’s so pretty, we also noticed what we thought must be a wedding set up on the beach! Wouldn’t that we cool!

205_zps287cd4e8.jpg

Then we were pulling into the dock and were off the boat, the lighthouse they have is super cool too, and I was instantly in awe of everything, it’s so classy!

We followed the pathway up towards what looked like the main building, and found a map to direct us to lunch! It was over to the right of where we were, so we started over that way beside the big pool that looked wicked!

210_zps720535ad.jpg

211_zpsb9d4ac8a.jpg

212_zpsbe8ade33.jpg

I wasn’t sure how far along our destination was, so I decided to pop inside just to check it out, not the right place, but the interior is just as pretty!

213_zps9b199fd0.jpg

I’m pretty sure it was around this point that we had the conversation about resorts that we preferred. Since Paige had seen the inside of AKL, and the Grand Flo earlier this trip/last trip, when we stayed at AoA, and I’ve stayed all over the place. Paige said she likes the looks of the nice resorts, but that they don’t really have that “Disney” feel to them. Like, Pop and AoA have so many icons all over the place and are bright and colorful and really kid friendly, and she likes that. I really like my deluxes, I do feel like the Grand Flo would be a bit stuffy, but I’m still in love with AKL and the Poly, they still have the Disney feel to them, and I like feeling classy. Haha!

Discussion finished we had reached our destination, and checked in, they said it would be around a thirty minute wait, and handed us a buzzer. Well, that thirty minutes was just enough time for Paige to play a round of fruit ninja and pick out a prize over at the arcade and then we were being sat, and where were we, you may ask?

214_zps86cf522b.jpg

215_zpsaa02c1e9.jpg

216_zpscba610af.jpg

Yay! As you may know, I really don’t like the counter service over at DHS, and asked Jess what she would recommend, and it was Beaches and Cream! Yay, we were seated right at up the bar, facing the ice cream station, pretty nifty seats if you ask me, and pretty nifty ice creams too!

217_zps2839bdc2.jpg

218_zps4caa9640.jpg

Were we excited?! Of course! The place was absolutely awesome, and we both actually really liked being sat up on the bar, clearly, that’s where all the cool kids sit! Sidenote: remember when you were a kid, and you ALWAYS wanted to sit at the high tables, but your parents were always like “Ugh Katt no….sit here” …same thing with revolving doors…simple minds, amused by running through doors over and over again…no…just me? We were sitting directly parallel to the entrance to the restaurant, viewing this:

219_zps41979b1e.jpg

222_zpsb20aa8ee.jpg

And to the right angle of us was another longer “bar” section that you could be seated at:

220_zpsd46c1e28.jpg

And of course, the rest of the place, tables in the middle, and booths along the side wall:

223_zps6a24d1f8.jpg

It’s pretty small in there, but they make do, and it doesn’t feel cramped at all, which is nice! Today was definitely the day that I regretted being all “I wanna be healthy!” I wanted NOTHING more than to try one of the milkshakes, especially as they have awesome flavours and they looked amazing, as did the chocolate cake!

221_zps4a213c08.jpg

I ordered the “Grilled Cheese with Tomato Bisque” a “six cheese blend on Fresh baked sourdough bread”

226_zpsca69a9eb.jpg

While Paige got the “Grilled Vegetable Sandwich” a combination of “chilled vegetables topped with Arugula salad on sea salt focaccia with goat cheese spread” All their sandwiches are served with house made pickes and a choice of French fries or fruit, and Paige opted for the fruit.

225_zps9d2dc4d4.jpg

And in case you couldn’t see them LOOMING behind Paige’s sandwich, we also got the onion rings!

224_zpsd3d23427.jpg

Uhm…yum. Now, it said on the menu the thing about the pickles being with all the sandwiches, well, apparently that doesn’t apply to the grilled cheese, and I was a little heartbroken, I was REALLY looking forward to that pickle! I know I could have asked, but our server was around a bunch of different places and I didn’t really want to, so I suffered without…and ended up eating some of Paige’s when she was done eating.

What did we think of the food? Well, the onion rings were hands down the greatest onion rings I have EVER had, like, I was RAVING to my Mom about them, and she was all “I just got back from a high class cruise and you’re telling me about the onion rings” Obviously you haven’t had these. Like, I would go back JUST for these they were that good, I’m scared to eat onion rings anywhere else. They were the PERFECT combination of crispy, onion, batter, everything was TOP NOTCH. And in case you didn’t notice, they’re FREAKING HUGE.

The sandwich was great, I would have liked a little bit more cheddar cheese in it, as it was mostly white cheese, but I’m the girl who makes my grilled cheese with Kraft Singles (I know, I know, but really, they melt the best!) I really liked that it wasn’t too greasy tasting either, it wasn’t drowned in butter before it was grilled which was nice. The tomato bisque honestly just tasted like the Safeway deli take away soup, good, creamy, delicious, but nothing to rave about.

Paige really enjoyed her sandwich, but there was something on it that we found to not be too tasty, and after some experimentation, discovered it was eggplant, but aside from that it was delicious. The bread was the hit of the sandwich though, it was one of those that has like, spices in it, super yum!

We devoured the onion rings and finished all we could of the meals, and debated ice creams/milk shakes, especially after seeing the little Mickey ice cream that was so adorable, they even put the cherry stem in the back of it as a tail! So cute! However, the sandwich and soup probably had enough dairy for the week for me, so it was a no go. There was a table in there that had the infamous “Kitchen Sink” while we were there, it’s huge, jeeze! However there were some allergies in the group, so they brought out all the toppings separately, so we haven’t really seen it all constructed (I think it was peanut butter allergy? Super awesome that they could do that!)

Our server (who I realize I haven’t mentioned like, at all, but she was awesome, super friendly, it was honestly like when you go home to your friends house for lunch during the school day and their Mom makes you everything, “Thanks for the great grub Mrs M!”) brought us the bill:$11.99 for Paige’s sandwich and fruit, $8.99 for mine, and $6.49 for the onion rings. Totally worth it! We paid out of pocket, and were off on our very full way back to the boat dock.

Beaches & Cream Review
5/5
-Service was great
-Food was amazing
-The atmosphere was ADORABLE, they had the 50’s music playing the entire time, you were really immersed into it
-Great location and a lovely excuse to visit Beach Club during your trip!
-Wait time for a table was not bad at all, especially since it’s a smaller dining area (FYI: We were there around 2:00pm, so not PEAK lunch hours)
-They also have a little “to go” area for ice creams and shakes and floats and such

I grabbed one last shot of the BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING YACHT/BEACH CLUB on our way back to the ferry boat!

Like, I’m pretty sure that’s not real. I had also pretty much DECIDED that this was going to be the resort I stayed at in Sept with Mom, her friend and my friend, especially after finding out you can “rent” DVC points. However, after some deliberation, that changed, BUT, that’s another story!

Paige and I were super lucky to have a boat waiting right there when we got there, as we were hoping to catch the parade as we got back to DHS! Would we? Well….until next time!

Thanks, and Hi!! Where abouts are you from?

I'm in Toronto! I see you're in Calgary-- I have lots of family there but I haven't been back in about five years. I love the city, though!

We are staying at the Beach Club in August and will have to make a point of getting some onion rings!:goodvibes
