Moms pump and store. The traveling is temporary. Will you find a better job elsewhere?

Considering my last job paid better and required no travel (literally none, since I mostly worked from home), I certainly hope so. Considering the big boss could not interview me today, because he is in Chicago training, I am not certain the travel is temporary. The laws are always changing and training is habitual.

Pumping never really produced a lot of milk, and Connor does not really take bottles. I am convinced that is why he nurses for an hour at a time while other kids his age are done in five minutes. I do not really need to work as Crap makes a decent living. I just want to work to make extra money to take vacations and put away for the kids private school and college funds. If most of the extra money I make goes toward childcare, and gas since this office is almost a one hour drive each way from where I live, I would rather not give up this early time with them.

That said, I have another interview tomorrow with an ins company. We'll see how that goes.

Our dates may overlap yours, I think we'll fly to WDW on 10/30/13 before the 11/2/13 cruise. The kids want to hit Discovery Cove 10/31 and the MNSSHP on 11/1.

Cool. If we end up going, I will let you know.

It seems alot of the good jobs no longer pay well. I sit and cringe, thinking I would not want to work for min wage. By the time taxes are taken out , and getting gas, there is nothing left.

I hope the ideal job comes up for you.

My ideal job would involve playing poker with a bankroll. I love playing, but I hate gambling. The odds of that job coming along are not good, so I will have to settle for something else. An old office associate (same building, different company) went pro for Poker Stars. She had to invest a lot of her own money to do so. I have not played in a long time, but I only ever played with fake money when I did. People play stupidly with fake money, so it is irritating. Hold em' is the worst with fake money. Having pocket Aces and losing to the worst hand in poker (the 2,7) has happened to me more than once. If Disney would give me a job without leaving Vegas, that would be my second choice. I would love to write articles and travel (with my family) to all of the Disney locations reviewing and quality assuring them. That would be the perfect job. Crap makes fun of my writing though, so who would give me a writing gig? No really, the perfect job for me is probably staying home with my kids. That does not mean I will not try to see what is out there though.

That is neat that your trips can possibly be at the same time when you do to WDW next year. I really would like to go to WDW during the Halloween season.

I actually posted an update on my PTR last night, I'll be there sooner than Destination D. It's actually a couple of techs who are cleaning up my computer, I downloaded their application and it let them have access to our computers and they can take them over and delete all the malware and stuff that has taken over.

I wasn't shopping at the thrift store, I was dropping off stuff. I had to go to the grocery store twice because I forgot the tater tots. :headache:

I saw the update when I went to your thread.

You could have stopped at the thrift store to see something that was on sale just as Matt said. Ooh nice Tater tots for supper.

Good luck. Hopefully it will include a stationary work position.

I have a friend who is in pickle. She is a teacher at a private school. It has daycare, then nursery school then K-12. So far she has done a nanny share with some friends. The problem is when her kid is 5. She gets a discount on tuition, but still the part she has to pay digs way into her net pay. So the kid could go to school with her, into day care, into class, into day care and home with her for a big expense. Or the kid can go to public school for free, and daycare after, but the drop off will be a problem. What I think will happen is this kid will go to his Grandma and she will take him to school and maybe pick him up, and they will save lots of money.

Too many service jobs that pay just over minimum wage.

Been running around today with my parents and 4 kids! So, I'm not really keeping up to date with the conversation.

Hope you get a poker gig Kim. A SAHM friend of mine gets some money for playing poker on line. I don't know how she got this gig but there was a group that needed someone to hold an extra hand in the game. They are paying her for her time and she doesn't fork out any money for the pot. It doesn't pay much as she says that she only needs to play for about 6 - 10 hours per week. But it pays enough to keep her in coffee and cake.

A lot of parents are in the same position over here. Child care costs $$ and if you're earning minimum wage, by the time tax is taken out of it, they find that they might be worse off after paying for child care.

Xander's tuition is taking a huge jump this year moving from PS4 to kindergarten, which is five full days a week rather than just two. That is part of the reason I really wanted to find a job. The added tuition will make our discretionary income almost non-existent. If I got a job that paid enough over the added gas and childcare (full time for Connor and extended after school care for Xander), we could keep him at his private school past kindergarten. I can also put more than we already do into their college funds each month. They will be lucky to go to community college with the amount we are currently saving each month. If I do not get a job, we will likely put him in public school for first grade unless the year without extras is not too hard on us.

I get your friend's dilemna. Working at a private school (that I am assuming provides a top notch education), she probably wants to send her kid there (for ease as well as his/her future possibilities). The school district here is one of the worst in the nation, and I want to give Xander a fighting chance to get a great education. The better his education is now, the better chance he has of getting into a great school for college. I have two kids now, so Connor will need to go to school someday too. There really is a lot to think about.

Tell her that I will help her cover that job if she ever needs to take some time off from it. That would honestly be my dream job. How awesome that she lucked into that! My Dad has bankrolled me in live games a few times. I just do that for fun though. We've never won or lost much, so I just tell him to keep everything. It is his money. I've never played live with my own money other than penny poker games with family members when I was still a kid. I usually won more than I lost even back then.

Maybe you could take on one child part time, that way you are still at home, and you wont be putting any money out for gas.

I look for part time and alot of it is min wage, the only way to make the decent money is to go back to what I was doing and I really do not care to.

Well, I'm going to a "hiring event" downtown at a bakery tomorrow, so we'll see. I have to print out my resume before I go to bed, otherwise I'll forget.

Do you mean a child that is not mine? You lost me with this comment. The only people whose kids I would ever consider watching are people I would never dream of charging, like mine or Crap's siblings' kids. There is almost no way I would do it or want to do it on a regular basis though. My kids drive me crazy enough. When my sister's girls spent the weekend here, I about killed myself. Plus, her older daughter eats a lot. I would really be broke if she stayed here often.

I have a feeling you will be working at a bakery, so maybe this is your big break. If I take the crazy training job (which I doubt I will), I may have to look you up while I am in your lovely city.

Yeah... I really hope this works out. If you do take that job, let me know :) I'll take you for pizza! :teeth:

Well tape my mouth shut! Next idea.
