THE OLD LADIES DO DISNEY

Participants:
Me--51 year old Disney Freak
Mom--71 year old first timer

Well, let me tell you--us old ladies had a ball! We were at the World from May 7-15 and stayed in connecting rooms at POFQ. I have an annual pass and bought Mom an 8 day MYW with park hopping.

May 7--Saturday
We arrived at POFQ about 2:00 after an uneventful drive. Got our connecting rooms in Building #3 facing the parking lot. Pleased with the location--very close to the food court and bus stops. Bell Services delivered our luggage promptly and we were off to eat and buy a few groceries. We decided on Joe’s Crab Shack for a late lunch/early supper. Our waiter called us CHICKS! We laughed right in his face and hurt his feelings. It was a riot--we have not been chicks for quite a few years! To Winn-Dixie for a few supplies and then back to POFQ. Took a nice rest and then to MK for Spectro and Wishes. Arrived about 7:30 and went on and sat on curb in Town Square. Got Mom her first ever Mickey Bar. She loved it! After Spectro, we moved on down to Casey’s and watched Wishes from there. Sat for a while watching the castle change colors and then headed back to POFQ. It was great watching Mom experience MK for the first time. Magic Memories!

May 8--Sunday
Happy Mother’s Day!! Got up moving early and went to Epcot. Arrived about opening time and did SE right away. Then we looked at all the flowers and such on our way to the Mother’s Day Brunch. Very nice and really good food! We then rolled ourselves around the WS and just enjoyed the afternoon. Then back to POFQ . We were tired from our trip down and late night, so we just rested up in the evening. Had supper in the room and enjoyed beignets for a night time snack. Mom enjoyed her Mother’s Day and loved the Brunch!

May 9--Monday
To the AK at opening. Saw Lion King, Flights of Wonder, and the bug show. We enjoyed just walking around and taking in the park. Mom liked the flowers? I thought that was at Epcot! Lunch was at the Rainforest and then back to POFQ for a rest. Then we took the boat to DTD and did a little shopping and had supper. Supper was a hot fudge sundae at Ghirardelli‘s. Life is good! Back to POFQ, where we discovered we could see the fireworks at Epcot from our rooms. Nice ending to day!

May 10--Tuesday
Arrived at MK early and enjoyed the little opening show. I am such a sap for that. Took in some things at MK and enjoyed the beauty. I made the discovery that Mom and those black moving walkways on the rides do not get along well at all. No more of that! Wish I had a video of that experience! Enjoyed Dole Whips and then back to POFQ for a rest! We had lunch in the room and took a good nap. Then to Ohana for a 5:00 seating. Took the bus to MK and then a boat to the Poly. Seated with a great castle view and enjoyed a wonderful meal! Took the monorail to the TTC and then the FRONT of the monorail to Epcot. This was a complete surprise for Mom. She had never heard of such. She was a riot! Scared to death! I’m sure the driver got a big kick out of us! The view of the Epcot flowers was beautiful. Took the bus back to POFQ and to bed early. Tomorrow is Regis day!!

May 11--Wednesday
Up very early and caught the 6:20 bus to MK. Picked up a few folks at Riverside. Discovered one of those was a fellow Disser--RachelTori! Very cool to meet her. Arrived at MK around 6:40 and stood in line at the ferry boat place until they let us in at 8:30. LONG wait. Mom is a big Regis fan and all this worked out perfectly for her to see Regis. We already had this trip planned when the Regis and Kelly thing was announced. I was lucky enough to get the tickets. Seeing Regis was the highlight of the trip for Mom. After enjoying the show, we went straight to Crystal Palace, where we enjoyed a great breakfast! We were starving! Took in a few things at the MK and then returned to POFQ. We took a LONG nap. Live TV can really wear you out! Supper in the room and then back to MK for EMH. It was raining, but stopped in time for Wishes. The rain really cleared the crowd out! First we had a Dole Whip and then Wishes. Life does not get any better than this! We stayed there until midnight when it closed! No crowds--Magical! My favorite--riding Splash in my own log. I sang and yelled at the top of my lungs!! Somehow we made it back to POFQ and crashed. This was a wonderful, magical day at the World.

May 12--Thursday
No Mickey call today! Slept late and then went to the Disney Outlet at Premium Outlets. Had lunch off-site and then returned to POFQ for a nap! Old ladies have a hard time getting up at 5:00am and then staying up until midnight! To Epcot around 4:00. Guess what? These old ladies rode Soarin’. We loved it! Did a few things in FW and ate at the food court in The Land. Took in Illuminations from the Norway area and had a Mickey Bar while we waited. A nice restful day at the World!

May 13--Friday
To Disney Studios at opening. Took in some of the shows and had lunch at 50’s Prime Time. Disney Magic--got passes to sit in fastest finger seats at Millionaire. That was really neat! Back to POFQ for a rest and supper at the food court. Then back to MK for Spectro and Wishes again! We enjoyed another Dole Whip and people watched. Spectro and Wishes are Disney at its best!

May 14--Saturday
To AK for EMH at 8:00. Took a stroll on the Pangani Trail and saw the first show of FOTLK. Had an early lunch at Pizzafari and our last Mickey Bar. SOB! Back to POFQ for a rest and packing. Drove over to AKL for supper at Boma. Wonderful meal! Looked around the Lodge some and took in the sights. Then back to POFQ to finish packing. A definite I can’t believe it’s over moment!

Us old ladies had a WONDERFUL trip to the World! Mom did much better with all the walking than I ever thought she would. No wheelchair for her! In fact, she wore me out! My biggest surprise was that she just loved the MK. Wishes was her absolute fav. She could watch that every night! I had planned to spend much more time at Epcot. AK was her second favorite park. It was great fun taking someone for their first time! Mom had a blast and we sure made some good memories. Life is good!

Thanks for sharing the report. Glad you and your mom had such a wonderful time. I have great memories of going to WDW with my mom too.

Sounds like a great time!! I love going to Disney with my mom. We just love it!!!

Good report with a different perspective on things...enjoyed it...thanx for the efforts!!

Great report, I would love for my parents to come to Disney with us some times, I saw so many families with grandparents along with them. My parents are not that type, it makes me sad, they are more into doing there own thing then things with the grandkids, maybey someday!

We were there the same week as you and agree it was great. :flower: Soarin' was my favorite too! You are so lucky to have your Mom! (We both wish we had ours back to do things like this!)

So glad you had such a wonderful time!! :wave2:

What a great report! :cool1: We've been trying to get our parents to come with us to no avail. Maybe some day! :flower:
