I ate like a bachelor tonight. Ate chips and salsa through most of Ugly Betty and then made a PB&J sandwich. It was quite yummy!

Not yet, but I am taking her to meet someone tomorrow (a coworker of DH's and he really thinks she'll be great) and I have someone else online that is interested.

Last night after I put my two wild AWs up for bed, she came over to me, rolled over, and let me rub her belly. That's a first for her! And I sat there and CRIED!!! Argh, I can't do this fostering thing. I may need counseling.

I hope you have luck tomorrow...I saw your thread yesterday but didn't have a chance to respond. She is a cutie. Does she snore like my new guy? :)

I can relate to the fostering thing. Our neighbors take in future seeing eye dogs (they foster the puppies)...I know its a very good thing to do but I would be balling my eyes out every time a dog had to go back...they are getting a new puppy on 10/1 and sending the other back on 10/3. :sad1:

You are a wonderful person to be helping this baby the way you are! :)

I would have cried too, she's such a sweetheart!

I am having a friend over today and she's staying for dinner tonight. I am making chicken stir-fry, teriyaki noodles, and egg rolls. Thanks to everyone who helped me with the marinade. I ended up doing soy sauce, chopped ginger and garlic, and pineapple juice. It's been marinating overnight :)

WFD at your house?

Lindsay- Have you tried maybe a weak coffee to ween you off of it? Like brewed coffee 1:1 with hot water... you may find that the tea tastes better!:cutie: And can I ask a favor if it isn't too much trouble? Can you add the post # when you put up the page number? I have everything backwards from the rest of you guys I guess. And always have to subtract page numbers from current pages(that's advanced math sometimes!) to find the recipes.

I cannot do weak coffee at all. I like it mega-strong so the weak would just make me gag. I'm doing ok going cold turkey. The hot tea is making me pee like a racehorse, though. :lmao:

I can start adding post numbers if it will help.

Morning all--

Ross is back and full of a million stories...he had the time of his life....they went out lobstering, which was a surprise to the kids. They also went up into the lighthouse at night. He can't stop talking about it. (proud mom moment warning) and one of the dad's that went came up to me, and said that Ross is quite a boy...and couldn't get over how smart he was, that he knew that these were all smart kids, but Ross is scary smart! He also said that he was excellent, and the best behaved. (that meant more to me then the smart part, lol) They didn't get home until 7pm, and they were tired, hungry and very very smelly, lol.

Today I have to work at school for a bit, and then run some errands. I want to get some hamb. and get it cooked up and frozen, so that when I am recovering from surgery and the "boys" are doing the cooking that part is done for them. I also need to iron at least 10 shirts for Kris for work to have lined up.
Ross has football tonight and right after school I have to run to my hairdresser as I need her to take a bit more off the back for me.

Supper tonight will be kielbasa and cabbage, and homemade mac and cheese. It is a rainy day here so it should go well with the weather.

I hope you all have a wonderful day!!!

OK.... IMHO, this is the best soup ever. It may have some prep work, but it's worth it.

Smoky Portobello Mushroom Soup- Artist point- Wilderness Lodge

This is the recipe directly from the master recipe file at Artist Point. With basic directions like these I think even DH could walk into the kitchen there and figure it out (I know he'd be stuck on sweating and roux if they didn't spell it out for him:lmao: )
WOW!!!! i am sure that is heavenly..and it better be with all those steps. Perhaps i will hunker down in the kitchen in the dead of winter and whip that one up...today its going to be 75 degrees, so it will have to wait! :) thanks for sharing that!

And since we're going fancy, I did manage to fit in a spa pedi & nails while out running today! Now if I could get all this laundry done & pack.. ugh.
NIce! I think i'm going to treat myself to a mani and pedi today..i am so overdue, it looks like i have talons on my feet! :scared1:

Tonight I am making some ricotta-stuffed gnocchi gratineed with a sage-butter-parmesean sauce, a big mixed greens salad, and some crusty bread.
That sounds fantastic. We are going to our favorite italian place saturday night and i am so looking forward to their Gnocchi Aurora. Does anyone have a good "aurora" or pink sauce recipe to share?? This one has a lot of sundried tomatoes in it..yum!

aaawww...not that i am a parent, but i can imagine that just warms your heart :goodvibes

Tonight: cookout at a friends, so WFD: Reisling ( hahah , i think i am going to try the "relax" kind...) i have been craving wine all week, and because of my "counting calories" i have had to put it off..but not tonight! woohoo!

have a great day everyone!

Mornin... :goodvibes Happy Friday!!

Last night for dinner I had my homemade creamy vegetable soup for dinner.
I had it with the rest of my bottle of Napa Cellars Napa Valley Chardonnay.

Night before last I had the stuffed sole from Omaha steaks for the first time - it was actually really good. This is when I opened the Chardonnay. Perfect compliments - btw.

We have layed out the Top Sirloin steaks and the burgers from Omaha steaks to eat tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully they are good too!

Let me get ya'lls advice on something.
My DB and SIL have a 3 month old baby boy. He was having trouble with his formula - spitting it up. So they tried some different formulas - same thing.
Well my brilliant Mother told them he's spitting up because of the iron. That he should just drink regular cows milk. So they now give him a bottle of 2% cows milk every few hours.

I told my mom I didn't think this was a good idea - I'm no mother - or expert - but I don't think he should be on cows milk. If we were meant to drink cows milk - our mothers would have cow t*ts. But my aunt who works at a nursing home told her it was ok - "Cause she's a nurse"...:sad2: I mean - whats wrong with a little spit up - apparently its normal - I mean they did invent the burp cloth for a reason - right?

I took to the internet to find out what I could about it and it is absolutely terrifying what I found!! :scared1: I immediately forwarded the information I found to my mother - but she seems to be ignoring me - I guess because I'm no nurse or doctor.

They can choose to ignore me if they want - but as soon as the doc finds out - he's gonna be livid. Or they may lie to him. I dunno.

What is your opinion on this? I know - "Back in the day" and "they turned out just fine" and stuff like that...
But in my opinion - this is just as bad as smoking and drinking when your preggers - why would you risk it when today's knowledge has proved the consequences? I'm just the worried aunt...

OK, I am back. I did not end up making the dinner I had planned because we got home really late. Our train was delayed because a woman fell down the stairs while heading for the platform, apparently broke her ankle, then GOT UP AND WALKED ON IT ONTO THE TRAIN!! Can you say OW!! Of course, once she was on the train they had to hold it for an ambulance to come and take her to the hospital and for some reason the ambulance was really slow. I did not see her ankle, but people near us did and said it was bent sideways and that there was blood.

I actually felt really bad for her, and wasn't annoyed with the delay, but it did mean I did not have time to pull the menu I wanted to make together. Pasta puttanesca only takes 10 minutes start to finish, so that is what we had.

Tonight at DH's request I am going to make fish tacos, so we can eat in front of the TV....have to watch the Red Sox game.

Happy Friday everybody! :)

Those are the moments in life that should make you very proud. That dad didn't say anything we don't already know - You've got a great boy and you're a great Mom!!!!!:goodvibes

We like the stuffed sole too. It's not great but it sure is good enough for a quick dinner for us. I think you'll be pleased with both the sirloins and the burgers!:thumbsup2

No cooking for me tonight, we'll probably do take-out!

Have a great day all!

With all of my kids I was told not to do cow's milk until the babies were at least a year old. With my oldest, I breastfed, and supplemented with formula, and she was a spit up machine! I had to try many different kinds of formulas until I found one that worked for her.

My son exclusively breast fed for a year. He wouldn't ever take a bottle. Graduated right to a cup at one year.

The twins were on formula, because I just didn't produce enough milk for both. Twin A had to be on a soy formula for a while, because she would throw up (not spit up) the regular formula. Twin B was just on the regular stuff.

There are enzymes and other things in cows milk that a baby's system just can't handle. This is tricky, because you don't want to offend anyone, but I would suggest that instead of taking it up with your mother, they talk to their pediatrician. That's what they are there for! No question is too stupid to talk about with the doctor. When it's the health of your baby, you can't be too careful!

No cooking for me!!! Tonight is date night for Alan and me!!! I can't wait! I think we're going to go to Outback Steakhouse. We have a gift certificate that needs to be used!

Piglet.... Just a mom here (although I've got a Nurse Practitioner & respiratory therapists in the family & three Peds as good friends....can you offer advice by osmosis ;) ?)

You're right to worry about the cow's milk. SIL needs to see or call the Ped ASAP. Is she aware there are iron-free formulas out there? I'll leave the advice at that - don't want to invite too much debate.

WFD last night was a tweaked version of King Ranch Chicken Casserole. (This was based on an version printed in So. Living many years ago.) My DSs have issues with casseroles, so I called it 3-layer Cheese & Chicken Quesadillas and they bought it. It's all about the marketing :rotfl: !

Here's what I did....
1lb. (approx.) boneless, skinless chx breast (diced)
Salt & pepper to taste
2tb butter / margarine
1 med. onion, chopped fine
1 small bell pepper, chopped
2 cans Mexican Rotel (diced tomatoes w/ peppers & onions, Mexican seas.)
*I actually used 1 can Rotel + 1 can diced tomatoes to cut down on the heat level
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of chicken soup
8 oz. shredded cheddar (I used a Mexican blend)
small corn tortillas (I used the flour tortillas I had in the pantry)

Preheat oven to 325F.

Season the diced chicken with salt & peppr. Melt the butter/margarine in large skillet and add seasoned chicken. Cook chicken most of the way through, & add onion & bell pepper. Cook until veggies are soft & chicken is done. (While the chicken is finishing, I break it up into shreds.)

Remove chicken from heat & stir in Rotel and soups. Mix all together until combined.

Tear tortillas into quarters and place a single layer in the bottom of a greased 9 x 13 baking dish. Add 1/3 of the chicken / soup mixture. Top with 1/3 of the shredded cheese. Repeat layers 2x, ending with chicken / soup mixture. Bake at 325F for 25-30 minutes. Add remaining 1/3 of shredded cheese & return to oven for 5 minutes.

Have a great weekend everyone! I'll have bleacher-butt by Sunday evening....3 baseball games & a soccer game  !

Awww, Wendie...so nice to hear that Ross had a great time and that you got some nice compliments on his behavior, etc. :thumbsup2

See? I am lost...surgery??? I missed that. Is everything OK?

Just popping in to post a picture of last night's dinner, pasta puttanesca:

Oh yum! Do you have a recipe to share?

Let me get ya'lls advice on something.

So glad you are enjoying the Omaha stuff. I like the sole as well. It makes it better that it is so easy too...since my DH does not like fish, it is easy to prepare for myself and DS if he feels like eating it.

Like everyone said, I would talk to the pediatrition re: giving a child cow's milk...there are many other options and they do not like to start children on this until about a year (my son started at 11 mo.).

OW OW OW OW OW OW OW!!!!!!!!!!

Hi All! Hope all is well! I have some chicken wings and flank steak marinating in that new marinade I posted last week. We will have all of this between today and tomorrow...probably with a tossed salad.

Have a great day all!

:sad1:

She snores like a freight train!! Our Shih Tzu snores some but nothing like this one! She wakes us up at night =)

I was going to take her today but DH's coworker has decided she def wants her, knows everything about her, and is going to pay the pet deposit at her apt next Friday after she gets paid so we're going to take her to her apt next week, let her get accoustamed, and leave her. Man, just thinking about it is making me eyes swell up! We thought about having them meet today and if the lady wants her, she could come get her tomorrow but since she doesn't have the pet deposit paid yet SHE decided the responsible thing would be to wait until she does. Sounds like a winner! She's a first time dog owner so I'm telling her things she needs to have set up for her.

At least I get another week with her.

Today is my 'work from home' day so what am I going to do? Shoe shop! I am on a mad hunt for black pumps that I can walk in for hours - that I can afford. While I'm on my hunt, I am stopping by Costco to get ground beef (and whatever else looks good...) so we can finally have Shepherds Pie tonight! I can't wait!

HI there,
Well Ed is at home...No procedure yet..They have to do a consult with the surgeon who did his open heart surgery and make sure the procedure they want to do is safe..I saw the xray or his corotid arteries... The damaged one you could barely see..It looked thread size ,where the other side was easily visable.
We are having spaghetti and meatballs today.. I'll cook the meatballs outside of the sauce so that DD ca have hers meatless..I'll use the extra GB to make my stuffed peppers(with macaroni not rice) tomorrow.
