You have been really chatty the last couple of days. I hope I'm not missing anything or anybody.

Kathy Sheryl Hopefully Jerry will disappear and just be a very small memory.

I sort of uncovered a corner of my computer desk it looks a little neater not like before. It was a hazard for anyone walking too close kind of like the plant in the Rocky horror show.:rotfl2:

Well got to get those pork chops on the the grill since they haven't jumped and cooked themselves :confused3

My, you have us all down pat...did you like my wedding pics?

Your wedding pictures were very good! You were lucky to have someone you know and trust take the pictures. But I do believe you would have been just as beautiful no matter who took the pictures!! Your hair was so pretty - and dang at the rings you got on them fingers!! :thumbsup2 Very Nice!! ;)

OOhh - I have to find that book :lmao:

Its great - and pretty cheap too...
http://www.amazon.com/101-Things-Do...5362852?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1190243527&sr=1-1

I just finished eating my Ramen Concoction of the evening... Ramen, Broccoli, Cauliflower, cubed ham, and cheddar cheese with a little hot sauce for a kick. Yummo!!

i love wine talk! I really enjoy the Chateau st. michele reisling, i think its the columbia valley varietal. For reds i have to say that i like Piccolo Chianti..its soo cheap and soo good! and of course, all this wine tastes that much better with cheese!!

I tried a Chateau St Michelle reisling & I think it might have been an off bottle or the wrong year or something. :confused3 It had a strong minerally taste. I'll have to give it a try again. I'll have to look for the one Nancy? mentioned. The name sure is tempting! (Relax)

Yeppers - I can talk about wine all day. Having been to the wine country I really have a new understanding and respect for a nice bottle of wine. I don't discriminate - I like all wine equally!! :cloud9:
Right now I'm enjoying a nice glass of Railroad Red - Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon. Its very good!!

I haven't tried this Riesling - but I have seen it in our Wine Cellar - may pick one up next time (prob saturday) I do however have a bottle of 2006 Abraxas - Robert Sinsky Vineyards in my fridge that is very nice. It is actually a Riesling Blend - with Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Gewurztraminer. Picked it up in the Napa Valley so I don't know where else it might be available. But it is GOOOOD!!!
All you wineaux folks tell me what time we can meet and I'll open it. Ya'll bring some of that good food - and I'll bring my 60 bottles of wine!!

Hey girl, you've got the wine, you set the time!!!!! We'll be there.....:woohoo: Just let us NOLA girls know what you want to eat.

Lauren, Sorry you're not feeling well. I'm bummed on the exercise front already. My feet (plantar fasciitis) are aching already & I did my best to take it easy (a mile on the tredmill). So I'll try to get in the pool later with Alexis, which is going to be cold!

I was wondering what the heck was some of that stuff you bought at the grocery!

Kiwano http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horned_melon

Rappi is apparently Broccoli Rabe: http://www.wegmans.com/greatMeals/r...ecipe=1023&url=displayrecipe.asp&direct=false

I hope your feet are feeling better...I know what its like to have foot problems...I had a double bunionectomy, a couple toes straightened and know have really bad scar tissue/arthritis in my one foot (from my sledding accident :lmao: ).

I am afraid to eat the Kiwano...after reading about it...sounds gross.

I am so mad that rabbi is broccoli rabe!!! No where on the package did it say that. I thought it was some new type of veggie. I guess I know how I'll make it now.

We had the orange flesh melon tonight. I thought it was good and similar to cantelope. Tom did not like it.

i hear that..i am not feeling like working out today either..i think i may just do it tommorow a.m. instead of rushing around after work and before school...life really gets in the way of me getting into shape :rolleyes1

It sounds like you are running around enough for exercise!!!

Your wedding pictures were very good! You were lucky to have someone you know and trust take the pictures. But I do believe you would have been just as beautiful no matter who took the pictures!! Your hair was so pretty - and dang at the rings you got on them fingers!! :thumbsup2 Very Nice!! ;)

All you wineaux folks tell me what time we can meet and I'll open it. Ya'll bring some of that good food - and I'll bring my 60 bottles of wine!!

I am glad you liked all my wedding stuff. We are celebrating 3 months this coming Monday (we saved the top of the cake and cut it into quarters...so more celebrating!!!) Tom did a great job with the rings...I am soooo proud of him...

I'm in for wine and food!:thumbsup2

***********
Well, Tom has declared tonights meal his fav and it was really easy...:yay: He raved about it in work today...while he was eating left over shepherd's pie...everyone was jealous!

Becky - I guess the movies really aren't very glamorous at all. Seriously though, I don't know how you managed to work with all that commotion. Last month the building next door was being renovated and it just about drove me crazy, and I didn't leave with a splitting headache. I hope the filming is over soon for you.

Kathy - Just had to tell you, the pork was a huge success! After his first bite, Kenny held up all 5 fingers and wiggled them so I would be sure to see. And Sheryl, I used the fat free half and half. I'm sure the sauce was thinner, but the flavor was still really good.

Hey has anyone ever made creme brulee? I've been thinking about trying it, but I want to get one of those neat little culinary torches first.QUOTE]

I have failed to make creme brulee, but I only tried it once. Of course, that one time happened to be Christmas dinner when I had guests. :sad2:

Gretchen -- I am glad to hear your DD is doing better. I hope she continues to improve.

Tonight I trying a new sandwich I saw when I was thumbing through magazines this morning. Grilled apple, bacon and cheddar sandwich. I bought maple bacon instead of the apple smoked bacon the recipe calls for.

That sounds really yummy. Can you post the recipe if it is good? That would be perfect for me on one of these crazy skating days.

Thanks. Mom's feeling just fine. In fact, she really wasn't sore at all. Her pride was hurt more than anything else.

I loved all the pictures and I am so glad your mom is okay. How did they get the girls' hair into such perfect ringlets?? I always try to do that for Caili when she competes, but the curls always fall out before she gets on the ice.

I am off to visit the mil today...(ugh)..but I am looking forward to seeing Kris grandmother, I think she might be having TIA's at night, she also has her mind going fast, she has all of a sudden been asking where grandpa is, he has been gone for 10 years now, and keeps thinking that my inlaws little dog is a baby.

Wendie, I hope you survived your mil and had a good visit with DH's GM. It is so hard to see a loved one go through that disease.

liamsaunt - I so love that you post your pics of food you have made. As a beginner - sometimes its hard to know if what you did turned out right - I always love to see a picture of the final dish. I don't buy a cookbook unless at least half of the recipes have pictures.

I like cookbooks with pictures too. With kids, knowing how something is going to look on the plate is almost as important as how it tastes.

I'm not in the same category as the Liam sisters, but with their encouragement, I'm trying harder recipes, and seeing that I can actually do them!!!

I think there are a lot of family members on this thread, Glynis, who would put you in a category above us. The pot roast, the ranch potato salad and most recently the blueberry muffins are legends...if this thread has such a thing. :)

Count me in on the wino discussion, i just discovered a taste for Reisling myself, not the super sweet ones though..I am mostly a red wine kinda gal, but i figure i should branch out :)

So, I tried the famous eggplant sticks last night..YUM!

I'm glad you liked the eggplant sticks. Becky will be jealous...she still can't figure out how to make them.

I still have flops though.

Everyone who cooks has flops. There are Sunday linners where Becky and I dislike nearly everything we made. We make faces at each other across the table and quietly abandon the offending dishes. When I cook for guests at my house, which is pretty infrequent, I have learned to cook dishes I am completely comfortable making. If I am stressed because I am worried about how something will come out or one dish is taking longer than expected, then I can't enjoy myself and my guests, even if it is my family or ILs, feel uncomfortable too.

Nancy -- I hope you survived the Big E!

Caili is feeling a lot better today. I didn't feel great this morning, but I am okay now. Today we had Caili's annual physical, skating and Liam's Curriculum Night. I left the house at 10 AM and returned at 7:30 PM. I had a BLT for dinner.

Glad you got 5 fingers!!!!!!

Sorry, I haven't read everything, I just had to say:

Nancy: I LOVE Kitchen Nightmares!!!!!!!!!!

Why are the Red Sox torturing me so? Gack, gack, gack!!

No photos of dinner tonight because I just made paninis, which you've already seen a picture of. They were tasty, and, since we are talking wine lately, I'll add that part in. Tonight's wine was a pinotage from Southern Right winery. Not only do they make tasty wines, but they donate part of their profits to the ongoing effort to preserve the Southern Right whale.

Zandy, I actually have made successful creme brulee, let me know if you need the recipe. I have one of those little blow torch things (DH put it in my Christmas stocking--you know it's bad when you get cooking gifts from the hubby at the holidays and you think it's better than jewelry!).

The blow torch is OK and fun to use, but you can also get the same result by broiling the brulee with the sugar on it, while watching carefully, and then refrigerating to chill the custard back up. The trick with that method is that you have to serve the brulee within one hour of broiling it, or else the sugar crust gets all sticky and doesn't shatter the way it is supposed to. Sometimes that means the custard does not chill down enough before serving. The other problem with broiling is that most custard dishes are not broiler safe.

I am so glad to be here.
I've followed the last year and half of ya'lls lives (yes we say ya'll here in alabama) everything from marriages to miscarries, to falls and loss of loved ones or loved furbabies, to locking ol DH in the freezer (I loved that btw...) Even the occasional recipe or two! ;)

I have several I'm excited to try - the WFD staples like Glynis' Pot Roast and Potato Salad, the Velvet Shrimp, the Jambalaya... Hopefully DH will at least try some stuff if I make it.

Glynis - I love the pictures - you have a beautiful family. Thank you for all the recipes you have put here and on your website. I plan on trying many of them! You are an amazing cook.

liamsaunt - I so love that you post your pics of food you have made. As a beginner - sometimes its hard to know if what you did turned out right - I always love to see a picture of the final dish. I don't buy a cookbook unless at least half of the recipes have pictures. I can only hope to be as good as you one day. I guess practice makes perfect!

I'd love to go on and on about how I love each of you in a different way - especially Lindsay for starting this thread and the effort she puts into maintaining it for us. But it would get boring and really long....
so here - to each of you....

Kathy - keep safe down there... I'll be thinking about you

Lauren - what is a Wegmans? I was going to suggest a local market - fresh fruits and veggies are always the best route - and a farmers market may have some new seasonal stuff in for you to try. I love all veggies - but I don't eat near as many as I should. DH doesn't eat any - so I never buy 'em - they go bad before they get eat. I do want to try those Ziploc steamer bags though.. they look great.

WFD - tonight I'm fending for myself. Probably make up a new Ramen noodle recipe. Its crazy the things you can do with a pack of Ramen.

Welcome!! :cool1:

Tonight it's leftover meatloaf. Boy was it good! I did something different. I always heard the best meatloaf is made w/ a ground pork, beef, and veal mix. I cannot find ground veal around here but I did find ground pork. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! It made the meatloaf so good!

WFD at your house?

Hi everyone! It's been a loooooong time since I posted here (although I lurk regularly), but today I need some foodie input.

I'm making crawfish etouffee. What do I serve with it? I know it goes on top of rice, but I feel like it needs something on the side. Any ideas?

Morning all!!

Lindsey--I have heard that as well on the meat combo, and one of our favorite places to eat puts all 3 in theirs as well, and is is super yummy!!

Kathy--I have not seen the news since yesterday morning...how are things looking my friend?!!? I have my fingers crossed that it fizzles out!! I can not even imagine the fear that goes through your mind now after surviving Katrina!! I send you big hugs!!!
Is today the day you can get the pictures?!!?

Nancy- I understand the winter storm stocking up as well, we had an ice storm here in January '98, we lost power for 8 days at our home, It took us over a week to get the ice chipped in our driveway, it sounded like bombs going off when the limbs would break off the trees... Ross was not even a year old....Now in the winter whenever they say Ice, I am stocked up....cause even if you lose power, it is winter...we all made snow freezers outside so not much food was lost etc. I don't worry when we have big snowstorms because I know that we are just a shovel away from getting out, ice though, that shuts everything down. Whenever they say a major snowstorm is coming everyone heads to the store for what I call French Toast shopping.....it seems like everyone is in there buying milk, bread, and eggs in bulk, lol.

60 bottles of wine....name the time and the place....I will bring the lobster and steamers.....this is my kind of pot luck!!!!

My favorite Riesling is one that I came across at Sam's club...(I bought it for the pretty bottle the first time...then I went back and bought (ahem) a lot more) is Blue River...Here is how they describe it....Pale in color; very fruit forward; bright and vibrant with a slight touch of sweetness, the crisp acidity balances it well and lends a refreshing aftertaste.
It is a perfect balance...I do not care for very dry, or very sweet wines (unless for dessert)...this is sooo good!
My other favorite is a pinot grigio called (how perfect) Kris 2005....and yep he bought it,and brought it home for me as he found it amusing, lol. It is very crisp fresh and yummy.............

I love white wine...reds are to strong in the tannins, and will trigger migraines in me....not fun.

Sheryl--I must have had a bottle of the Chateau St. Michele reisling from the same batch as you, as I hated it...it had an "off" taste or something and I have never tried it again, lol. A friend of mine loves it and was the reason I picked up a bottle but just wasn't my taste I guess.

Gretchen--How is the princess doing this morning? Give her a kiss on the head for me please!!!

Lauren--How is the head doing girl??

Glynis--I love my taste of home and quick cooking magazines too!!! That and my tried and true betty crocker cookbook, lol. Some of my favorite cookbooks are ones that organizations put together, our PTO did one and my grandmothers senior group, those recipes you know are good as they are peoples favorites.
I actually cook "fancier" (lack of better word), and bake a lot or used to, but it seems like I had more time when Ross was a baby, then I do now. I end up making the same thing more often that I know is well liked and very quick. I am trying to do a new recipe once or twice a week now, as I really do love to cook and bake and miss it!

The visit with mil was very good, which was nice, there were a few things that grated on my nerves money wise, but I just had to let it roll off my shoulders, they will never learn how to handle money and it is just worse now that they have grandma's. I had to lend them some money for bread and bananas as they only have 7 dollars in the checkbook??????? It was a nice time otherwise.

Supper tonight is a new recipe I saw in a magazine I was reading at football last night......it is a crock pot recipe, so perfect for my life right now. It is called Rio Grande Pot Roast.....if it is good I will post it later....I have it going right now, and it was super easy to get started as it was just dump and go....PERFECT!!

Have a great day all!!

wow..i have so many new wines to try..thanks for the listings ladies..this is the kind of experimentation i like!
Well WFD tonight ...sushi :) you will notice this is an ongoing theme with me on Thursday nights...beacause I know that is when my fave sushi place gets in the super fresh fish! ;)

Hope everyone has a great day..:goodvibes

Good, crusty hot French bread (for wiping the plate if there are any juicy bits still lingering ;) ) and a green salad is the usual here. Or, I'll slice up a cucumber (with vinegar & s/p!) when I can get them fresh from the garden.

I had cucumbers in vinegar last night! I thought I was the only one who did that!

Crusty bread and a salad is what I was thinking. Thanks for the input. :)

I sort of uncovered a corner of my computer desk it looks a little neater not like before. It was a hazard for anyone walking too close kind of like the plant in the Rocky horror show.:rotfl2:

You would be right at home in my house :lmao:! My desk is a hazard as well and no amount of coaxing from the Flylady seems to help :confused3

I think there are a lot of family members on this thread, Glynis, who would put you in a category above us. The pot roast, the ranch potato salad and most recently the blueberry muffins are legends...if this thread has such a thing. :)

Everyone who cooks has flops.

Caili is feeling a lot better today.

I agree with you about our Glynis! My family knows if it is a Glynis recipe it is going to be good! I also think that flops are a part of cooking. It is funny, people generally expect miscalculations in every walk of life but most people who fix meals for their families are disappointed if their dishes turn out "wrong". I think it is because you cook meals for your family with your heart.

I am glad that Caili is feeling better.

Nancy: I LOVE Kitchen Nightmares!!!!!!!!!!

:thumbsup2 ME too. I can't get enough of this show. I watched his new show and I am not sure which I am going to prefer. Doesn't matter though, I will watch them both!

Wine? Did someone mention wine? 60 bottles of wine?

What time do I need to be there? ;)

Not just wine......the NOLA girls are cooking :thumbsup2

Nancy- I understand the winter storm stocking up as well, we had an ice storm here in January '98, we lost power for 8 days at our home, It took us over a week to get the ice chipped in our driveway, it sounded like bombs going off when the limbs would break off the trees... That ice storm is the one I can't forget! For us it came out of no where and one minute is was raining and the next the lines were down. It was awful. We have a wood stove so we never need to worry about being cold but I cannot stop worrying about a fully stocked house :confused3. If I hear snowstorm I make sure we have plenty of bread milk and sandwich food.

Now this wine party sounds awesome. I will bring dessert :thumbsup2

No cooking here tonight. Kady and I each have hair cuts, then Kady has her riding lesson. Jeff is going into work with Daniel this afternoon so Marisa is going to run downstate when she gets out of work to get him. I have no idea when they will get home so I think they will pick up pizza

Is today the day you can get the pictures?!!?

We're keeping a close eye on the development of this system, not sure where it's going yet or how strong it will be.:sad2:

Hopefully later today I'll be able to post Kyle's senior pics!

Hi everyone! It's been a loooooong time since I posted here (although I lurk regularly), but today I need some foodie input.

It's already been posted, but I also do french bread and a salad!:thumbsup2

Gretchen - How is your sweet girl doing today?

WFD tonight is Lauren's Shepherd's Pie, salad and crescent rolls! YUM!

So, I tried the famous eggplant sticks last night..YUM! Even Greg liked them, I was psyched! I also made up some fried zuchinni to have for lunch today with some Cukes that i "marinate" in white vinegar and black pepper..it might sound weird, but its really good..i used to have it when i was a kiddo.tastes like summer.
WFD tonight..probably a salad and a piece of garlic bread ( from last night) for me..Greg is at the fire station and i have class..so low key it is!
Have a great day everyone!!! :goodvibes

I love those cucumbers, too! Only my mom always submerged them in apple cider vinegar and a little bit of sugar! Yummo!!!
