Thanks for all the well wishes! It was amazing. I don't really have a great ring pic yet, it scatters too much light and I just get weird flashes. It also doesnt' help that I am not the best photographer.

Anyway, I hope this teaser pic is good for now.

And Shovan, after those pics, I am definitely coming over! ;) Yum.

That is a beautiful picture!

Lulu--great pic! You both look so happy!

Kathy--DH is watching the Saints right now too! He is such a Drew Brees fan ( DH went to Purdue) that now the Saints are his number 1 team!

Thanks all for the kids/food advice. Emma actually ate a little chicken tonight--the dessert bribe worked. Matthew OTOH, had popcorn. He was throwing and spiting food--so I figured he was drinking milk, so whatever else he wanted was good enough. I sure don't want him screaming at me at 2 am hungry!

Hello my wfd friends...
I have missed the last 2.5 days and am waaaaaay behind, lol............I have been busy with back to school stuff.......in case you didn't know, I am a child advocate in our school system, and I have had to go in for start of the school year meetings, and to start going over the first of the year files of issues we will be dealing with....some stuff would knock your socks off, and turn your stomach.................it is a difficult job, but someone has to have these poor babies backs. So between this, and getting Ross ready with shopping and school supplies etc, we have been eating soup and sandwiches or something from the local deli.

We are leaving in the a.m. for another long weekend to Bar Harbor to celebrate the end of summer. We start back on Tuesday the 28th. What happened to starting after labor day??? I can't get over that this is Ross' last year in elementary school!! Kathy I can't even imagine what your year with Kyle will be like, the first of the lasts on everything..what a sad and happy time all at once!!

I will be back to post again on Monday, and my goal of the next week it so fig out how to post pics so I can share the beauty of our state!!

I am sure I will miss someone/thing but my intentions our true!!

Lori--glad to have you back...your gram will be smiling on you forever! Stay safe in the shop!!!

Nancy--my goodness what a tumble, I am so glad you are ok!!

Kathy--I hope this finds you feeling much better....I too have a high pain med tolerence...my dr usually has me go in to get an IV of it when I need it, as it is stronger, then has me follow with oral afterwards.....again I hope you are doing much better..........enjoy your Saints.....though I have to say I am a true born and raised New England girl, so my heart goes to the Pat's always....though I once dated a guy who loved the Saints...I think in a box in the attic I still have his hat, lol...

Lulu--Congrats...now stay on cloud 9, but we want pictures and all the wedding details....ask Lauren we are wedding junkies!!!!

Janice--I would have been PO'd and would have been at the school in the office in a matter of minutes...they would have been changing school policy while I stood over them....Go and say your thoughts for sure!! Glad it all turned out ok!!

Steph--at times of these parent frustrations I am so happy that Ross has never been a picky eater.......he really has just one food he can not stand, and that is white potato in any form....loves sweet though:) Our rule has always been you must have a bite of it, no matter what and no matter if you have had a bite of it before......(errrrr) except white potato...we learned the hard way that this food dislike was not going to change, lol

Sheryl--Your cheese and bread feast looked sooo yummy, and I must also add that your hubby is very handsome......what a lucky women.....dh and Marrrrrio in your kitchen;)!!

Glynis--I am glad you all will have Alan home with you soon....that man will need some time to recover...what a tough situation he has been watching...there is no good way for it to end............

Ok all we are leaving early in the morning....first stop is our local deli for french toast that is the size of small pizza, then off to BH....first stop Jordan Pond House for popovers, lobster rolls and a view like no other!!!

If I missed someone or something...I apologize and have all of you in my thoughts.....Have a wonderful, safe, and fun filled weekend....those that are hurt feel better soon!!

Wendie, Have fun! Please remember to take a pic of the "door yard" where ever you are staying and remember...cheers to your DIS friends!!! Love ya!

I still don't know how to do the multi-quote thing, so I am probably going to forget half the people I wanted to reply to!

Lulu, congratulations! :goodvibes

Lindsay, if you want to make a lasagna, you'll need liquid. But, you said you wanted to use the crunchy corn tortillas--so, do you want your dish to be crunchy or soft when it is done? Anyway, since I know you don't like tomatoes, you could use chicken stock, thickened with some flour, milk and oregano for a sauce.

So, here is dinner. The good, corn chowder:

DH said it was the best chowder ever!

The bad, the scary, the horrible disaster:

I'll tell the disaster story tomorrow...too tired to type it all in tonight.

BECKY, as always it looks great...even the bad...DH just started playing "Love Song" by Blake Lewis from American Idol (I know its a Cure song)...who I will see this coming Tues...yeah!...everything is good now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nancy, I finally figured out what I did! I used the measurements from an old french bread recipe that I used to fix in the bread machine. It was one that we always liked the taste of. But I followed the instructions from the recipe for the Kitchen Aid Mixer plus the tips I found on that other site.
(for the wheat loaf, I used 1 cup bread flour, 1 cup whole wheat flour)

So here is both recipes!

Old Favorite French Bread Recipe ( for Welbuilt Bread Machine)
1 package Dry yeast
2 cups Bread Flour
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Butter
1 cup Warm Water

Assemble the machine and pour the yeast into the inner pot along the edge, then add all of the remaining ingredients, carefully adding the water last. Select MED on the indicator, close the top and press start. When the bread is done, let cool and slice, serve as desired.

And this is the one I found on a Kitchen Aid Mixer message board.

"Old Reliable" French Bread (for Kitchen Aid Mixers) Recipe
This recipe came with my Kitchen Aid mixer, and makes two absolutely beautiful loaves of French Bread. I misplaced my recipe book and recently found it again, so am adding this recipe to Zaar for safe-keeping! Make sure you use a very, very sharp knife to make the diagonal slashes. This bread is delicious on its own, for sopping up stew or soup broth, and with your favorite cheeses or toppings. Prep time specified includes rising time.
30 servings
15 slices per loaf
3 hours 2½ hours prep
2 packages active dry yeast
2 1/2 cups water (105F to 115 F)
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon melted margarine or butter
7 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cornmeal
1 egg white
1 tablespoon cold water
1. Dissolve yeast in warm water in warmed mixer bowl.
2. Add salt, butter, and flour.
3. Attach bowl& dough hook to mixer, turn to Speed 2 and mix about 1 minute or until well blended.
4. Knead on Speed 2 about 2 minutes longer.
5. Dough will be sticky.
6. Put dough in large greased bowl, turning to coat.
7. Cover and let rise in warm place, free from draft, about 1 hour, or until doubled in bulk.
8. Punch dough down and divide in half.
9. Roll each half into 12" x 15" rectangle.
10. Roll dough tightly, from longest side, tapering ends, if needed/wanted.
11. Put loaves on greased baking sheets that have been dusted with cornmeal.
12. Cover and let rise in warm place, free from draft, about 1 hour, or until doubled in bulk.
13. With sharp knife, make 4 diagonal cuts on top of each loaf.
14. Bake at 450F for 25 minutes, then remove from oven.
15. Beat egg white and water together and brush each loaf with this mix.
16. Return to the oven and bake 5 minutes longer.
17. Immediately remove from baking sheets and cool on wire racks.
18. Serve with your favorite spread such as herbed butter, garlic bread topping, etc.

Wendie, Wow what a tough job! My aunt is a school counselor & I have heard some of those stories! So God Bless You for being there for those kids! :flower3: Good idea to get away often so you don't burn out, dealing with all of that will take you down really fast! Hope you have a great time and I would love to see pics!

And on the guys in my kitchen, well I literally was laughing out loud, which just led to having to give dhubby an explanation!!!! :rotfl:

Sheryl

THANKS EVERYONE for all the compliments on my bread pics!!!:goodvibes :thumbsup2 Y'all are great, where else could I gloat about my own cooking!!!!

Becky, That chowder just made me hungry again!! And that does not look like a disaster, actually looks yummy & cheesy! You should see some of the disasters that have come out of my kitchen!

Stephanie, Laura sure had some great suggestions! I would never have thought of everything the way she did.

Lauren, I see you're having Blakitis again! ;)

clitecmder, Welcome!!!! :goodvibes Lindsay keeps us all going here! :thumbsup2 She updates Page 1 so we can easily find all the recipes. We have some great cooks on here & fun food porn, so join in!!!

Gotta get to bed y'all! I'll have Alexis tomorrow (usually my day off) & it's her 2nd day of school after going on Monday & then being off all week! I still think that is the dumbest "phase in" schedule I have ever heard! What are these educators thinking sometime?

Have a good night everyone! ( especially you Lori, sending some good mojo your way :wizard: & be safe too!)

Sheryl

Motto to live by:
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, Latte in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!"

what do you think?

What a nice motto and one that I could live with. By now I have accepted that I am never going to be a size 8 again and I am never going to be able to wear 4 inch heels for 8 hours a day, but I have never wanted to admit that I would much rather have my chocolate and my glass of wine after I have my coffee with cream than head to the gym 5 days a week and live on Kelp.

Hey guys - I'm MIA tonight - my Saints are on TV!!!!!:cheer2:

You are not missing.......you are going to keep an eye on us and keep looking to see if Lori posted....you are worried about her alone at work at night. You alwyas keep an eye on this bunch :thumbsup2

Janice, I LOVE it! Can I steal your motto? We should put it in our signatures!!!! I think Tom talks to our outside cats too...he can't get their names straight but loves them all the same...BTW, they are all the same colors!!!

Enjoy your Saints Kathy!!! That's football right? :)

ITA about the signature :thumbsup2

Lauren- Buddy used to milk Jerseys at the farm he rented for the owner to make her butter. People used to drop cats off to join the hordes of feral cats already there. She use to feed them and Buddy always put out milk. He would never admit it but he used to spend a lot of time trying to "tame" the feral cats in the barn. One afternoon I had stopped by with him and as he was checking his animals cats started appearing. There had to be 30 of them following him all over the yard becasue they had gotten used to him brushing them before he fed them. These men who talk a tough game are really softies, aren't they? :upsidedow

wow what a great thread --- hello everyone!!! :cool1:

Well hello back at you. Welcome to the WFD thread. Please stay and post and share recipes with us. We have an index on Page 1 which Lindsay maintains for us. Check it out, there are so many good tried and true recipes there.

Lulu- I loved your photo and now I need to see more. Both of you look so happy and Sweetie....you just glow :cloud9: . If that look is CLoud 9, you just keep floating!

Wendie- What a job you have! My niece is a behaviorist in an inner city and she is moving from K through 5 to Middle School. You are so right, someone has to be there for these children. She gets them when they are too much for the teacher and her classroom is a haven. She has gone to some of their homes and she says her room is sometimes the only place they can relax :sad1:. She just let Marisa know that her room has nothing and she needs to supply it. Marisa pulled out her trusty supply box and Debbie is to "shop" there.

You and your family have a wonderful weekend...you are making me hungry with your breakfast plans!

Sheryl- I would have loved to be a fly on the wall when you told your DH about the "Other Man" in your life :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Thanks for the recipes. I added them to my file and will start practicing them after Kady is in school.

Becky- I would eat your disasters any day any time if that is what they look like. Mine head straight to the pail...there is usually no salvaging them :rotfl2:

Tonight it's Boo Patties and Spanish rice. Easy and I don't have to turn the oven on :)

WFD at your house?

Lindsay, if you want to make a lasagna, you'll need liquid. But, you said you wanted to use the crunchy corn tortillas--so, do you want your dish to be crunchy or soft when it is done? Anyway, since I know you don't like tomatoes, you could use chicken stock, thickened with some flour, milk and oregano for a sauce.

When I said add taco seasoning, I meant add it from one like from a taco kit, where you add water. So it will be juicy. Also I didn't say crunch corn tortillas, I meant flour, like taco/burrito/fajitas shells, the soft ones. Does any of that make sense? I love the flavor and texture the taco seasoning and water give the meat so I thought it would be good in a casserole.

Lindsay I think your idea of a mexican lasagna is good. Try the soft corn tortillas thought flour would be a gummy mess.

I'll post later what we are having for dinner. I think I'll need to get ready early and out of the house. Last night coming back from our mini trip to get dinner alot of the roads were flooded. So this could be an interesting day.
Should see if Alex still has school alot of the schools are closed.

Lori Glad Rick is in Detroit maybe he will be able to get out to go back home. Hope you are ok after your overnighter.

Morning all. DS was pickier than ever this morning--he licked the PB &J off the toast and refused to eat the bread. :confused3 But he also had grapes, OJ and Milk, so we're getting some nutrients in him. I did find out yesterday, though, that he really likes these fruit chips made by Flat Earth. The ones we have are Peach Mango. I'm gonna buy a bag of the veggie ones and see if he'll eat those.

Not sure WFD tonight. We're headed to my parents tonight to drop off the kiddos for the night. DH and I have a LONG workout tomorrow morning, so we figured a good opportunity for a sleepover at grandma and grandpas. TGIF all!

Lindsey--that casserole sounds good--let me know what you end up using and how it turns out!:thumbsup2
