Kathy- I love Mahi-Mahi, and Laura's recipe looks so good! You are going to be one popular woman in this house tonight :thumbsup2. All I could think about today was Chinese food, and then I went to my MIL's to clean while she visited with Kady. While I was vacuuming the circuit blew. I reset it but she would not put the AC back on! It was 96 degrees with humidity off the clock and not one window open..... I am so not cooking tonight. Marisa is bringing home Chines on her way home tonight.

I hope you guys enjoy your Chinese as much as I plan on enjoying mine!

Tomorrow is Ross' play...he is in a production of Jack in the Beanstalk and is the strong man in the circus. We will take him out for dinner to celebrate afterwards. (his choice...which means...ruby tuesday)

Have a great weekend all!!

Break a Leg Ross and enjoy Ruby Tuesday!!;)

Becky was very skeptical when I told her my menu plans tonight, but actually, the corn pie was pretty good. It was basically a vegetarian pot pie with a biscuit crust. Liam even liked it...shocking! The only problem is that it was fairly labor-intensive. It definitely wouldn't get Kathy's EASY rating.

If it was labor intensive for you I'm not even gonna think about it!:rotfl2: It sure looked yummy!

Hersey- I love Tastefully Simple. In fairness to me, my brownie disaster was probably because I generally use TS brownies ans there is no need t add an egg.

Kathy- it was so good! We have not had it in a while so Marisa ordered enough to feed an army, good thing too becasue my SIL loves it and mt DS was here for dinner. Big surprise too, becasue he has not had his day off since he started his new job.

I can't wait until Buddy has his when he gets home. We have to order his alone because he likes it so hot and spicy that no one else can get near it....and the cooks pack him extra hot chili sauce, and it still isn't hot enough for him. Risa told them when they thought is was spicy enough add more! Maybe tonight is it hot enough:thumbsup2

Laura- your pie looks great!

Wendi: tell Ross "Break a leg!" for me as well. Enjoy your celebration dinner tonight.

I don't know when Buddy is getting in tonight. There is a wedding at the farm tomorrow and he has been in the field all week with our help hoeing, weeding and now he started topping. He wants all of the plant s to be even before the guests arrive. I told him the plants are beautiful this year but he wants them to look pretty in case anyone looks at them. I was going to say only a farm boy would think that then I remembered that the bride and groom and their families have been farming in town forever!

If it was labor intensive for you I'm not even gonna think about it!:rotfl2: It sure looked yummy!

I probably won't make it again, unless desperate. It tasted good, but it was about an hour of active time, 30 mins inactive, and my kitchen was a disaster, which, by the way, inspired by Stephanie, I started painting today.

I am jealous of the Chinese food. We can't have it here anymore, due to Liam's shellfish allergy, but there are definitely times I crave crab rangoons. I like all the bad things: spring rolls, crab rangoons, chicken fingers, and fried rice.

Has he tried Indian food? DH is like that, and he orders the vindaloo hot. I like spicy food, but the way he orders it makes me cry.

Speaking of DH, he is home two weeks from Tuesday!

Have you all seen the Food and Wine events are on Allears.

I did not know they were posted. Heading over there now:cool1:

You make me chuckle becasue you and your sister are the most creative cooks I know, and if you won't make it again....it is not even going to make it to my file.

Now I want to know where do you ladies get all your energy in the summer? There is no way I am taking a pint brush to my really needs painting walls until it cools off and I can leave the windows wide open.

I am with you on the fried Chinese food. I worked in a Chinese restaurant for a few years after Daniel was born and I ate more of the fried stuff dunked in duck sauce than I thought possible! I did gain an appreciation for the real deal in Chinese food though. The cooks made lunch and dinner every day and then supper after the dinner hour, and it was nothing like what was on the menu. It was so good, although I very seldom asked what I was eating. On Saturday night Moi made "American" food for us. I had never eaten pork cops or spaghetti and meatballs with tons of ginger :rotfl2:, but it was amazing as well.

The guys lived in Boston but they stayed in the "boys" house during the week. They went home on Sunday night and came back Tuesday morning before lunch with all kinds of goodies from Chinatown. We used to eat some wonderful treats while we cleaned bushel after bushel of snow peas. There was one "old" ( she would have been my age now :lmao:) gal there who would never touch anything that the chefs made unless it looked like sweet and sour chicken. I often thought that she passed up such wonderful food because she was afraid. The only thing I never tried was the chicken feet soup :scared1:, I just could not get past that leg thing sticking out of the bowl and those chicken toes :rotfl:

Have a great weekend everyone!

I have never had Indian food, I don't think DH has had it either. I bet he would like it. There is an Indian restaurant in Windsor that has a very good reputation, I should order some and try it.

I bet you are counting minutes until he is home!

My sister just told me that Timmy is now scheduled to deploy the 30th. His date has changed a few times and he is so pumped up that he is having trouble sleeping. She said that she talked to him last night and he sounds good, but lost the paper that his address was on. Chris did the same thing...three times! I'm going to call him over the weekend and try to get it, we have already started collecting goodies and things for the boxes we send, but they aren't going anywhere without an address ;).

Hey L, the corn pie looks pretty good! The tomatoes look awesome though.

Well, we are not going out to eat tonight after all. DH ended up having to take one of his clients out for cocktails and appetizers late this afternoon because he was all upset about something. DH reported that after a dozen oysters and a couple glasses of wine, the client went home a happy man, so I guess it was worth it.

Instead of going out, we are having comfort food--spaghetti with my favorite tomato sauce (just tomatoes, an onion, some butter, salt and pepper), super cheesy garlic bread, and a green salad. Picture to come, probably tomorrow morning.

TGIF, everyone! :cool1:

When Becky and I lived in Boston, the restaurant nearest our apartment had two menus...one for people looking for chicken fingers, and one for people looking for real Chinese food. We saw many bowls with chicken feet sticking out of them.

I love Indian food. The spice combinations are different, if you've never had it, but it is really good. For appetizers I like paneer pakoras and vegetable pakoras. Somosas are a little heavy, but tasty. For entrees, I like mutter paneer (peas with homemade cheese in a creamy, spicy sauce), chicken or vegetable korma (creamy tomato sauce with almonds) or chicken tikka masala. I also like chicken vindaloo, if DH doesn't order it "Indian Spicy." We also order all kinds of naan. YUM!

And yes, the kids and I are getting very excited about DH being home.

Did you know that you can order boxes from the Post Office for free? You can get a set of set rate boxes or another size, and they will deliver them to you free of charge. I did that during DHs last deployment, and it was very convenient. Visit the US post office site for more info.

DD and DSIL get them and then they stuff so much stuff in them. The flat rate box is fun for them because they like to see how much it "would" have cost. CHris never would ask for anything and every time I asked he would say he really did not need anything. Marisa finally emailed him and told him that he better come up with a list becasue Auntie was going to keep sending bug killer, itch cream and athletes foot powder :rotfl2:. Funny how that threat got a response!

*sigh*

Today we are going over to my ILs. My MIL is cooking for my husband's birthday. It means yet another meal of hamburgers cooked one at a time on a Foremann grill, no seasoning, mashed of all juice that ever existed in the meat, then topped with a dollop of Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce. *shudder* She is also making homemade ice cream, which is really more "ice milk" than ice cream.

Blech.

WFD at your house?

Well, I guess Tom had mental telepathy (sp) and knew all of you were talking about Chinese, so that is what it will be tonight.

Nancy, I am like Buddy, the hotter the better. I love the hot mustard on and in everything, specially wonton soup...oh and that hot pepper oil on steamed dumplings...

Have a great day all!

Your sister sounds like a bit of a challenge! Mine is just a freak. A selfish, self centered, it is all about me and my family, you don't understand do you???, if there is nothing in it for me I'm not here kind of person.

Buddy says how can she come from the same family Gail and I were brought up in????? I think they would do well together....Your sister can badger my sister and my sister can have a pity party that is enough for the both of them :thumbsup2

All whining aside, it has got to be hard to live in skin that is wrapped up so tight, don't you think?

My sister still has me really mad. How can someone be so judgemental of what I do when her life is not perfect? I would never say anything like she said to me to anyone...she is just clueless!

It must be hard for our sisters...why live life like that? I am finally letting it roll off my back...she's been the same way for almost half my life!

Lauren--sadly, no the kitchen is not finished yet. I did buy some fun vintage wine ads to hang on the walls, but I managed to break one of the frames before even hanging the picture:headache:

Don't feel bad. We are painting a door today that we had installed about a year and a half ago!!! We also have to paint the kitchen door moulding that I rubbed up against with hair dye on my shirt!!!

The wine ads sound fun!!! Hopefully, you can fix the frame...

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Lauren - what a wonderful guy. Now hold that loving memory and try to retrieve it when he does something really dumb ('cause they all do eventually). ;) Seriously, I'm really glad you got good news at the doctor and about your car.

Tonight we are having Lauren's braised pork chops. Special husband request. I will fix some white rice but I'm not sure yet what veggie we are having. For dessert, they are having Killer Turtle Brownies.

Yup, I maybe have to over look the messy projects that he decided to start on the kitchen and dining room tables!!! :rotfl:

I hope the pork turned out as good as last time. :)

Thank you for your good thoughts!!!

You are one lucky woman! Your sister better MHOB because if you & Nancy stick them together it will be "Revenge of the DIS Sistahs"!:rotfl2:

No fried green tomatoes for me tonight, I've been craving Chinese food for a while and tonight's the night!:woohoo: This city is getting pumped up - the Saints start training camp today!!:cheer2:

Like I said, I cannot undersand my sister. She has soooo much jealousy and does not like to see me happy. It's sad. She is a trouble maker. I just have to let it go. I finally told her to MYOB, which I have never done...guess the therapy helped!!! ;)

Dinner last night: Grilled Turkey burgers topped with a slice of provolone, cheddar ( Prov. and light american for me), red onions, lettuce and ketchup..corn on the cob..and baked fries ( for the man ;)..it was actually quite good..nice healthy alternative to red meat!

We have a wedding tonight, so wedding food whatever that may be!, and saturday we have a lobster bake ..YUM!!!

I wish I could get DH to eat turkey burgers...I make really good ones too. He won't even try them.

Have fun this weekend!!! I love wedding stuff so please share details!!!

Lori Hopefully the frogs made it without melting. It was fun putting the box together.
I loved my visit in NO but I can't think of anything that's low-cal or child friendly ;). Glad you like it.

I'm still deciding on dinner Tomorrow we go by friends and I know I'll snack a little (tastefully simple party) so I'll save my points for then. I wanted to go out for dinner oh well this is all for me being able to loss the tire around my middle.

Janice, I love TS! Now I think I need to make some beer bread!!! Maybe next week for a party we are going to.

I hear ya with the points!

Tomorrow is Ross' play...he is in a production of Jack in the Beanstalk and is the strong man in the circus. We will take him out for dinner to celebrate afterwards. (his choice...which means...ruby tuesday)

Have a great weekend all!!

Break a leg Ross! Enjoy your dinner! I  RT!

That is wonderful to hear!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Have you had his friends over yet?

My sister just told me that Timmy is now scheduled to deploy the 30th.

Good morning everyone!

I'm sorry, I was not very attentive yesterday as I just saw two posts that Lauren responded to that I totally missed.

Laura - Great news that DH will be home in two weeks, the kids must be so excited!! Anything planned for the homecoming?

Nancy - for you and Sis on Timmy's deployment. The 30th of this month?

Lauren - I'm glad you're not letting your sister get to you, she's not worth the worrying.:sad2: And thanks for pointing out the things that I missed yesterday!;)

WFD tonight - Omaha steaks and King Crab Legs!!YUMMMMMMMO!

Good morning everyone!

Lindsay To bad your MIL has to rekill those burgers. Good thing your DH has a good cook at home. My MIL used to think you had to cook hotdog for 1/2 hour. Spaghetti was like eating mash potatoes. But she could cook a mean fried chicken.

liamandcaili I too love indian food. trader joes has a good vegetrian somosas if you have one close by.

Well of to do the laundry. Do I know how to have fun or what?:rotfl:

I'm back from camp! I am too lazy to read through a weeks worth of posts so let me know if I missed something exciting =)

Tonight we're having burgers on the grill. I want gorgonzola stuffed burgers but am not sure I want to spend the $ on the gorgonzola. So we may just have plain cheeseburgers with bacon.

Hi everyone! Hope that the weekend is off to a good start for all of you. I have good news, the guy at the package store was able to order the Rosa Regale and so I went in today to pick some up. He had only ordered one case, got it in yesterday and had already sold 2 bottles. I bought two and so there you are. he does a wine tasting on Friday evenings, so I told him that if he offered this baby one night he would not be able to keep in in stock.:thumbsup2

Kathy- don't feel badly about missing posts, I do it all the time but thought that I was the only one. I see them later but by then the subject has changed, there is always so much to talk about. Good thing everyone here is easy going!

Lauren- I agree that you just let the bad vibes from sister roll away. You have such a nice life and a wonderful family, if she cannot be happy for you, it is her issue.

Aimeedyan- Welcome home!

Lindsay- I agree that it is a blessing that your DH has you cooking his meals now! After years of his mother's cooking he must think you walk on water.

Thank you all for the well wishes for Timmy, he has grown up so much in the short time he has been in year he has been serving.

I think we are going to have tomato sandwiches tonight. We have a lot of food left from last night, but DD and I went to the Garlic Farm for fresh garlic and she had her heirlooms ready. I would walk away from the best steak for these sweet things. They are but ugly but so good! Everyone but Buddy and me are at the Simpsons movie.

Hi everyone. I didn't post this morning because I was running around the house trying to get some last minute things done. I took our youngest DD to see Hairspray. She has been dying to go and she just got home from camp yesterday. Kenny was more than willing to stay home to watch our other DD. :rotfl:

Tonight, Kenny is doing steaks on the grill and the kids requested baked potatoes. Last night I made them pecan pie which they will have for dessert tonight.

I took our youngest DD to see Hairspray. She has been dying to go and she just got home from camp yesterday.

I just love John Travolta!!!!!

Today I made Paula Deen's Chocolate Almond Pie, which Tarheel Tink posted here. It's setting up in the frig, it has to be the "easiest" pie I've ever made!:thumbsup2

Nancy - I've been meaning to ask you about that horrible, heinous crime that took the lives of that poor man's wife and daughters. Is that anywhere near you? It brings me to tears whenever I hear it on the news.:sad1:
