Cheshire is about an hour downstate from here. It was pretty awful. That poor family :sad1:.

I will be glad to send my sister your way...I just don't understand...after so many years that I just don't wanna hear her BS especially when she is kind of bad mouthing me and my family..."Why do you do this"..."Why is he doing that", "Why don't you work"...that's the jist...I told her to MYOB and hung upon her. Just because I am the "baby" does not mean she can tell me what to do. I am an adult and my husband takes great care of us. She is jealous for some reason...I am venting. OK, I feel better!!! :)

Tell your sister that you do have a full time job...it's called being a wife and mother, and it's the most important job you could have right now!

Hi, everyone! Sorry I was AWOL the last day and a half. DH worked from home, which meant he got the computer and I didn't. Grrrr! Oh well.

Yesterday, we took the kids to Alan's work summer party. They had bought a theater showing Harry Potter 5, so we all went to see that, and then they sponsored a bbq for everyone. It wasn't wonderful food (hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken), but it was filling. It was nice to spend the afternoon/evening with the kids and not come out poorer than when we started!

Today, my 10 year old DD and I had a mother/daughter day. It was time for the "facts of life" talk with her. It went well, and then we spent the rest of the day shopping for school clothes, and going to lunch at a local buffet. It was nice, and she took "the talk" quite well. Glad I don't have to give it again for another 5 years!!!

I have no idea what's for dinner tonight, as DH was supposed to plan something. Unfortunately, he's been immersed in HP all day, and nothing is cooking here at 6:00. I sense a run for Chinese, or pizza.

I have never understood why people think a woman who stays home to care for the family doesn't work!!!!!!!

And so you survived the "talk" as well?

I'm sorry, I was not very attentive yesterday as I just saw two posts that Lauren responded to that I totally missed.

Lauren - I'm glad you're not letting your sister get to you, she's not worth the worrying.:sad2: And thanks for pointing out the things that I missed yesterday!;)

WFD tonight - Omaha steaks and King Crab Legs!!YUMMMMMMMO!

I got your back sista! I always miss alot so I am kind of glad that I could be of help to you!!! :)

King Crab Legs...yum!!!

I'm back from camp! I am too lazy to read through a weeks worth of posts so let me know if I missed something exciting =)

Welcome back! I can't think of anything too exciting and I know its hard to catch up...I seem to never catch up...we're a very chatty group...:)

Hi everyone! Hope that the weekend is off to a good start for all of you. I have good news, the guy at the package store was able to order the Rosa Regale and so I went in today to pick some up.

Kathy- don't feel badly about missing posts, I do it all the time but thought that I was the only one. I see them later but by then the subject has changed, there is always so much to talk about. Good thing everyone here is easy going!

Lauren- I agree that you just let the bad vibes from sister roll away. You have such a nice life and a wonderful family, if she cannot be happy for you, it is her issue.

Thank you all for the well wishes for Timmy, he has grown up so much in the short time he has been in year he has been serving.

I think we are going to have tomato sandwiches tonight. We have a lot of food left from last night, but DD and I went to the Garlic Farm for fresh garlic and she had her heirlooms ready. I would walk away from the best steak for these sweet things. They are but ugly but so good! Everyone but Buddy and me are at the Simpsons movie.

I hope you're enjoying your Rosa now!!!

Thank God we're easy going...I miss alot as well!

I will keep Timmy in my prayers.

Sis called me today and left a message. She didnt apologize but hopes I'm not mad...:confused3 ...I have to wait to call her back or else my temper will get the best of me.

Tomatoes here are still horrible...waiting patiently (trying to) for good ones!

Hi everyone. I didn't post this morning because I was running around the house trying to get some last minute things done. I took our youngest DD to see Hairspray.

No movie review??? :)

I just love John Travolta!!!!!

Today I made Paula Deen's Chocolate Almond Pie, which Tarheel Tink posted here. It's setting up in the frig, it has to be the "easiest" pie I've ever made!:thumbsup2

oh boy, guess I gotta look up that recipe!!! ;)

That was horrible. Unbelievable. :sad2:

Tell your sister that you do have a full time job...it's called being a wife and mother, and it's the most important job you could have right now!

You are totally right and after working hard to support and Andrew and I for 8 years I am blessed to be home. She was home when her son was younger...how soon people forget. Thank you!

So glad you had a good day. I have had to have that talk with A already because kids were talking on the bus...:confused3

Thank you! Like I said above, I feel very blessed now. I cannot figure people out.

We are supposedly going out with a group from church tonight so we will probably be going out for dinner. Not sure yet. I picked up a Digourno pizza just in case :)

WFD at your house?

ETA: Dinner at MILs house was as expected, though she didn't add the Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce to the hamburgers. They were stone cold though. And the homemade ice cream.......bless her heart. I honestly don't know how you can screw up homemade ice cream, but she did, and not the first time.

She decided to add Hershey's chocolate syrup to the mix. It never froze. It was like eating a sticky semi-Frosty from Wendy's.

JT did a really good job with the role. It was almost over when DD looked at me and asked, eyes wide, "Is that a man in that dress?!?" I told her yes, and that I would explain after the movie. Because of her age, I simply told her that it had become a tradition over the years for a man to play that part and that now the audience expects it. Like a woman of the world, she said, "ok" and went on about her business.

I agree about the pie. I made it once and it was really easy and my chocolate lover, DS really enjoyed it.

I saw the father on the news and my heart was breaking. My prayers are with the surviving family.

Horrible, just horrible. I cannot imagine the pain of that poor family.

The movie was very good and I didn't feel at all uncomfortable with our youngest DD with me. The adult situations/references were very mild and the references were obscure enough that they all went right over her head. There might have been a couple of profanities, but I don't remember them and there wasn't anything that made me cringe. She really enjoyed it and I did too. It was well worth the admission.

You have been blessed. I would love to be at home for our children, but Kenny started a new business and working out of the home is in my future for at least the next few years. However, I have never understood why other people (especially family and/or other women) feel the need to make judgments on the decisions of others. :confused3 It completely baffles me. Hang in there with your sister and ignore her when possible.

As others said yesterday, at least DH won't ever be eating something you prepared and say "I like the way my mother made this better." :lmao: :lmao: Small comfort for having to eat a nasty dinner, but take your comfort where you can in situations like this. ;)

Tonight we are having burgers done on the grill with steak fries. Hopefully Kenny will do a better job than Lindsay's MIL. :rolleyes1

Enjoy the Rosa!!!!

:worship: :worship: I was blessed to have the best of both worlds. I've worked part-time for 26 years and have been able to do all the things full-time Mom's do. The Mom job is by far the hardest job on earth and it gets harder when they become know-it-all teenagers.

Tonight for dinner I'm trying Ina Garten's recipe - Roast Chicken with Lemon & Garlic, macaroni & cheese and a big salad! YUMMY!!!!

I saw the father on the news and my heart was breaking. My prayers are with the surviving family.

It is amazing how this family has handled all of the pain and the coverage of their tragedy with such grace and kindness. I am in awe of their Faith, that must be what is getting them through this.

I hope you're enjoying your Rosa now!!!

Thank you! Like I said above, I feel very blessed now. I cannot figure people out.

I am opening it tonight :thumbsup2

You are blessed because of the way you live your life. You know what they are, and some people never recognize them :confused3. That is the difference and why you are happy and she is on the outside looking in.

She decided to add Hershey's chocolate syrup to the mix. It never froze. It was like eating a sticky semi-Frosty from Wendy's.

Tough night!

I made the pie as well and we all enjoyed it. I think I made a graham cracker crust with brown sugar when I made it.

My first H used to say that all of the time and his mother would give me the recipe which I totally screwed up. She would then say '"Oh, I'll just make it for you, at least it will come out right." :headache: It took me years to figure out that she never could share a recipe and get it right becasue she would forget steps unless she was making it.

This is one of the major rules I made for me not to do to Erica.

I think we are having sausage and peppers today. I have some fresh Walla Walla onions, fresh garlic and lots of peppers that came from Erica garden, and the rain is supposed to be around this afternoon, so cooking in the house is going to have to be what we do.

:faint: As a card carrying member of the "Easy Club", what were you thinking?? You buy the crust already made!!:lmao: :lmao:

:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Kathy, since I cannot make a conventional pie crust to save my life I try to make the easy ones. I generally forget to have any premade graham crusts on hand, but I always have graham crackers that are going to get stale hanging around.

OK, you're still in!:rotfl2:

Good morning! I've haven't watched the news all weekend, so I've missed what happened to that family. I'll have to go search the "net" later.

Yesterday I defrosted my freezer in the garage and reorganized it. It looks so bare, but I can find stuff now.:thumbsup2

I'm off to search for a new recipe I'm in the mood to be creative today.

Here's what I decided on so far Herbed Baked Potatoes
Submitted by Heather DeGraff (PA)

Ingredients
4 medium baking potatoes
Butter spray
1 - 2 tsp. Garlic Garlic™
1 - 2 tsp. Spinach & Herb Dip Mix
Salt and pepper to taste

Directions
Clean potatoes and poke with fork. Lay out 4 squares of aluminum foil. Spray foil with generous amount of butter spray, Garlic Garlic™, Spinach & Herb Dip Mix and salt and pepper. Roll potato in mixture; wrap tightly in foil. Bake at 350° for about

(In case you can tell this in from tastefully simple)

Asian Beef Skewers

3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons sherry
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon barbeque sauce
2 green onions chopped
2 cloves garlic minced
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger root
1 1/2 pounds flank steak

1 In a small bowl, mix together hoisin sauce, sherry, soy sauce, barbeque sauce, green onions, garlic and ginger.

2 Cut flank steak across grain on a diagonal, yielding thin, 2 inch wide slices. Place slices in a 1 gallon, resealable plastic bag. Pour hoisin sauce mixture over slices, and mix well. Refrigerate 2 hours, or overnight.

3 Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat.

4 Thread steak on skewers. Grill 3 minutes per side, or to desired doneness.

Note: Hoisin sauce, also called Peking sauce, is a thick, reddish-brown sauce that is sweet and spicy, and widely used in Chinese cooking. It's a mixture of soybeans, garlic, chile peppers and various spices. It can be found in Asian markets and many large supermarkets. Look in the Asian or ethnic section. If this item is not in stock at your local store, ask your grocer to special order it for you. Most grocers will be happy to do this for their customers.

Makes 3 servings

I have been too busy to get on the computer this weekend, but I caught up on the posts and everybody has been doing some good cooking! Here is Friday's dinner--the spaghetti:

Yesterday Laura and the kids came over, and I made antipasto--it's not a real antipasto, just a bunch of Italian stuff that I felt like making. Garlic-scented tomato and mozzarella salad:

If you look to the right of the plate you can see the fritatta that I made--my pictures of the whole fritatta did not come out.

Today we are heading to the in-laws for dinner. Hopefully they won't be ordering Chinese food! Bleech!

And so you survived the "talk" as well?

Yes, I survived. Of course, Katie put 2 and 2 together when she remembered that I just had a miscarriage, and then I got the Ewwwwww look from her!

Happy Sunday, everyone! It's a beautiful day here!!! I'm getting the kids ready to go to church in about an hour, so I'll be gone for a while.

While I'm gone, I've got chicken breasts marinating in a lime herb sauce and DH will grill them when we get home. I'm also making summer squash to go along with the chicken.

For dessert, we're going to have more homemade ice cream (dreamsicle flavor, yum!), and peanut butter cookies!

Here's what I decided on so far Herbed Baked Potatoes

Asian Beef Skewers

Sounds great, let us know how it is!:goodvibes

I have been too busy to get on the computer this weekend, but I caught up on the posts and everybody has been doing some good cooking! Here is Friday's dinner--the spaghetti:

You continue to amaze me! Could you share the recipes for the eggplant, cheesy bread, asparagus and lamb chops whenever you have time?:)

Could you share the recipes for the eggplant, cheesy bread, asparagus and lamb chops whenever you have time?:)

Here are a few of them, while I wait for DH to be ready to leave (we are having haddock, not Chinese food, hooray!)

Asparagus-Fontina Bundles

30 spears of asparagus, washed, peeled, and trimmed
8 ounces italian fontina cheese
6 thin slices proscuitto de parma
1 tbsp. butter

Oven 400 degrees.

Divide the fontina into seven equal piles.

Lay the proscuitto out flat, and top each piece with five spears of asparagus. Lay the one pile of cheese on each bundle, then wrap the proscuitto tightly around. Smear the butter into a baking dish, then lay the bundles into the dish, nestling them tightly together. Top the bundles with the remaining cheese, then bake for 20 minutes.

Eggplant cutlets with tomato-onion compote

2 lbs eggplant, washed, kept whole
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1/4 cup parsley, finely minced
1/3 cup plain dry breadcrumbs (you might need a little more)
1/4 cup freshly grated parmesean cheese
salt and pepper to taste

Roast the eggplant in a 400 degree oven until throughroughly tender, about 40 minutes. Allow to col until you can handle it, then peel and cut into large cuhnks. Place the chunks in a colander and allow to drain for about 15 minutes.

Squueze the eggplant flesh to help get more of the liquid out, then mince very finely. Combine the eggplant with the reaminig ingredients and shape into 2" patties.

Heat 2 tbsp. olive oil in a nonstick pan and saute the eggplant patties until browned on both sides. Serve with tomato onion compote

Tomato onion compote
1 1/2 cups onion, thinly sliced
1 1/2 cups chopped canned tomatoes
1/4 cup basil, sliced into ribbons
1/3 cup olive oil
salt and pepper to taste

Fry the onion in the olive oil until quite golden. Add the tomatoes, salt, and pepper, and simmer until the oil floats free from the tomatoes, about 20 minutes. Stir in the basil, check the seasonings, and serve.

Grilled lamb chops

Double thick rib chops, at room temperature
salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste

Season the lamb chops with the salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

Make sure the grill is quite clean, and then heat your grill to a medium fire, then grill the chops, turning once, 3 1/2 minutes per side for rare to medium rare.

I'll put up the bread later, have to go to the inlaws! :)
