I experienced something really said today and wanted to share...we had a late lunch today (Tom decided he may want to trade in our car so it screwed up my day) at the local pizza place that we like. Its a family run tavern...the BEST pizza!!!

We were leaving and saw a little boy in a hot car by himself!!!!!!!!!! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: The windows were cracked and it looked like he was trying to hand a blanket in the window for shade...like he has been in the car by himself before!!! This got me riled up and we waited for a few minutes to see it anyone came out...no one. Well, I am a really confrontational person and if I approached these dumb a** people, I would have punched them....it was 84 - 90 degrees today. Needless to say, we called the police.

We checked back at the scene to make sure the cops came and saw the people who did this (we live around the block)...they were sitting right next to us in the restaurant with NO view of their car!!!! WTH????

Thank God the boy was safe...I just had to share. It was really pathetic. People are so stupid.

Oh, we didn't trade our car in. It would work out to be about the same payments so it didn't make sense.

I am babbling!

IDIOTS!!! Thank goodness you called the police! I hope the parents not only got in trouble but became educated about how stupid their actions were!

We were just finishing up our pizza when these stupid people came into the restaurant...they were there 15 minutes and then we left. The kicker is, they didn't even sit at a table where this child could sit if he came in and never checked on him while we were there.

AND, the restaurant is right on an exit to a major highway. What if the child got out and got killed.

It looked like the cops went and got them out of the place, talked to them for a while and the people were allowed to leave. I am not sure if they got some kind of appearance ticket to go before a judge but they should have.

OK, WFD...I have no idea. I never made the steak yesterday so maybe that and I'll slice it for sandwiches. I also have chicken breast in there that I could marinate and grill with teriyake sauce.

Oh, such decisions.

I feel bad. We slept through church this morning. Last week too. I usually wake up early so I do not set the alarm...guess thats a no no from now on.

I don't understand some people! We just had a grandmother here in Utah charged with manslaughter for the death of her 2 year old grandson. She left him in the car while she ran into the store "just for a minute." She didn't leave the car on, so it got very hot. It's been triple digits here lately, so they are estimating that the temp in the car got up to about 124-128 degrees. Poor baby!

I couldn't wait to post in order this time! I saw this one, or one like it, the news yesterday and add that to Lauren's story I am just sickened! The GM said she "forgot" the baby!!!!!!!!! How does anyone forget a baby or leave a child in the car while the adults eat?

In January we went to Disney as a family. My DGD had been twice but the arrival and getting on ME is still exciting. We were on the bus and a family got on, obviously a second marriage or "second family", Mom, Dad, baby and a little girl maybe 4. Mom, Dad and baby in one set of seats and they send the little one down a few seats to sit with me. A man offered to get up and let the little one sit behind them, they declined. This little girl was terrified and trying not to cry, she had a little bunny and told me she used it so she would not cry. My heart was breaking for this baby. First trip to the most Magical Place on Earth and a stranger is hugging her and trying to help bring this Fairyland to life :sad1:. I have to say that Buddy and I kept looking for this child becasue I could not get her face out of my mind. Buddy had Kady and she had been chattering about her favorite characters, and this little one had me and it was so sad because we wanted to just keep her.

Lauren- thank God you called the police, I hope these cretins get the book thrown at them!

Thank you all for the bathing suit sympathy. I think I just have to remember that I am not 25 anymore. You are all right, there are so many people there that you can't even worry about how you look, you are just looking at your own kids! Buddy looked like a lost soul, he is usually a water rat and is the one to play with the kids but they wanted to stay in the pool, filled with untold amounts of people. He could not get past so many people mostly kids all swimming in the pool and visualizing a ton of them not bothering to run to the restroom:eek:. He was at the edge of the pool, offering to hold towels, life jackets anything to keep from dipping even one toe in that water :rotfl2:, and this is a man who was raised one a farm!

Becky- I am glad that you are feeling better. I do have to tell you that your meals when you are ill look better than mine when I am well:lmao:

Kathy- Your men had the right idea....take you to dinner to help get your mind off putting your boy on the bus :thumbsup2. I supervised field trips and never lost a child...lost a Mom one time....she ditched her group and took off, but that does not count, she was over 21.

Lauren- you are my kind of camper :thumbsup2. When I started dating Buddy I asked him if he liked to camp...he said No...so I went out with him. :thumbsup2

Lauri- Keep posting, please and if you like, share some of your recipes :thumbsup2. We are always looking for new ideas.

aimeedyan- Lately I never make what I post. It is starting to become an issue when my girls check the menu and come home to something else :rotfl:

Hersey- I am going to try the bread, like I need yet another way to get my Irish self full of bread and potatoes ;)

This is infuriating! That poor child, what should have been an exciting day for her turned into a nightmare. I guess some people don't have a clue as to what parenting is all about.:sad2:

Tonight's dinner will be King Crab legs, boiled cajun style with garlic/butter dipping sauce, roasted red potatoes and corn.

My boy just left last night and I'm already missing him.:sad1:

Wendie- I am so sorry that your family is having such a tough time lately. :grouphug: I know that your GM is is good hands with you and Kris, but it is hard to watch an elderly woman go through that kind of trauma. I am praying for your Mom and Dad. Parenting aside, it is clear you love her and want her well. Try to remember we are here if you need us.

As to the Martyr In Law.......no words here....:confused3

I cleaned out all of my pantry cabinets today, my fridge, and my freezer. Still can't find anything I want for dinner and those babies were packed. Sigh. I'll throw something together.

Thank you for the kind words, and good thoughts for my mother......you guys are the best!!!:goodvibes My grandmother is a tough old bird.....she is just glad her bread pudding wasn't ruined, lol. To heck with the toe, just worry about the food......;)

Kathy- I am sure it will be a long week for you...we are here for you!!.....I was just sitting with Ross on the couch asking him when he grew up so fast and I had tears in my eyes.....he looked at me like I was nuts.........:rotfl:

Nancy- What a sad start for that little girl in the most magical place on earth....thank goodness she had you to sit with, she was better off there then with her own family it seems.

Lauren- You are a better camper then I am...even the idea of a tent would never cross my mind, backyard or not.............my idea of camping is Pop Century....no room service. We are going away in a few weeks to Bar Harbor and we will Hike during the day, but at night I want my hotel to have a balcony on the ocean and room service bringing me drinks.....

Dinner tonight will be ranch and onion pork chops, with brussel sprouts and corn along with a side of rice.

:grouphug: to all my WFD friends who are having a hard time right now.

WFD? I was really looking forward to a big grilled chicken salad, but it looks like we'll be going to BIL's new house for hot dogs. They have a really nice pool so DS is thrilled. I just hope it doesn't rain again. We went up there last week to swim and couldn't because of a thunderstorm.

No cooking here today! My DS has invited everyone to his home for swimming and then hot dogs (I think) on the grill. He has no furniture though, so they have to sit on the floor. I passed the invitation, DH and I are just going to relax and have what ever we find in the fridge. DD is picking up some crusty bread for us to have with an artichoke dip for a snack later with a glass of wine.

Maybe today is the day I break open my little, I mean very little, bottle of Rosa. WE don't have it around here so I have been saving it.

Thanks Wendie. I can picture the look on Ross' face now!:rotfl2: On the camping issue - I think we are twins separated at birth, I freak out when the electricity goes out for an hour!

Do you have a recipe for the ranch & onion pork chops to share?

Yum!!!!:cloud9:

Here you go Kathy----this is super super easy. I love a recipe that you don't have to be exact on amounts with when I am busy.

Ranch and Onion Pork Chops
I use bone in or boneless depends what is in the deep freeze.

Melt two-three tablespoons of butter and mix in one packet of ranch dressing in wide mouth dish
coat both sides of pork chops in ranch then coat both sides of chops in crushed French's french fried onions. (the same kind that goes on green bean casserole)
I then either bake or broil depending on my mood and time frame.

We are going out to eat with my ILs after church, so no cooking for me today. If we get hungry, we have leftovers from last night we can eat.

WFD at your house?

ETA: Hey Glynis, I got a ton of compliments about your roast last night. My trainer's husband is not a huge roast fan, but he dug into it like there was no tomorrow. I said to him, "You like it, ok?" He looked up at me, shook his head, and said, "It's not my mother's." I busted out laughing! THAT'S why he wasn't a big roast fan! :lmao:

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm glad it was a big hit!!!

Don't know WFD tonight. DH got called out on a fire last night, and he hasn't come back yet. He called to let me know he's ok, but won't be relieved until 3:00 this afternoon, and then he has to go to the eastern part of the state to do a fishing story. He won't really be home until Tuesday night. Guess the kids and I may do KFC. We got some coupons in the mail, and today might be the time to use them!

Help, I'm looking for buckylarue's Baked Zucchini and Tomato Casserole recipe. The first post shows it on page 597, but I can't find it.

Nevermind, I found it on page 596

Thanks Liamandcali, Formrcastmbr and Nancyg56 for your warm welcome :) We are having seafood salad for supper tonight.

I'm so sorry I missed your post. Welcome to our thread, we have a great group of cooks here and I look forward to sharing recipes with you!!!! Seafood salad sounds great!

I can't decide what to have for dinner tonight. It's so hot out today I don't want anything warm.

I sometimes make a big salad and top it with some grilled chicken. It is so good!

Another warm weather go to dinner is my version of a spinach salad from Bertuccis.

Saute some garlic and chopped sun dried tomatoes in olive oil
Add some chopped fresh tomatoes or some bruschetta ( my choice) to make a light sauce
Toss with cooked gemelli pasta and toss in some baby spinach and store bought rotisserie chicken

top with Parmesan cheese.

This is so easy and so good. The colors are pure summer and it is light enough to have for a meal hot or at room temperature.
