We (I) think of you as a lot of fun. And if you find that eraser, send it to me when you're done, ok? Pretty please.

You're right. It would be worse after a month. It has almost been long enough for me to forget how stinky the fridge and freezer were after hurricane Hugo. And we weren't gone an entire month. I can't imagine the mold and mildew and other gross things that greeted you on your return home. :scared:

Good luck with the cookout tomorrow. Our tomorrow plan is BBQ chicken made with my Daddy's vinegar based sauce so it isn't too fattening. Notice how I failed to mention the brown (greasy) rice my Mom makes or the squash casserole I'm supposed to bring. As my DSisIL says, "I love almost any food that will make my lips shiny." Maybe that is why my rear end could use its own zip code. :rotfl2:
If I find it, I'll send it to ya- along with a lime green boa! Why should I be doing all the (ahem) "cooking"?

And DH is a huge Simpsons fan. Homer says "if I rub it on something and it makes it clear, it's good food".

Cravings haven't been as bad as I thought they'd be, but I caved and had steak last week. That was interesting. But for the last cookout over there I looked at some of the nutrition labels. Sam's Club 1/4 lb hamburgers- 26g fat BEFORE the cheese. Sam's potato salad-17g fat in 1/4 cup. Yeah, thanks anyway. But we always go over for the cookouts- so I asked my friend Joey(who's the manager) if he minded if I brought something over. No problemo! So, I'm doing tuna steaks (with my BW3 terriaki sauce-since wings are a no-no now) and a cuke/tomato/feta salad. Maybe we won't feel TOO left out. But yeah, a huge hunk of cheeseburger with juices dripping and ketchup and mayo sounds like bliss...:cloud9:

Where's that darn fat eraser?!?:goodvibes

Nancy - Dinner was wonderful! Kyle's GF was here and the girl can eat - not much left!!

Hey Wendie - where are you?????

Sandy - Are you OK?

I'm glad you liked it. It is a favorite here.

Kathy, you are so good about making sure everyone is around and alright . There are some days I sure wish you were closer.

Dole Whips with a rum sidecar?!?

Not tonight. Everyone is having the punch, but I may just slip a little rum in my own :rolleyes1, and let the rest of the family run for cover :rotfl2:

Send one to me as well, if you please. I don't seem to manage to change my cooking habits very well.....

"my own zip code" :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I'm making Shepard's Pie...quick and easy!

My family loves Shepard's Pie. I make it whenever I am a little miffed with my DH. Sometimes I think that they may set the poor guy up ;)

Lori- you are so much fun!

Dinner tonight will be Strawberry Pork Chops. We love this recipe, and since my strawberry plants are overproducing, I need to use them up! I'm thinking we'll have steamed broccoli and some kind of noodle dish on the side. Watermelon for dessert!

Still don't know what we're doing tomorrow. I was going to make American Flag pizzas for dinner with Firecracker cupcakes for dessert, but now DH is talking about taking us all up the mountain for a day of fishing (him and the kids), and reading/relaxing (me). That means he would pamper me with some Dutch Oven chicken and potatoes. I could really go for that about now! Great comfort food, and DH is great at Dutch Oven cooking!!! Either way, we'll come home for root beer floats and brownies while we watch fireworks. That's a tradition that the kids just won't do without!

Can you post the recipe for teh pork chops? We love them and I m always looking for new ways to cook them.

I think a day in the mountains is just what you need. :thumbsup2 Reading and relaxing and enjoying good food that DH cooked sounds perfect.

I just had to add that you kill me with your menus for the holidays. I would like to be the kind of Nana who comes up with special items but I thought I was doing good with the res white and blue jello. :rotfl:

I think my fridge is dying. I reached in this morning for my wake up caffeine - diet coke, the breakfast of exhausted mothers and it was warm. I was not a pleasant person this morning until I got to the store for a cold diet coke.

Hubby is trying to figure out the problem, but it looks like I will be cleaning out the fridge tonight.

I hope it turns out to be a minor problem.

I'm making Glynis' potato salad tonight! I'm so excited to try it.

It's so good. Try heating up a small bowl - it's incredible!!

I see now how everyone thinks of me!:rolleyes1 ;) :lmao: Read the quote people....I'm only drawn bad....now if I could only find that eraser and undraw 50lbs........

That's your story and you're stickin to it, huh?

Words cannot describe how bad it was. I NEVER want to smell that again in my lifetime!

I love DSisIL comment - that's too funny!:rotfl2:

I guess I'm kinda like a sheep herder tending to my flock!

Sure. I'll post the recipe! It's one of my favorites!!!

I love to make the holidays fun for my family. My hope is that when they're grown and gone, they'll remember all the fun times and good food, and forget the times that I yell like a banshee! I forgot to mention that I'm doing the jell-o thing, too. I've got red and blue jell-o setting up. Tomorrow I'll cube it up and put it inside bowls that are lined with Cool Whip Free. Yummy!!! And it's sugar free so I can enjoy some, too!!

Strawberry Pork Chops

3/4 C. raspberry vinaigrette
2 Tbsp. chopped green onions
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. dried rosemary, crushed
1/2 to 1 tsp. pepper
4 bone-in pork chops
1 Tbsp. canola oil
2 C. sliced strawberries

In a small bowl, combine the vinaigrette, onion, brown sugar, paprika and Worcestershire sauce; set aside. Combine rosemary and pepper; rub over both sides of chops.

In a large skillet, cook chops in oil over medium-high heat for 5 to 6 minutes on each side or until browed. Pour vinaigrette mixture over meat; cook 3 to 4 minutes longer or until juices run clear.

Remove chops and keep warm. Add strawberries to the cooking juices and toss to coat; serve with pork chops.

We're having meatloaf and baked potatoes with cucumber salad and steamed green beans. Meatloaf is a dangerous meal because we always fight over the ends!

:rotfl: We always did too, but since I tried Glynis' pizza meatloaf muffins I've decided that's the way I'm going to do meatloaf every time, that way everyone gets the ends!!

We used to fight over the ends, but now I only make mini meatloaves...every piece is "the end" piece!

It seems like quite a few people here deal with MILs who can't cook. Did our husbands marry us for the better food?

The kids won the food battle today. I wanted barbecued chicken, potato salad and eggplant sticks. They didn't want to go to the grocery store again and wanted noodles. Fine, so we had pasta. I made a tomato, basil cream sauce for mine that was pretty good.

Beck complains that I don't take enough food pics, but that is mostly due to my poor camera quality. Here is a blurry one anyway:

Have a safe and happy 4th everyone!

See, that's what I mean. Mine went into a large bowl. No individual servings in my house. When the kids were young my sister and I used to make and decorate all kinds of cakes and cupcakes for every holiday. We sent them to school and to every one we knew. I wonder if they remember?

Have a safe and happy 4th everyone!

This is my first DH Mother and she used to be able to cook, but no more. I used to try to make my DH favorites and she would give me the recipe. She always left out a step or an ingredient. :confused3 I used to think it was on purpose but now I think she just did not remember how she made things she just did it. Now it is all pretty bad so I usually have all of the family gatherings here.

Your Pic's are beautiful!

I would guess that is true. I have many recipes that have been handed down to me, and when I make them, despite following the recipes exactly, they do not turn out right. I know there are missing steps, or precise instructions. For example, one recipe says "Cook in moderate oven." Um, yeah, like I know what that means!

Our grocery store didn't have blueberries, so I was only able to make a raspberry tart (I used aluminum pie plates so I don't have to worry about trying to get them back) to bring to the houses we are visiting tomorow.

It took a lot of restraint to not eat one of these tonight. We did each take a small scoop of filling, a bit of extra crust, and one raspberry, just to make sure it was okay :)

I would have had to eat one tonight!!!!!!!!

hey ya'll! I have been a cooking fool this summer-made lasagna, roast rice and gravy, pork chops with potatoes and onions, shrimp fettucini, etc. During the school year I just lack the oomph to do all this every day. I need to change my ways!! I am saving money(hardly any FF this summer at all) and eating good. We start school in 2 weeks!

Hotdogs and chili tomorrow!

Happy 4th!!!

Lori

Sounds good! Are your kids in year round school? After the day I had today, I'm all for having my kids in school year round!

Well, the plans for tomorrow have changed!

DH is taking the kids fishing in the early morning. That means I get to sleep in and have some quiet in the morning!!! Hooray!!! In the early afternoon, we'll take the kids to see a movie (either Charlotte's Web at the dollar theater, or Ratatouille), early evening is a bbq with DH's brother and family. They are marinating turkey breasts in soy sauce and Squirt soda pop, and they'll grill them tomorrow. I'm making my potato salad and cupcakes to go along with it. We'll make some homemade ice cream and root beer floats and brownies for the fireworks. Haven't decided yet whether we'll stay home for our own fireworks, or go to Thanksgiving Point to see the HUGE display there. I'd like to, but it will be a madhouse getting home. The fireworks usually end around 11:00, and it would take us another hour to hour and a half to get the 10 miles back home.

I've made a batch of blueberry muffins for breakfast, and there's a batch of cherry muffins in the oven now. The cherry are an experiment, so we'll see how they turn out.

Have a great Fourth of July, everyone!

Sounds like you have an awesome day and night planned - you deserve every minute of it!! Have a great time!!

Ok, Lindsay, you wanted to know how the muffin recipe is when used with cherries. Here is DH's opinion: INCREDIBLE!!! I have to agree. I used frozen dark cherries and 1/2 cup cherry pie filling. They are a pretty pink color, and the flavor is spectacular. I think I almost like them more than the blueberry ones.

I may have to try peach and mixed berries, next.
