Sorry for all the family style dishes instead of the plated dinner, but you know I told you that 'certain people' are annoyed by my picture taking. It is easier to grab photos of the dishes as they come into the kitchen/off the grill.

Hi, ladies! It's been a few days since I've posted. I am glad to see you guys are still doing well and making yummy things! despite the interference of a certain young wizard!:wizard:

My dad bought the book. He loves HP, so I will borrow it when he's done. I can wait, since I'm so busy w grad school anyway.

I hope it will not offend any of my beautiful NOLA friends on here, but I made a gumbo-inspired sausage and rice skillet. Basically green peppers, onions, garlic and okra with turkey sausage, canned tomatoes, brown rice and some spices.

I also made a Weight Watchers recipe - chocolate zucchini cake! (Tons of okra, zucchini and tomatoes coming out of my yard! We have 8 LARGE zucchini on the counter just this weekend!)

I always wonder what real gumbo tastes like, though. I've found "authentic" recipes, but I cannot get file powder around here, so I figure it will never be just right.

I'll let you know how it all turns out. Should be done in 5 minutes. :)

I leave tomorrow for camp! I will be there all week so DH is making his grocery list of what he wants to make while I'm gone.

I'll check back in next weekend and hopefully we'll be back to eating at home some =)

I hope you have a great time!

You definitely don't need file for a good gumbo, I started out with Paul Prudhomme's recipes for both seafood and chicken gumbos and have adapted them to our tastes. I tried to google them and paste a link, but there's so many I thought you'd like to check it out yourself. Just google Paul Prudhomme gumbo and have fun!

Becky - I don't care how many pics it takes to show the entire meal, just keep 'em coming! The clams and both fish dishes looked AMAZING!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Kathy- I hope that you feel better soon. What a rough go you have had with this!!! Glad you found the sbr, but if your store stops getting it let me know and I would be more then happy to send you some again!!

Lori--Ross is just dying to see the pictures of your HP night!! He has put you on the top 10 of cool people he "knows" lol!!

Friday we ended up going to the late dinner at a fav local rest. "The Lobster Trap" then to the late show of the HP movie, which ended at midnight, and then we hopped over to Walmart, getting there at 12:05...they stopped us at the door and said they were closed...and Ross doing his very best puppy dog eyes, said "please maam' just one more book?!!?" Needless to say he walked out at 12:08 with book in hand, along with posters, bookmarks and cake from the store clerk, lol. He is 3/4 through and would have been finished had he not spent the day with Kris on the couch playing video games, lol.
He starts theater camp tomorrow, so it will have to be read before he leaves in the morning, and after he gets home in the evening, lol. (I put money that he is done by Tues morning, lol)

My mother has been moved out of ICU, and into a regular room, though she is scheduled for a bone marrow test on Monday. My father is a wreck as he doesn't know what the next step will be if they release her from the hospital, as he can't care for her at home, and he doesn't know how to do the whole nursing home etc route. I will spend tomorrow on the phone with the social worker at the hospital she is in to figure things out for him.

Kris has been on the couch all weekend in a leg imobilizer trying to get his bursitis to get better. He goes back to work tomorrow, so hopefully it doesn't get worse, he can put it up at his desk when he is at it, but he is on the move quite a bit around his office during the day, and at job sites at night.

Friday night Kris and I had lobster rolls, and Ross had chicken strips.
Sat we ate at longhorns, and we all had steak and ribs, and tonight we had
SBR grilled boneless/skinless chicken breasts along with cukes and rolls.
Dessert was the rest of the Strawberry Angel Cake

One box of angel food cake mix and one can of fruit pie filling mixed together and cooked for 30 min. in a 13x9 pan at 350.

Hope all had a good day and enjoyed their weekend.....and those who were hanging with Harry enjoyed the book!!

Sorry to post a proud Mom moment, but this has to be the best yet! I wasn't there(home sick) but Kyle just pitched his first ever 9 inning complete game in legion ball. They defeated Brother Martin(his former team, who never gave him a shot at pitching)5-2. I think that was the final score. Johnny said there were at least 5 college scouts out there watching the game. I was on the phone with Johnny and a bunch of Mom's throughout the last three innings from my bed.

Sheryl - please pass this along to DH & SIL as they have been following Shaw(Timesaver) baseball!!!!!!!!!:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Yummo!! Would you mind posting the recipe for your summer squash dish? We are going to have tons of both in the next couple of weeks, and I'd like some new ways to prepare them! Thanks so much!!!

Kathy---Thank you for sharing your proud mom moment!!! Way to go Kyle!!!! Whooo Hoooooo!!!! He must have been sooo excited to have that "in your face" moment to his old team!!!!!! Please tell him congrats from me!!!!
Now you get better and everything will be on track!!!

Kathy- I'm sorry to see that your "flu" turned into a stomach virus. Hopefully today will find you feeling better. :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:for your Kyle! Nine innings is a long game to pitch.....but the win must have been the frosting on his cake. You know what they say about success???????

Wendie- I am with Ross...Lori is the coolest person I know as well. He must be so charming to be able to sweet talk his way into a closed store.

The social workers will set something up for your Mom. Your Dad cannot take care of her so they won't release her unless there is enough support. Perhaps there is a good rehab in the area so that she can get back on her feet at her own pace and your Dad can have peace of mind. I'm sure they both would prefer that she come straight home, but in the end she would probable get more therapy and support and her strength will return faster.
Let us know and please remember that you need to care for yourself as well.

I was trying to catch up fast this morning and read that Kris was in a leg monster!!!!!!!!!!

Lulu- will you post the recipe for the cake. We love zucchini cake.
Kudos to you for trying to make a gumbo. I am intimidated by it so I never tried.

Becky- I don't mind if "You know who" wants pictures taken before plating. As long as you and Laura post pics, I'll take them any way.

I know I missed a lot more. We went to the pond (Can't call it a lake, apparently there is a distinction???????) for a picnic. WE had tradition cook out food, hot dogs, potato salad and macaroni salad, chips and doodles, pepperoni and cheese, cookies and brownies.

Our neighbors joined us and she made a yummy summer squash casserole and some brownies. Good thing about the brownies, I made some forgot the eggs and they turned out like rocks.

Morning all. Not sure WFD tonight--possible breakfast for dinner cuz' I've got some turkey breakfast sausage in the freezer. DD is going to VBS from 6:30-8:30 this week, so dinner will be fast.

Kathy--Congrats to Kyle!:yay: :yay: Are you feeling any better today?

Tonight will be Tom's Home/Balsamic Chicken, whole wheat pasta and some type of veggie...I needed something quick since I have a ton of laundry from being away.

I'll check back later...hope all is well!

My heart goes out to your Dad and you Wendie. As Nancy said the social workers will take everything into consideration and do what is best for everyone. Please update us later.

Thanks for the Congrats for Kyle, we are so very proud of him!

I'm feeling a bit better today and I need to get better fast, my only employee is on vacation this week so I have to get my butt to work tomorrow.

Lauren - Did you have fun?

It's Beans & Rice Monday here!

Have a great day everyone.

Wendie - Glad to hear your mother is out of ICU, but I know how stressful finding a nursing home is. I cannot imagine how much more stressful it is trying to figure it all out long distance. Good luck. I'll be thinking of you.

Kathy - :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: for Kyle. That is wonderful! I hate you weren't well enough to be there. But it sounds like you will be attending some college games somewhere to watch him play.

We ended up having dinner at the fondue place last night. Kenny actually admitted he enjoyed it and he wouldn't mind going back. However, my dinner did not agree with me at all. I haven't felt well since about 5 this morning. I hope it will pass soon. Although on the bright side, I won't be gaining any weight from last night's splurge. :sad2:

Tonight's dinner will be coca-cola BBQ chicken with garden peas and rice pilaf.

I do have a question for Nancy or Kathy (or anyone else). I bought some baby back ribs yesterday and I thought I remembered some posts from the two of you a while back where you made ribs and they turned out great. I'm too lasy to search for those posts. Could you tell me which recipe you used? Thanks.

Gretchen

OK, I just screwed up the multi quote thingy again...I hope I get everyone!!!

We had a good time in VT. It was a long drive just for Sat and Sun but I was glad to be there for my bro's bday. I think Tom was in culture shock when we went to the farm my SisIL works at. She is an organic cheese maker...yummy cheese...here is the website if you want to check it out.

Gretchen, hope you feel better....

Wendie, praying still for your family. I wish there was more than that I could do...

Good morning everyone! It's a beautiful, sunny day here in Utah. The weather is not as hot as it has been; high today will be 96 which is about 8 degrees cooler than yesterday!!!

First things first:

Dinner tonight will be fish stick marinara, with a green salad on the side! Yumm! I know the kids will eat it, as they love fish sticks any old way!!!

The dessert I made last night was super yummy! It was so easy, too! Here's the recipe:

Very Berry Pie

1 3/4 C. reduced-fat whipped topping, divided (I used Cool Whip Free)
1 reduced-fat graham cracker crust (8 inches)
1 C. fresh raspberries
1 C. fresh blueberries
1 Tbsp. Splenda
1 C. cold milk
1 pkg. (1 oz) sugar free instant white chocolate pudding mix

Spread 1/4 cup whipped topping into the crust. Combine berries and Splenda; spoon 1 cup over topping. In a bowl, whisk milk and pudding mix for 2 minutes; let stand for 2 minutes or until soft set. Spoon over berries. Spread with remaining whipped topping. Top with remaining berries. Refrigerate 45 minutes or until set.

Yield: 8 servings.

It was really yummy and quite refreshing on a hot day.

Stay tuned for Harry Potter pictures!!!

Well, the party was a huge success!

When the kids arrived at Platform 9 3/4, they were told to choose a wand:

Lesliechoosesawand.jpg

Then they had to try the Alohomora charm and if they were able to open the garage door, the wand was theirs to keep:

MarytriesAlohomora.jpg

Once everyone had a wand, and had them registered by Cornelius Fudge, the kids gathered around 2 Portkeys that had been set up to transport them to Hogwarts:

AroundthePortkey.jpg

Once there, they awaited the Sorting Ceremony:

WaitingfortheSortingHat.jpg

Beingsorted.jpg

They were given a colored ribbon to show what House they had been sorted into:

KatieinRavenclaw.jpg

Even a tiny Dumbledore had to be Sorted:

EvenDumbledoregotsorted.jpg

I just really like the look on Jacob's face in this picture:

Jacobgetssorted.jpg

Once sorted, Slytherin and Hufflepuff played a game of Quidditch. Sorry I don't have any pictures of that, I was using the video camera. Ravenclaw and Gryffindor played Petrificus Totalus (Freeze tag). Then they switched. Here's Jacob playing Petrificus Totalus:

JacobplaysPetrificusTotalus.jpg

As it got darker, it was time for the Great Feast:

Thefood.jpg

Kids pigged out on Meat Pasties, Pigs in a Blanket, Watermelon, Chips and Carrot sticks. They had their choice of Butterbeer, Pumpkin juice and water to drink. While they ate they could get their faces painted:

Facepainting.jpg

Eatingbeforethemovie.jpg

When it was dark, they showed Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. The kids could watch that, or go to the Room of Requirement to read the new book, or any of the others. There were several copies of all but the 7th book, and lots of pillows to lounge on.

It was so fun! As they got ready to leave, they were given a Honeduke's Candy shop bag loaded with goodies.

There were about 40 kids from our neighborhood there from age 2 to age 19. All of them had a great time!

one word yum
love the pics..those littlenecks look amazing! thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2

Glynis- Thank you for sharing the pictures!! What a fun time for all!!

Lauren- Glad you had a fun trip, even though it was a lot of driving. I had to laugh at the culture shock comment...Even for us, being from a very small Maine township, and very rural state, the first time we went to Vermont was even a bit for us, there was cows, barns, and cheese, lol.

Nancy- I sometimes read the posts to quick as well, and misread what other have written, thinking what the heck, lol. Sounds like you had a nice time by the "pond"!!

Kathy- I hope you are feeling much better by this afternoon!!

Thank you all again for the good thoughts......I tried to reach the social worker but she has Monday's off...WTH?? It is hard as I have no idea how the florida health care system works....I have been taking care of my grandparents for 12 years here in Maine, and it like the back of my hand here, I hope it works somewhat similiar....the only good thing is at least I know what to ask and what the answers mean......

Ross is off to theater camp this week...just day hours...9-4. He is doing two seperate weeks this year. They work all week, and then on Sat they put on a full scale production. This week is Jack and the Beanstalk.

Dinner tonight is Spag. with fresh sweet italian sausage I picked up from the farmers market and garlic bread.

Glynis- I love the pics. It looks like everyone had a great time! I wish I could have went! Those are some very creative parents.

Lori, I thought of you all night last night. Alan and I were on a date (IKEA to shop and have yummy meatballs!!!), and he got called by the TV station he works for. They needed him to cover Harry Potter mania and the midnight selling. I got to tag along!

We went to this tiny bookshop called The King's English, and it was incredible. They had roped off the entire block, and gotten all the businesses involved! The clothing boutique had been turned into Madame Malkins, there was The Hog's Head, Flourish and Blott's, Olivander's Wand Shoppe, etc. It was so cool! Kids were in costume, and there were lots of party activities; trivia games, costume contests, etc. We had a ball there!!! We spent from 10:00-11:00 there, and then went to Barnes and Noble. The line snaked around 2 blocks there, and fights were breaking out, and it got quite scary for a while. The police stepped in, and order was restored! What a wild night!!!
I'm glad you got to "help" cover the madness! I was second to get mine and then I was outta there! Between the presales and walk ups they were sold out of their 200 copies by 10ish(you bought tickets that were traded in at midnite). We had a great time just hanging out with everybody else all dressed up!

Ok guys don't get nervious if I go awol for a while I have a date with Harry (yes I know his younger but ;) )
Need some Magic Shell?;)

Lori--Ross is just dying to see the pictures of your HP night!! He has put you on the top 10 of cool people he "knows" lol!!
Wait no longer Ross! I finished the book Sunday morning. Read all through the night. I thought it was very good. And I'll stop talking about it there.;)

Wendie- I am with Ross...Lori is the coolest person I know as well. He must be so charming to be able to sweet talk his way into a closed store.
Ahhhhh, thanks.

Ok, here goes.
