That sounds like a great day!:goodvibes

It's a huge day here in Utah! There are parades, and small town celebrations. Lots of people re-enact the entrance of the pioneers into Utah; pushing handcarts, driving covered wagons, etc.

I think that Alan will cook some Dutch Oven for us. I'll fry some chicken, and Alan will make DO potatoes, and "cowboy" beans. It's a fun day to talk about our ancestors and remember what they had to go through to get here.

Hee hee! My husband and I have a cheesy day planned. We are going out to Cracker Barrel and then coming home to watch "Gone With the Wind." :) Get it? Southern food, Civil War movie? I know, I know. Corny, but fun!

WFD at your house?

Oh, that's my favorite movie of all time!!! Clark Gable is so incredible!!!

I feel left out of the Harry Potter parties :guilty:. I never read the books so I am really out of the loop. Gotta start reading them, DD has been telling me I should have and they are all caught up on the movies...I am left in dust :confused3.

All of the plans sound so good, and the food you are all having even better. DD and DDIl told me that from now on I need to remember this is a dinner thread...last night they said the post should have been: WFD? Nothing.:lmao::lmao::lmao: They ended up with eggs, fried balogna ( DD was on the budhet board too) and I had french toast.

Buddy came home and asked what his supper was, I told him he had told me he did not want dinner, just a sandwich (big surprise there) and he sais, "Yup, just a donkey... blah, blah, blah...... I had to tell him that Lori had come up with a way to entice him to the movies....he got a kick out it...it is so true

Lindsay- I love your "cheesy" days you plan with your DH. You both sound like you have so much fun together.

Hersey- Please don't feel badly about talking to us. We have all been through the same type of pain and loss, still going through it really, so we all understand and want to help . It helps to share it, I think.

Buddy is very secure with us. He is always coming out with something that opens him up to a lot of teasing, but he has always been a rock...taught my sons how to be men, and showed the girls how to be spoiled. And they are.

Sounds like a wonderful day, now you know you have to share the recipes for the potatoes and cowboy beans!!:goodvibes

   I feel like I hit the jackpot - I was strolling through Winn-Dixie, not looking for it and there it was - Sweet Baby Rays  !!
I emptied the shelf into my cart.:woohoo:

Dinner tonight will be a recipe from a Kraft magazine: Easy Stove Top Cheesy Chicken Bake. Yummo! I'll feed the kids and throw them out the door to their party!!!

Lori, I thought of you all night last night. Alan and I were on a date (IKEA to shop and have yummy meatballs!!!), and he got called by the TV station he works for. They needed him to cover Harry Potter mania and the midnight selling. I got to tag along!

We went to this tiny bookshop called The King's English, and it was incredible. They had roped off the entire block, and gotten all the businesses involved! The clothing boutique had been turned into Madame Malkins, there was The Hog's Head, Flourish and Blott's, Olivander's Wand Shoppe, etc. It was so cool! Kids were in costume, and there were lots of party activities; trivia games, costume contests, etc. We had a ball there!!! We spent from 10:00-11:00 there, and then went to Barnes and Noble. The line snaked around 2 blocks there, and fights were breaking out, and it got quite scary for a while. The police stepped in, and order was restored! What a wild night!!!

What more could you possibly ask for? What a wonderful husband and father. :goodvibes

Dinner tonight was pasta fresca, rolls and salad.

I thought that you were going to talk about the wildfires, missed that you were thinking about Lori. You must have had a blast. My oldest, Donny went last night to our local Barnes and Noble and he said that there was really nothing going on. There was a party earlier in the evening, but just a long line until midnight. Chaos whe the doors opened. Then someone went by and said that there were no lines at Stop and Shop. He paid $6 more that B&N. I talked to him for a few minutes this morning and we have not heard from him since :rotfl:. He'll turn up when he finishes the book.

You sound like my DS. He would not commit to dinner and I did not bother to set a plate. He isn't budging from his house until the book is finished.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Dinner tonight was so good. We had Ahi tuna that I marinated in Very aTeriyaki and Jeff grilled. lemon pepper chicken, also grilled, steamed broccoli, fresh green beens from Erica's garden, baked sweet potatoes and baked Idahos.

We had brie over raspberry sauce to start but it did not taste right. I had to toss it. We also had garlic bread topped with ham and mozzarella cheese. It was so good.

I tried to make an egg free cake today, but it did not come out right. They are eating it anyway, but I will try again.

I was so glad it wasn't the wildfires!!! I hate those stories!! We could see smoke from the newest wildfire, but luckily Alan didn't have to cover it. Harry Potter was a lot more fun!

We know what you'll be doing and who you're with!:lmao:

That sounds sooooo good. Unfortunately my flu symptoms turned into a stomach virus today. Can't eat a thing. Missed Kyle's baseball game, he's pitching tomorrow, hopefully I'll feel better tomorrow.

Tonight I am making chicken pot pie soup :)

WFD at your house?

ETA: OKWMOM, ok, this for you! Cracker Barrel was packed to the gills when we got there. I was craving an open-faced roast beef sandwich and mashed potatoes. So what do we do? We head to Logan's!!! The beef was, no kidding, fresh out of the oven. :faint: It was so tender and juicy!!! So after that we went home and watched GWTW. What a great day!

Morning ladies. Dsis's bday party was fun. BIL got out the smoker and smoked enough meat to feed a small country. I've never had bacon cooked on a smoker--but yummo! They had a grill going as well for the burgers. I ate way too much! Not sure what's on the plate for tonight. It might very well be frozen pizza, as I think that's all we have in the freezer.

Kathy--Hope you are feeling better this morning!

 So sorry Kathy. I hope it is just one of the 24 hour varieties and you feel better quickly. :flower3:

I've never been to a Logan's, but that sandwich sounds devine. Especially as I sit here eating my special K cereal bar for breakfast. Thanks for thinking of me. :goodvibes

Tonight DH and I are going out for dinner. We have to drop off the youngest at camp so we are running a few errands after that and then having dinner together. He wants to go to the place we went a few weeks ago that serves the fried crawfish tails, but I'm trying to talk him into the fondue place (he's never been). We'll see what happens.

Have a great day everyone.

Gretchen

I'm back! I finished the book at quarter past midnight yesterday. No comments on what I thought, of course!

So, catching up, here are a bunch of photos:

Wednesday we had baked eggs, with sauteed cherry tomatoes and crusty bread:

Then Thursday we had roast turkey breast baked in a praline-mustard-pecan glaze, with corn fricassee and farmer's market green peas:

Here is the haul from Friday's farmer's market:

Friday's dinner, I forgot to take a photo of the finished food, but here is the giant cowboy rib eye I roasted for DH (no he did not eat it all):

Sides were the squashes and eggplants from the market, and some of the foccacia too. I made myself a piece of chicken but did not eat it.

No photo from yesterday, I was too rushed to get back to the book, but we had fajitas.

Today we are having grilled littleneck clams as an appetizer, then (hopefully) some striped bass, it will depend on what's at the market.

Good morning ladies!

Steph & Gretchen - Thanks for the well wishes, still a little queasy this morning, but better.

Becky - Awesome pics, I love a good ribeye and that was one mighty fine looking piece of meat! Glad to have our food porn back!!!!

If I can stomach it, DH has been craving Shrimp Creole, so I'll make that along with a big salad. I know I won't be eating the creole, it'll be bland food all day for me.:rolleyes1

Have a great day everyone!

I'm having some good healthy food today..I'm having Medeteranean Orzo Salad, which was posted on a summer salads thread by Christine.. I've got a rib eye cooking right now and we will slice that up and have it on a regular salad for dinner.

Dinner menu finalized! We are starting with grilled littlenecks with a garlic butter sauce (I just tasted it and holy moley it is garlicky! No vampires will be coming around here!). Then, we are having striped bass with a mustard-garlic sauce (yup, more garlic), and cedar planked bluefish with a spicy herb rub. Sides are Mom's famous eggplant sticks, shredded zucchini and summer squash sauteed with lemon and thyme, and roasted onion-sour cream mashed potatoes.

Photos to follow later! :)

I'm 3/4 of the way through the book. Not going to say anything though!!!

Dinner today will be my Flavorful Pot Roast, brown rice (covered in the yummy gravy), fresh summer squash from our garden, a couple of ripe tomatoes from our garden, and for dessert a Very Berry Pie. This is a new recipe for me. It's low fat, and almost completely sugar free. If it's good, I'll post the recipe tomorrow.

The party last night was a blast! I'll post pictures later this afternoon. I've got to get the kids ready for church, so I'll talk to you all later!

Hi Friends - I haven't posted in awhile and just wanted to stop by and say that I haven't fallen off the face of the earth! I am really really stressed with work right now and busy so we haven't eaten at real meal at home since Tuesday. Dinners out, leftovers, sandwiches, etc. Summer is nuts around here!

Tonight is another night out (church party) and they are doing burgers. I leave tomorrow for camp! I will be there all week so DH is making his grocery list of what he wants to make while I'm gone.

I'll check back in next weekend and hopefully we'll be back to eating at home some =)
