Morning Y'all,

Great in some ways..Lots of movement and feeling coming back in his legs and feet..In the bad news he has a significant blockage in his corotid artery. He will probably have to go into the hospital next week and have it taken care of.
Thanks for asking

Jenny, Sorry to hear that Ed will have to head back to the hospital! I'll be sending prayers y'all way for everything to go well! :flower3:

I just wanted to post an update on DD. I went to work today and when I got home, she was laughing and having a great time with the evening therapist. She ate a PB&J this afternoon and seems to be much better. I really appreciate all of the prayers and concerns for her health. Like Kyle, I feel like I have a family here even though we haven't met. Thanks to all of you. :grouphug:

Glad to hear she is eating!!! That's quite an improvement! Prayers helped!!! :goodvibes

. I refuse to cook special for him. He finds what he can to eat from what's there, he (or my Mom :rolleyes1 ) makes himself something to eat, or he does not eat at all. I don't care. He's a grown man, he is not going to starve.

I so agree with you on this! What I don't get is with all of the wonderful food you cook, how he can continue to turn his nose up at it! What is wrong with that man! ;) Oh, his Mom will make sure her boy gets his food! Doesn't that just kill you?! :confused3 :goodvibes

Can I rant today?

I am generally a believer in Karma and will usually let others be the judge, but if my sister changes her mind and lets the court case go forward, I am going to changing my tune. If you will, I would appreciate help with keeping my mouth closed. I have not said much to the kids at all about their Dana and never about his family...spawns of evil as well... but it is going to be harder now. Right now I feel like I have a volcano exploding inside and I cannot let my wonderful nieces know that I know. They are always sworn to secrecy in regards to their father's financial deficits and they are legion.

Nancy, Well I know this guy must be BAD for you to feel this way! You are such a caring person & AlWAYS speak well of everyone, this must be a REALLY AWFUL PERSON! Nancy, you know you are doing everything right here! Not bashing him to his children & allowing your Sis to choose how to handle him! Just keep doing what you're doing! And RANT AWAY, when you feel the need to explode!!!

No cooking last night, picked up sushi! Don't know about tonight, I'm feeling achy again & have lots of errands to run today! Got to get it all done today, looks like we are going to have a WET weekend here! And the weather people are saying we have something else out in the lower gulf that will bring more rain in, right after this one. Ugh!

Have a good day!
Sheryl

Can I rant today? My sister is divorced and has been for almost 15 years. Her Ex is the nastiest man on the Planet and has had her in court for most of that time. He never cared about the kids until they became a tool to use against my sister.

 I don't get it either. And I think the only way you could possibly understand someone like that would be to BE like that yourself. I hate that he has created that horrible situation for your sister, your family, and mostly for the children. I just cannot wrap my mind around having so much hatred for someone that you would hurt your own children to get back at that other person. :sad2: Like you have done, I would rather shoulder the hurt myself than share it with my kids. Hang in there and vent anytime it feels necessary.

I fully intended to update this yesterday, but a little thing called WORK got in the way...if only DIS time would pay the bills ;).

Wouldn't that be fab!?! :lmao:

Nancy-I too get some funny looks from people when I talk about my friends as well...my mil will say things like "well they aren't REAL friends" and I just say your right they are family actually...that really really annoys her!!!

Gretchen- I am so happy to hear that she had a good evening and ate a bit as well. I have been so worried about her. How is her mouth looking today?

Kenny is used to me talking about all of you now and if he thinks it is strange, he hasn't said it. My mother thinks it is a little odd, but she doesn't quite grasp the technology that allows us to chat like this.

The sausage dip is a great idea. I have made one before but I've never used cream cheese in mine - just velveeta cheese. I may try that though - surely its not obvious to the taste. Probably just makes it creamy...
Tell me more about this bacon recipe....

The cream cheese in the sausage dip really does not have an obvious taste. With the spice in the sausage and the rotel, it really is more of a creamy factor than a taste in itself. I co-hosted a couples wedding shower for about 30-40 guests and made 4 batches. At the end of the night, we still had plenty of the other dishes left over, including the cold boiled shrimp, but the sausage dip was gone. The guys kept coming back to it again and again.

The bacon recipe is in a cookbook I have at home. I'll post it for you tonight. DS loves it and it is easy to prepare. An added bonus is that it freezes really well.

I so agree with you on this! What I don't get is with all of the wonderful food you cook, how he can continue to turn his nose up at it! What is wrong with that man! ;)

I know what you mean. When I read Becky's post to Kenny last night he asked "Is he out of his mind?!?" Kenny has looked at Becky's food pics with me and says her husband is a lucky man. :rotfl: Don't know exactly what he is trying to tell me :confused3 :rotfl: Anybody????? :rolleyes1

Aimee - take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing. Like everyone else, I have no idea what kind of treatment you are about to have, but it doesn't sound pleasant. I hope it is over quickly.

DD is doing much better and I cannot see any sores in her mouth. She ate her breakfast this morning, so I think she is on the mend. Last night's scallop stir fry was a hit with DH, not so much with the kids. DH gave it a 4 (said it would be a 5 if I had used more scallops and less veggies  ), DS said it was a 2.5 and would have been a 3.5 if I had used less pasta, and DD9 didn't like the flavor of the sauce and gave it a 2. I thought it was fine, but next time I think I'll tone the vinegar down a little bit.

Tonight's dinner is dirty rice and green beans.

Happy Friday everyone!

If his Mom keeps feeding him then she is going to wind up with him ;)

Sheryl- I hope that you start feeling better soon. The rain coming your way is not going to help, though, is it?

Thank goodness your little girl is doing better. If she is eating her pain is gone :thumbsup2

As to what your DH is leading up to.......Nope not today, kiddo :rolleyes1

I have to tell you that my DD has been a Godsend to Gail's kids. She has always been the big sister that shielded them when she could and they trust her. Even though they are all adults now, they still know that she is there.

I talked to Buddy and then called Gail. She said that her DD is so proud that she is going to let her make the payments and she is going to pay the rent for Kim. That way there will be more money that the girls have to make the car payments. Buddy wanted to make some payments ahead of time for them but now we will wait until after Thanksgiving and slip extra into their Christmas gift to ease up the Holidays. My Sis promised to let me know if the girls struggle and we can help. Thanks for letting me work this out, I gave my DH a headache this morning :headache::headache::headache::headache: and did not want to keep crying when I talked to Gail.

Has anyone ever made a baked brie?

I think I like brie - and would love to make something like that...
Here is the recipe I found on one...
But I would love your variations on it...

Baked Brie

2 4 oz. Packs Crescent Rolls
1 8 oz. Wheel of Brie Cheese
2 + Tbs. Of Tabasco Sauce or other hot sauce
1 egg, beaten

Preheat oven 375 deg. Work crescent dough into a thin circle, big enough to wrap Brie. Put Brie in center of dough. With a fork poke several holes in top of cheese. Pour 1 tablespoon hot sauce over holes and let it sink in.
Add rest of Tabasco, poking a few more holes, some will run out. Fold dough over top of cheese. Brush with egg to help seal edges.
Bake about 10 min, don't over bake, but make sure dough is nice and brown. Eat with crackers or tortilla scoops or chips.

Nancy, There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason when it comes to my ole achy body! You would think the rain or cold would make it worse, sometimes it does & other times I'm good. I don't really know what made it flare up this time. I had started walking on the tredmill again, but my feet flared up, so I backed off on that. I've been getting in the pool & water temp has dropped a good bit, so maybe that's it. Thanks for the concern!

Piglet, Sorry I can't help, I've never tried it. Just bought one that was already made up from Sam's & followed the directions. ;) The recipe sure does sound yummy!

I can't help either, Piglet. I only tried one time and it tasted like stinky feet once I got through with it :scared:. If I mention it my poor DDIL, the poor thing who tried it first, runs for cover :lmao:

/
Piglet, I make baked brie sometimes, but never a spicy one. I like to cut all the rind off the brie, then top it with raspberry jam, wrap it, top with toasted almonds, and bake. I've also made it without the dough wrapper. I usually serve it with crackers.

Um, the thing is, guys, is that my brother does live with my parents. He is down in the basement in his little cave. And yes, if my Mom could have it her way I am sure he would be there forever. My Dad, on the other hand, cannot wait for him to get out. My brother is a "late bloomer," as we like to say.

It does not bother me at all that he does not want to eat most of the food I make. I just don't make him anything special if he won't eat what I am making. Truthfully, my Mom does not either...she'll pop a baked potato in the oven for him but that's about it. Since he is so finicky, he has actually gotten to be a pretty good cook of his very limited repitoire. He is usually the griller of the meat/fish that I prepare at our Sunday linners, and he does an excellent job.

Nancy, that situation really stinks. It's amazing how cruel some people can be.

WFD tonight...I am planning on either going out with DH to a local brewpub, or else (and more likely) pulling together a cheese plate and making a green salad, with some crusty bread. Nothing too crazy.

Kathy, Glad you liked the Shepherd's Pie...:)

Nancy, Hugs for you and your sister...sorry this is all happening. What a Royal A**!

Sheryl, So sorry that your feet are acting up!

JennyMom, Prayers for Ed!

I know I am forgeting some of you...I have to catch up again! :rolleyes1

I have seen this done with raspberry jam or honey and almonds (yummy)...never tabasco...let us know how it is.

They are so very lucky to have her and YOU!

Gretchen - So happy to hear that DD is feeling better.:goodvibes

I just threw a London Broil in to marinate in Lauren's recipe for Sunday, this is Lauren week here!;)

I also stumbled upon a very old recipe that I haven't made in sooooo long but I remember it being very good. It's called Mystery Pecan Pie, the mystery being it has cream cheese in it. Think I'm going to make it later today.

Storm update - It has become a depression and it LOOKS like the entire Gulf Coast is going to feel some of it. We're probably going to have a lot of rain tomorrow through Sunday and gusty winds. Hopefully nothing more than that.

Is that recipe posted? Hint Hint!

Thanks for the update...I'll be praying for y'all...it doesn't come out the same with a NY accent! ;)

I LOVE BRIE..it is def. my favorite of the cheeses, ok top 3 anyway! I have had this baked bri, but without tobasco sauce, and like Becky said, I have topped it with jam..Apricot worked really well, and served it with either french bread toasts or crackers...let us know how you like the spiced up version! :)

Fingers crossed for just a few drops....

Can I rant today? My sister is divorced and has been for almost 15 years. Her Ex is the nastiest man on the Planet and has had her in court for most of that time. He never cared about the kids until they became a tool to use against my sister. I can't even count how much has been wasted on lawyers. My sis has supported her children, bought everything for them, and sent the girls to college. He has not bought them a pair of sneakers, but he did clean out their bank accounts and sell a car that my sis bought for one of the girls. He kept the money. He is suing her for $100 thousand dollars in back support etc, but the judge offered some settlements and he would choose $3000 a year for ten years. My sis was ready to pay just to make him go away. He has not worked in 15 years. She had won the court case but the presiding judge's written decision did not make sense so it was overturned on appeal.

Well, as I said, she was prepared to settle because he has made the kid lives a nightmare and has forced them to choose sides over and again, the youngest is so stressed that she avoids both of them. Yesterday my niece, her oldest DD called her and asked her to co-sign a loan for a car that she was buying for the youngest. It seems one more promise gone, the money set aside for the car gone, and he will not make good on it.

My niece is working two jobs, in grad school for her Masters and is the mother hen to the girls, her sister included, living in the home she rents. She took her savings to put toward that car but it is not enough and she already has her own car payment. My sis would help but the girls are trying to do this themselves.

I am so angry, I cannot understand how anyone would steal from their children and then make them feel guilty if they take help from their mother. And then blame all of his woes on her, and make his kids bear the burden of his lazy vindictiveness! My sister will find a way to help the girls without damaging their pride, and we are going to as well. My DH still cannot understand how he has not helped them yet :confused3, he does not understand what man would let his children struggle or go without.

:grouphug: to all involved in this mess! It boggles my mind about how some people can do this to their kids! I'll keep them all in my prayers!

Oh, if I was only there to share it with ya...we'd have a blast!

You know that I absolutely HAVE to have this recipe!!! Pecan pie is my favorite, and to add cream cheese would make it heaven!!!!

I hope that this storm is kind to you!

I'm taking off here in an hour to pick up the kids from school, and then take a trip to the south end of the state so the kids can see Alan. He's still on assignment, so it will be nice for them to see their daddy this weekend. Not very pleasant for me, but the kids need it! So, dinner will be on the road, probably Arby's!

Thanks for the update...I'll be praying for y'all...it doesn't come out the same with a NY accent! ;)

Lauren, Thanks for the worries about my feet! :goodvibes Actually it's my feet, back & neck, but who can't keep up with all of my old grandma issues!

Y'all keep up the prayers for us Southern girls this weekend!

( And Lauren it all depends on what Southern Y'all you are going for. I know most of us Nawlins people often get asked if we're from NY so I'm sure you could pull off our Y'at accent! ) Come on down & Kathy will cook for all of us!:lmao: Right Kathy? ;)

Why of course!!!!!:cool2:

Piglet - here is the recipe I promised.

Hot Bacon Bits

1 ½ teaspoons dry mustard
2 pounds thick sliced bacon

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Combine brown sugar and mustard. Place bacon slices in single layer in a shallow baking pan. Sprinkle with sugar mixture. Bake for 1 hour or until crisp. Drain and cut into bite-size pieces. May be frozen and reheated.
