Still down with Earthlink in Texas, I've gotten pretty good at getting around with that ISP. I have it memorized now, any page I want to go to, just pop in the ISP where the disboards.com should be and walaaaa!

WOW!!!!!!! I can't beleive all you guys have been dising while I have been stuck in "The page cannot be displayed" terror!!!!!! I even sunk down to searching other disney boards for an answer. I found it! There are some poor people left out asking about the DIS on another board ! Our own Geoff_M responded to the pleas this morning that he was out and that if we had an IP address we could get in. I did not know what that was, did "ask Jeeves" and put the dis address in here to get the number!! YIPPEE! Not sure if I will last in here. Only the numbers are working. What a mess ! I can't rescue the other locked out souls as I am not subscribing to that board! Thanks Geoff! Hope you are "in" too!

Still patchy here in the UK. I can access it from work using demon, but can't access the boards directly through NTL.

I figured the DNS stuff out using pring/tracert at work - then I find there's a whole thread devioted to explaining how to get it to work LOL.



Well really wanted it for Mrs. Dive Leader, as she's theone who spends ALL day on the boards (kids and school run permitting) - and yes I'll get shot when she reads this !

I thought I'd be clever and edit the hosts file with the relevant IP addresses, to save it failing with DNS. Worked for tracert, but IE6 didn't pick it up. Anyone know how to get IE6 to use the hosts file ?

Windows ME unfortunately. I do have Windows 2000, but only as a secondary OS, so I've not tried with that.

Edited HOSTS.SAM file, saved back to HOSTS in C:\WINDOWS
(I know path is C:\Winnt\System32\Drivers\etc for Windows 2000, but C:\windows seems to work ok for Windows ME at then DOS prompt).

NTL has Web Proxy's, but they are hidden/transparent, so yes I'm using one, but I can't do anything about it - I don't actually configure to use it. I can configure to use a different proxy, but AFAIK I can't configure to use no proxy.


Ah well - off to bed now. It's getting somewhat late here in the UK (half past midnight :yawn smilie.

did you put in www.disboards.com and disboards.com?

Alex I tried the link you gave and I am still getting the error message that the webpage is not found. Thank goodness Kath gave me the ip addys that I need to stay somewhat connected... I wonder how much longer we can expect this to be an issue Thanks for the explanation
