WARNING: major spoilers. If you are at least 16 years old, you can proceed but ONLY if you have watched “28 Days Later” AND “28 Weeks Later.”

This is strictly for anyone who likes to talk about 28 DL and 28 WL. I saw both and LOVED them. They were the scariest movies I’ve ever seen. I think the reason being that they’re quite possible with the state of biotechnology these days. That’s probably why I was so freaked the first time I saw 28 DL.

28 DL was very well scripted and solidly made. There were very few loose ends that could’ve been addressed. The only thing that I wondered about was how the soldiers were going to “repopulate” the country using Hanna and Selena. There were very few food supplies left and I’m sure the old castle wouldn’t have worked well as a nursery. And of course, we have the good ol diseases such as VD and herpes!

In 28 WL, I had numerous problems keeping with the movie because there were many loose ends and, I’ll be honest here: they annoyed me severely. Why only the US military? Didn’t other countries at least have a few survivors? It would have been MUCH more plausible had there been a few from Ireland, Germany, Finland, etc. To have a para-military coalition of survivors from mainland Europe would have been more convincing – at least in my eyes.

Next, the US decides to turn a small section of the neighborhood into a rehabilitation center. Nothing wrong with that but it seems odd that they made numerous blunders that I doubt would have happened in real life. When the infected attack, the order is given to herd all the clean people into a shelter deep inside the building. I have a problem with this. The military knew that the infection had no cure (up to this point, they did find out the mother was immune but I’ll get to that later) but still, why did they have everyone tossed into one gigantic room? In my opinion (and I’m not trying to be an expert on diseases here) it makes more sense to ISOLATE people by breaking up massive numbers into smaller, contained rooms. Incredibly, there were few safeguards against a breakout. When Don was infected by his wife, it’s odd that there were no TV cameras in the room or any way of using remote control to lock the doors. It wouldn’t have prevented the pandemonium that ensued but might have helped control it better. The mother was found to be immune to the rage virus so how come Don isn't immune? In real life, is immunity from viruses passed through the mother's genes or the father's?

Finally, does anyone know what happened at the end? It was confusing. The children were found to be immune to the rage virus so why did they kill the pilot? Did they lose the ability to control themselves after they were infected by their father? Or did the virus mutate? Does this mean a higher chance of there being a third movie? Overall, I enjoyed 28 WL but wouldn’t rate it equally to 28 DL because I found the plot inconsistent in so many areas. Still, it scared me almost as badly as 28 DL.

Last, but not least, what became of Jim, Selena and Hanna? Did they escape to somewhere else in Europe or were they killed? There is not a clue about their fates. I would have loved to see at least one character from 28 DL in this movie.
