I hope it ends up a bit warmer. I'm not sure what to do. I live in a cold weather climate and the last race DH and I did in October it was probably about 40 that morning. I tend to heat up very fast. I ran that race in capri workout pants, a WISH shirt and a long sleeve over it. About 2 miles in I tied the long sleeve shirt around my waist, I was just so hot.

I usually like to run in my running skirt. What to do. Maybe running skirt over capris and pull the capris off when I get hot? I know I'll heat up once I start moving. I just don't want to freeze waiting for the race to start. I guess bringing a cheapo fleece blanket might help. But can I fit it in my luggage?

I think I need to start seriously packing!

I think I'm gonna go buy a cheap blanket. I did pick up some $5 sweatshirts for DH and me at Walmart, along with some throw away gloves.

Boohoo! We were hoping to run in shorts, after a long few months of running in thermal tights! At what point is it too late to put things in the bag drop? I think we will bring tights and long sleeves to go over our running shirts and shorts but will want a few more layers as we wait for the start. We are also considering handing off our clothes to our hubbies who will be waiting by the TTC.
I really hope we get a warm breeze from the gulf! At least we wont be running in snow like we have today! I hope!!!

Really? I was thinking if the low is 49 we'll definitely go in shorts, but take the throw away sweatshirt and blanket for the wait. If the low is 49, it could be up to around 60 by the time we finish? I dunno, I never run that early! :lmao:

I'm so glad Santa brought me some new compression tights and shirts! Now I'm prepared for everything.

At least the low has moved up from 39 :scared1: to 46. I really didn't like the sound of that - it was too much like home!

Well, 46 is better. At least I will be able to participate!

Tracy, you can always just adjust the thermostat when I get there, right? :rotfl:

We leave a week from tomorrow! Woohoo!

Who do you trust??

Wed High(as National Weather Service only goes that far out now) for Orlando:

NWS: 73
Weather.com: 75
Accuweather: 71

Fri:

Weather.com 70/50
Accuweather: 65/43

In fact Weather.com(from Tracy's post) on Fri dropped High by 1 degree and raised low 1 degree in the same day.

This shows just a guess. Lets see how close they really get :sad2:

Robert, can we just pick the one we like best and go with that? ;)

As long as we're not talking temps close to freezing, I won't complain. In my heart, I really wanted to go swimming, but I'll understand if that's not possible. :)

I agree!

Here is Accuweathers Sat/Sun Forecast(much better than yesterday)

High: 63 °F

Sunday

Low: 45 °F
High: 66 °F

Right now, it's 21 degrees here at the Jersey Shore with wind gusts about 50 mph most of today. I am hoping that next Saturday in Lake Buena Vista is much warmer than that (and less windy!).

I guess the good news is I'm used to training in cooler temps and I already know what works for me in warm weather.

If it's colder, can I wear my wicking t-shirt and put a regular (non-wicking) sweatshirt over it? I've done it on my shorter distances here without a problem....

I would be wary of wearing non technical clothing. As you heat up, the sweat will move to the outer layer(cotton) and won't dry. It will start to cause issues. I have worn a fleece jacket(2006 Goofy) and that was ok. I would wear a LS tech over or under if you can roll the sleeves up. I have posted this before but check out the arm warmers. They can be rolled down when you warm up. We used the last year and worked well.

I don't have a tech LS. My body has a broken thermostat--I can't feel myself overheating. This has actually been dangerous on more than one occasion (heat exhaustion at WDW as a teen, fainting on the back of a motorcycle), so I try to layer so that I can get down to short sleeves if people around me are indicating I may need to (I really need to have someone point out that I'm overdressed--I never feel hot). The arm warmers may be a good way to go because of that. That said, I'm also don't sweat much (which may be why I overheat--broken cooling mechanism). My husband has found me many days sitting in the house in July and August with the house temps near 90 and feeling comfortable (of course, we do save on the air conditioning when I do that).

Thanks, Robert. Do you recommend the "cool weather" Under Armor stuff or is any tech material going to be good enough? Close fitting or looser?

Thanks for any insight you may have.

Any tech will work way better than cotton. Some people have favs but they all don't trap your sweat. I personally prefer loose tech stuff. I hate things clinging to me during a race :)

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I don't like clingy stuff either, but if you said it was good for me, I would have tried it. :)

BTW: Almost Happy New Year to all you East Coasters. Watching the Dolls concert on the HDNet at Red Rocks. This seems to remind me of someone who always got their better half in a lot of my pics at WDW races :rolleyes1

Glad to hear that it's not going to be that cold after all - maybe I can still wear my running skirt :goodvibes

How much will the temperature change during the 1/2? Will it remain more or less throughout the race or will it warm up at all?

I wouldn't expect it to change much unless highs are in 80's. In 06, it was cool finishing in 3:04(and that's with 6:00 start which was really like 6:20 as no waves and one giant mass).

Accuweather update:

Saturday Jan. 10 High of 69 with real feel of 63 (low the night before is expected to be 46, so race time temps should be in the low to mid 50s).

Sunday Jan. 11 High of 62 with real feel of 55 (low the night before is expected to be 44, so race temps should be in the low to mid 50s again).

For me this will be the first race at WDW with ideal temps. It may appear to be too cold for some but it is the perfect temps for marathon and half marathon running to avoid overheating.
