** The Official Priced Out Thread **

Is this post really necessary? The thread title is very clear. I'm sure posters who are feeling a bit priced out do not need you to smack their fingers and state the obvious. :sad2: Just let folks have a place to vent without judgement. Is that so hard?

I'm sorry.

But it gets really old having the same thread every. single. release.

And as I said, I would love to be able to cruise Disney every single time - but I understand that it is expensive and sometimes I won't be able to. If an itinerary I want isn't in my price range I move on and look at other lines rather than complaining.

But that's just me.

I didn't even bother to price any 2020 European cruises as we are planning a DVC family trip that summer. I would have loved one of the Greek cruises.

I'm not venting because they weren't even on our radar. I think it's nice that others can jump into a thread like this (where people are frustrated with DCL pricing) and offer suggestions. There's an entire Other Options thread in the ABD forum, and I think some of the comments here are in the spirit of that ABD thread.

As I expected, the summer cruises when both kids are out of school are out of my comfort zone. I'm willing to pay $1000-$1100/nt max for our family of 4 in an 9C oceanview on the Magic/Wonder. I look forward to when we can book the cheaper summer shoulder seasons...or when it's just DH and I cruising and paying airfare for 2 people vs. 4, lol. Someday... Not sure what's going to happen with our placeholder that expires on 8/16/20. I keep joking that I'll just take my college daughter on a January Marvel cruise...and leave DH and my high school daughter at home to fend for themselves...lol.

I was thinking of booking that 12-night cruise tomorrow for 2 adults/1 teen in a veranda. I'm thinking that's going to be a big no now, with the US/CDN exchange rate that would be cost to or over $20,000 for sure.

Going to check tomorrow on the 8 and 7 night northern European those may be more in our wheelhouse and is an itinerary we haven't done yet!

If you're not too picky about itinerary, try wherever Magic is going during the last week of August. Most of the US schools are back by then, so the prices are (somewhat) more reasonable.

We did Copenhagen and Southern Norway last summer. IIRC we were in the USD 6.5K range after OBB in a 9C, 2A2K. We got back to Dover on Sept 2 and flew home on Labour Day. We'd been away for nearly a month (visiting family on the East Coast and and the UK prior to the cruise). I sent my kids to school on Tuesday. I'm sure I didn't win any parent of the year awards for that, but they survived. They don't really do much the first couple of days back anyway. And westbound is the easy time change!

I can't believe the prices.

Perhaps I was just wishful thinking, but I thought the 12night Med/Greek Isles would be around $16K for a verandah(family of 4)...it's costing us $7K more...>:(

We looked at the 12 night Rome / Greek / Italy / France to Barcelona cruise: For an oceanview room for the 2 of us we said "NOPE"!! (well it was closer to heck no ... but that wasn't it either).

So we booked the Copenhagen to Dover cruise (only 10 night ... oh well) and it seemed like a steal ... yes we let Disney mug us again ... BUT this cruise will be all NEW to US ports (well except for Copenhagen and Dover).

It's all about perspective!!

Speaking of perspective ... I see on the "pricing thread" that someone has booked one of the suites (or maybe all of deck 8) at over $33,000. :scared::hyper2::sad2::bitelip: :faint::scared1::earseek: - you know that I am not a fan of DCL turning some of my favorite formerly public spaces into concierge - but heck we might have to thank these folks for paying so much so we don't have to pay that much more (for the SAME cruise!!)

Not exactly priced out, but for the exact same cruise I have booked in March 2020 during spring break...that we were looking to change to July 2020 on the Fantasy

a Deluxe Family Verandah (2A, 3K) went from $10,295 to 13,671. 30%!

I think people are already aware that there are other options. You could just skip over threads that annoy you. I think the person that started the thread meant it to be a thread where people can complain.

I am a tad disappointed in the pricing of the British Isles. I was expecting an off season cruise to be more reasonable. I will look at other cruise lines before making up my mind.

We really wanted to do the BI cruise a couple years ago and I balked because of the price. We sailed Princess instead. This year I wanted to try a trans-Atlantic - and I've not been to Barcelona. So, that un-interesting (to most people) itinerary has allowed me to get a 12 night cruise at a pretty reasonable price. I'm glad I didn't have my heart set on a new and more interesting option though.

Exactly.

After seeing the prices and converting to CAD, it doesn’t make sense for me to pay the Disney premium for a port intensive European cruise. I have done three TAs which are great value and have Hawaii booked. I was thinking I might drop it for one of the new releases but it now looks like a huge bargain.

I’m in the same predicament. My placeholder expires the same date. Now with one in college, another involved in HS sports, and 3rd in middle school, my only option was July. The price already has hubby saying no way. I’m secretly looking forward to when my older one doesn’t want to come anymore and I can afford to book again.

It’s amazing. We have a quote for our family to go to Antarctica- like a real spend 4 days on the land (nights on the ship), no additional costs for the excursions cruise from Argentina, including flights and the cost is LESS than a verandah Greek Islands (without any excursion costs factored in yet).

We also did a two and a half week 5 star African Safari with multiple locations, all inclusive with alcohol for less than some of these cruises.

I love Disney, but over $1000 a night they are hitting into luxury travel but it’s still at heart a midtier mass market cruise line. They are tapping into a really different demographic with some of these trips.

and if you want a truly good deal, look at the British Isles cruise ... its downright "cheep"

I thought that sailing and the 5 night right after it were both priced pretty well...for Disney at least. ;)

I was hoping to get my mom to agree to one of the Greek Isles cruises next year (she got the cruising bug after our first cruise in February). And she was definitely leaning towards it, even when I gave approximate prices from the last time they went to Greece. Unfortunately, when I confirmed what the price would be (minimum 17k for 3 adults in a veranda), so baulked. Though we may end up doing an Alaskan THIS September instead! Still trying to figure it all out!

We branched out right when the prices originally jumped in 2017 for non concierge cabins, concierge jumped in 2015, and have been very happy with the options we have sailed since. I still monitor this board because their are some good people on here and we will eventually sail DCL again if the price is right, so I want to know what changes to expect when we sail DCL again:)

For those jumping ship from DCL, life is good on other lines:)
