Hey what's with the report of the Volcano Pool being an icebox?
Anybody confirm or deny and supply a reason why? Thanks!

The water was colder last week in that pool then it ever was in all my trips. The temps outside were in the high 80s to low 90s but the pool was freezing.

ABSOLUTELY CONFIRM!! We were there last year same time and it was great. This year it is COLD!

We were there 9/30-10/7 and maybe I have a different level of tolerance after swimming in NH & MA ocean water all these years but I didn't think the water was freezing. My family was in the volcano every day. Was it cold, not too me. It wasn't hot, but to me in wasn't freezing. We swam for a few hours one night. Then again we did see people walking by with jeans and and sweatshirts while we were swimming. It was 40 degrees when we left Boston and it was 86-90 the week were in Florida. We lived in tee shirts and shorts for 24/7 when we were in Florida.

We now go two or three times a year to WDW, but in 2003, we had not been in YEARS...so were very excited to be going on our "first" trip again with grandkids.
Originally, we had reservations at Port Orleans French Quarter, but lucked out when they began renovations and had a chance to upgrade to the Polynesian by paying a little extra.
I had made the usual requests for volcano view,etc. but we were put in a building facing the construction in the parking lot. When I began to ask about possibly moving after the busy Mother's Day weekend, the lady at the desk became visibly upset and began to tell me that I had not paid rack rates due to my upgrade and that I should be happy where I was. I told her that when I upgraded I felt I was entitled to the same service and had I wanted discount service, I could have gone to the value resorts. She told me that nothing else was available.
After I asked to see the manager and explained to him that we were staying 9 nights and did not want to view the parking lot the entire trip, he disappeared for a few minutes and came back with a room on the third floor in Samoa facing the volcano pool.
I appreciated his intervention, but resented the lady at the desk making me feel cheap, when in fact, I know that many many guests stay on discounted rooms.
Now I own at 3 DVC resorts and only visit the Poly to eat on occasion.

This is my first post We will be visiting WDW for the first time in November and we will be staying at the Poly. I know all the rooms have refrigerators...anyone know how big they are? Is it large enough to store a gallon of milk? Bring along my 17 month old, so we will need milk! Thanks.

We were there last month, and I think you might want to consider two half gallons versus a full gallon of milk, although maybe I'm wrong. I think the depth of the gallon size won't work, but you can easily fit two half gallons, along with water, pop, etc. Also FYI, there's no freezer section...it's all fridge.

I was just at Poly on Thursday night and I did have a gallon jug of iced tea in the fridge with no problem. I didn't have anything else, but there was still room around it. It was not too deep.

I would say that the “bad views” at the Polynesian are the direct views of the parking lot on the east side of Rapa Nui, the garden view rooms that face Fiji in Tuvalu and the handful of rooms that are next to the utility areas of some of the longhouses. Otherwise the views are great and of many different things.

I would not suggest putting any of this info in a request but just be aware of them.

We had one of the rooms that are next to the utility room on the first floor of Samoa and to tell you the truth, it didnt bother us at all. Our patio had mostly shrubs in front of it (facing the quiet pool) and it gave us privacy so that we could keep our curtains open during the day without feeling we were on display to the world. There was no noise at all from the utility room. We took the room because we wanted to be on the first floor in that longhouse and it was the only room available. We loved the convenience of not waiting for an elevator or going up stairs and it was worth it to us to sacrifice the view.

I'm glad others answered your gallon of milk question. I meant to ask my DH what he thought and forgot! I knew they were bigger than those little cube fridges but didn't remember the depth!

On our first trip to WDW DH and I stayed at the Poly and we just LOVED it!!!! When are you going?

With the opening of Tokelau, are all the buildings rehabed now besides Tahiti? I am trying to narrow my requests and wanted a new room with a balcony. I would love Tokelau but most importantly wanted a refurbed room with a balcony.

Yes, they are. Tokelau and Tahiti were the last two.

I'm not sure if all the new rooms have the headboards, etc. but all the buildings but Tahiti now have the new furnishings.

Cool pictures, Steve. I didn't meant to imply Tahiti was open already....just that Poly addict would get a rehabbed room since everything that is open is rehabbed.

Was Tokelau completely opened when you were there. And could you see any of the new Captain Cooks or whatever it will be called?

And most importantly, did you have fun?

Oops, my misunderstanding. Plenty of work still going on at the future Captain Cooks. We had a great time. This was our 4th trip as a family, and we just love the place. We didn't overdue it with the parks. Made sure that we spent plenty of time at the resort.
