I brought a sarong as a coverup for my tankini but I would say that for walking anywhere other than to the pool from your room (like to CC's) you might want a more substantial coverup. Besides, anytime you go in doors the AC is freezing!

I would definitely wear more then a sarong inside CC's or the GCH. A more substantial cover up is in order. There are no pool or beach toys for borrowing but the Boutiki sells buckets and shovels for $1 and other blow up toys and pool toys too. Even goggles.

We are going in early December. Is there any chance we'll be getting into the pool at all?

Just got back yesterday from 10 wonderful days at the Poly. CCs is still in its temp location. Thankfully no long lines there like it was in July though. The pool was pretty empty because of the cooler winds. Even though it was 88 degrees all week the winds make the pool very cold! We only went in twice which is highly unusual. Everything was booked as far as rooms go when we checked in.
Hi DaisyD, how was your trip and MNSSHP? Did you get Samoa lonhouse this time? Sorry the pool was cold.

We're heading down on Sunday for the Polynesian and requested a smoking room (my sister is a smoker). From what I understand Nuie is smoking optional and I was wondering if anyone has ever stayed there and how was it? I'd appreciate any info I can get. Also I will be using an ECV and wonder about the closeness to everything. Can't wait to get there - I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

DaisyD I thought I was the only one who thought the pool was cold. I even tried the quiet pool one day and it was a drop warmer. My kids don't care if a pool is ice though, they will swim.

Never stayed in Nuie but it is right next to the GCH. It is close to the pool as well. Maybe you might like a ground floor with a patio with the ECV. Then you would not need to use the very small elevator. Have a good trip.

oldhag, I have never stayed in Nuie but it seems to me I read that there is no elavator in Nuie. From what I understand you have to cross over to Raratonga and use the one in that building. The two buildings are connected by a walkway on the second floor. One thing I can say about Nuie is the location is excellent.

Exactly the advice I needed!

Much thanks. :thumbsup2

This thread is great. Time for some real brain power.

I have not been at the Polynesian for about 30 years with the exception of a drink I had at the bar about 10 years ago. Forget the rooms, food and pool for a second. What is you favorite thing to do on the Hotel's grounds?

My favorite thing is to get a Lapu Lapu drink in a pineapple from the bar, sit and watch the fireworks and water parade while glancing around at tiki torches and palm trees. It's just heaven!

Our favorite thing to do is lounge by the pool with a Pina Colava in hand!

We have a very nice trip! The weather was hot and rainfree. We got Aerotora unfortunately as nothing else was available. I even offered to pay for an upgrade to concierge to get a close room to the pool but everything was booked. We did have a monorail view but nothing beats a Samoa pool view~! MHSSHP was great! No crowds that night at all. We got lots of candies too! DD was made honorary chef of the day at Captain Cook's. Unfortunately DD can't handle a lot of attention from a lot of folks at once though. A CM came over and asked her name and said she would be right back. I figured she was bringing a cupcake or something for her since she mentioned the year of a million wishes. Anyway 5 minutes later the entire kitchen staff starts singing and prancing over to our table! They had a tray with a large cookie on it and another tray with sprinkles, caramel, and fudge for her to decorate her own cookie, They even made her a chef hat and gave her a dreams certificate. Well, as soon as she saw them coming she flew under the table and starting crying! We couldn't get her out and it was most embarrassing since no one there knew she has this attention hang up. She is seven and you wouldn't think someone that age would flip out over something so minor but she does. We got dirty looks from one family and they whispered about her being a brat. I felt bad for her and the staff. The staff let my mom be the honorary chef so that they could get it over with. After it was all over I went over to the staff, explained why DD reacted the way she did and apologized for her. I told them it was a very nice thing to do and I'm sure other kids do love the attention but just not my DD. Other than that we had a great trip!

Does The Polynesian have wi-fi? If so where is it located? I hope to use my computer on our upcoming trip.

Thanks for the responses about Nuie. I guess I should request a ground floor room but when do I do that? when I check in or do I need to send a fax? Thanks again. :thanks:

Thanks for sharing. :goodvibes I have a DD6 who would do the same thing because she is a bit shy with strangers but a complete loudmouth home. She wasn't real thrilled when the guy in playhouse Disney dragged her onstage with him. That is rude that someone who doesn't know your DD would say she's a brat and give you looks. Anyway glad you had a good trip. We can't wait until next year to go back.

I would call and add your request to your reservation and also mention it at check in if you need to.

That is just so sad. Not that your little girl had a reaction to the attention focused on her, but that there were people who judged her and you because of it. I am appalled that people who are simply observers cannot have the compassion to at least empathize with a child who is placed in a situation that she was not prepared to handle and then judge her behavior to be inappropriate. My DGD had some unexpected reactions to activities that I thought that she would enjoy and got some of the same looks. She was only four and was taking a medication that increased her anxiety level. WHen she was afraid and cried, people were less than kind in their looks. I am so sorry that it also happened to you and your DD.

Daisy D, so sorry about your daughter@ Chef Mickeys. My DD7 would be the same way. Now DD4 & DS2   !!! Children are all so different!

??? Is there internet service in room @ Polynesian?
