Are you nuts?
No self-respecting Cubs fan would ever be caught DEAD on a thread where the Cardinals have been officially welcomed.![]()
Breaking my own rule -- welcome back Jon Lester.![]()

Granted, I selfishly hope he gets hammered in his first start back.![]()

And vice versa!![]()

As for how they're playing this season, well.....ugh.I could hope for luck and a late-season comeback of miraculous proportions, but I've seen enough to know THAT ain't gonna happen. Thanks SO MUCH to the owners who decided to follow up a championship season AND a new stadium by trying to cobble together a starting rotation of relievers, has-beens, and never-will-bes. GRRRRRR!!!

That's a good reason to mention that team.

I'm just glad they had enough to win last night! Good job.![]()
I think the thing at which they've been most successful this season is toying with us.Oh well. A win's a win, I guess.
I'm trying really hard to stay away from this thread, but I wanted to check in to see if Mr. Slydell was mentioning tonight's game![]()
So of the teams in the lead, and those currently behind the leaders, which do people think will be standing at the end and make the playoffs?
Sadly I think in think things will play out exactly how they stand today. It means a couple teams I like not making the playoffs, but the reason the second place teams are where they are now will be the same reason they are are there at the end of the season.
I don't know, it's hard to predict anything right now, a lot of teams are pretty evenly bunched.
It looks like (at least in the AL) there's 6, maybe 7 teams playing for 4 spots -- Boston, Detroit, Anaheim, Cleveland, Seattle and then probably New York and Minnesota.
Of the teams leading now, I see them holding onto the division. I'd love to say the Indians will overtake the Tigers, but I don't know if it's going to happen, it just seems like everytime Cleveland looks like they might make a run, they hit a 3 or 4 game losing streak that kills momentum.
So it's basically 4 teams for one spot -- you can never count NY out, although logic should dictate that their age and injuries should knock them out, but they always seem to come back one way or the other somehow. Personally, I obviously want the Indians to get the wild card, but if not them, I'd like to see Seattle get it.![]()
Moises Alou is about to come off the DL today, and Pedro is inching closer to his return too. Hopefully, his return will be like getting a new pitcher without giving up a prospect!
I think the trading deadline will be boring.
The question is, how much does Moises and Pedro have left in the tank, even when they're "healthy"?It's been so long since Pedro's been the pitcher people feared that I wonder if he has much left to offer?
I agree, the trading deadline might be really quiet. I haven't heard any really decent rumors so far.
I heard that Craig Biggio is going to retire after this season. I'll miss him. And the HOF should be getting ready for him.
