Hi! I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend.

We took Lucas to his first family picnic yesterday. It was small - my parents, grandmother, and my sister & BIL. He did great, although he leaked through 3 different outfits. (We just can't find diapers that fit.) He spent most of the time napping in Grandma & Grandpa's arms. This weekend is another picnic with the extended family so at least we'll know what to expect (and how many changes of clothes to bring!)

DH went back to work today so it's just me and Lucas now. I'm still not 100% and I'm not supposed to do anything strenuous for another two weeks but I think we'll be okay. Send me some good vibes if you can spare them! :goodvibes

SL - I had the same problem when Jimmy was an infant. He leaked through his diaper on a daily basis. Have you tried the Pampers Swadlers? They were the best ones for me. They fit up to 18 lbs. so Jimmy is too big for them now. Now we use Huggies Supreme or Pampers Cruisers, anything with the stretchy tabs. His tummy is big, and those fit well.

Alice - What great news for you! I have come to learn that most people are very good and helpful. It's nice that these people recognize the sacrifice your family is making for all of us. :flower:

I love the Pampers swaddlers as well...

Molly has her 4 month appt. on Friday already! :earseek:

Hope everyone had a fab fourth. I missed DH a lot; it has always been our favorite holiday together. We had my parents, my best friend and her family over for dinner and fireworks. It was fun and the kids loved the fireworks.

Hi everyone! Well, dh, dd, and I spent Sunday at my dad's house. He lives an hour and a half away. My brothers (22 and 15) and my sisters (10 and 8) and my stepmom's parents were also there. It was my dad's b-day but I think Kylie was the one stealing the show, lol! My dad has a lake so dh and my brother (22) spent hours on the boat fishing. I spent most of my time w/my dad, stepmom, sisters, and Kylie. We had a great time. And my dad's icecream cake was delicious (so much for watching what I ate that day! ;) )

Yesterday we went to Dh's grandmother's house for a 4th of July get-together with his family. I put a ponytail in Kylie's hair and I thought it looked cute. But of course his family always finds something to criticize! I got a lecture about how I shouldn't try to make my white child look like an indian or a "colored" girl. :confused3 They sounded so racist and insulting (thank God dh is nothing like them!) and I informed them that I had Cherokee indian in me and that some of my closest friends have been black. It was fun watching them try to get their feet out of their mouths! Needless to say, we didn't stay long!

Anyway, Kylie had her 2 month checkup today. She is now 23.5 inches long (she was 20" at birth) and weighs 12 lbs 11 oz (she was 9 lbs 7 oz at birth). She was in such a happy, playful mood that I felt guilty knowing she was about to get her shots. She screamed and cried when the nurse gave the shots but was fine after I picked her up and soothed her. She seems okay other than being sleepy. She handled it much better than I expected. Her next appt. isn't until Oct. 5. It will be for her 4 month checkup but she will actually be 5 months then. Well I hope everyone had a nice holiday! We did!

P.S. Kylie has always been a good sleeper but she slept the entire night last night for the first time...from about 9:30 p.m. - 9:30 a.m. It was great! Wish us luck that it will happen again tonight!

SL: We also use pampers swaddlers. Jace leaked a lot at first. Then we learned to "point it down" and he now very rarely leaks. We tried a few other brands, but for us Pampers Swaddlers are the best.

LOL- pointing it down is key! :rotfl2: I learned that lesson too with the boys.

I still haven't tried Pampers - people keep buying me Huggies and I feel guilty not using them. I know all about pointing it down, but that's not the problem. Anything he does (no matter how small an amount) leaks right through the leg holes. He has such thin legs that we can't seem to get a good fit around them. Even the preemie size leaves a gap. I'm definitely trying Pampers Swaddlers next; I've heard really good things about them.

SL - how big is he? You might want to try some newborn sized diapers if he's still under 8 lbs or so. Russ has skinny legs, too, and we were in newborn size for about three weeks. We use Pampers now, but I'm going to be switching to Huggies because that's what I can get in Costco.

katerkat - he's 6lbs, approx 12oz. I'm using Huggies preemie and newborn sizes now. Although I have to say the situation has gotten a little better since his cord fell off and we don't need to fold the tops of the diapers over anymore. Now we're getting a much better fit (but still somewhat leaky). We also tried Luvs - DH seems to think they do a good job, but I don't like the tabs.

I never thought I'd be discussing diapers on a message board. This is great! :flower:

SL~ I hated Huggies! We had terrible problems with leaks too when we used those! And it wasn't just wet diapers either if you know what I mean! We used one pack of them and that was it. We switched after that to Luvs and Pampers and haven't had a problem since. I prefer the Pampers though b/c the Luvs fit a little bit differently on dd and Pampers just seem to work better. I just used her last Luvs this morning and will be buying Pampers from now on! I was hoping I would like a cheaper brand since Pampers are expensive but Pampers are the best so that's what we are using. Oh, and if you haven't already, register on Pampers.com and they will start sending you coupons. With the coupons the Pampers end up being around the same price as Luvs.

Well, Kylie slept through the night again last night! :cheer2: She slept from 9:30 p.m. till 9:30 a.m. I hope that this continues and it isn't just b/c she had shots or a growth spurt or something. Hopefully she'll do it again tonight! Third times a charm, you know! ;)

SL - I've tried Luvs, Pampers and Huggies and they all leak to me! Huggies leaks the least for us, so that's what we're using now.

Tasha - congrats on Kylie sleeping! I'm jealous!

Last night, we had Tropical Storm Cindy blow through here. We were out of power all night. Thank goodness we're back on because it was getting hot in here. I didn't want to leave Mia alone in the dark or with a candle burning so DH and I held her all night, and low and behold, she went six hours between feedings! I don't think that will happen again anytime soon!

SL - If you have unopened packages of Huggies, try exchanging them at a Wal-Mart. I received mostly Pampers and Luvs when my colleagues had a diaper shower for me. I have been returning the unopened packages every few trips to Wal-Mart. Were the diapers purchased there? I don't know. I am using the credit they give me to buy other diapers there plus the other stuff I need, too. Is this kosher? I guess techincally it's not, but Wal-Mart always comes out ahead where I'm concerned. As soon as I grab a cart, I'm way over what I should be spending anyway.

DS and I just returned from our local farmers' market. I am sweaty and tired. I think if he takes a nap I won't be too far behind him.

SL-Huggies leaked for me with both my children, especially DD. I don't know how many accidents I have had to clean up from them. I too, feel bad about not using them all up. But I think you will find only good things to say about the Pampers Swaddlers. That is what I mainly use and they work great.

I set up Meadow's little Exersaucer last night, she is still just a tad too small for it. She loves to kick and stand up though so I thought she might enjoy it more then me just holding her up. She likes it but can only tolorate it for so long. We went to Target last night and I bought her a little sun hat and a little bathing suit. We have a swimming party next weekend so I can't wait to see her in it and take tons of pictures.

I have a question for you guys. Meadow does not seem to like her rice cereal at all. She just rolls it around in her mouth and then spits it out. The doctor said she is ready to eat and even gave me a feeding schedule. What do you guys think? Any tips or pointers?

Tasha-Wish Meadow would sleep through the night. My DS did at 4 months so I am now waiting anxiously for DD to do the same. Wonder how long I will be waiting?

Thanks for all the advice. I got a little overzealous with the diapers I received and put a few packages in the diaper stacker right away. This weekend, my mother gave me a package and ripped it open right away to compare the newborn size with the preemie size, so unfortunately I have no unopened packs. Luckily (relatively speaking), these past few days he hasn't been napping AT ALL between feedings so I can catch a wet or dirty diaper right away, before it leaks.

Alice28 - congrats on your good news.

Tasha - congrats on Kylie sleeping through the night.

lulu - glad you guys made it through Cindy.

lissawynn - sounds like you had a good time at the farmer's market.

Gwene65 - have fun at the swimming party!

I hope I didn't forget anyone. If I did, I'm sorry! I tried to go back and read all the posts not pertaining to my Diaper Ordeal. Hope everyone is having a good day! :)

Tasha - congrats on Kylie sleeping through the night. I'm waiting patiently for Aidan to do the same :rolleyes1 The best he has done is 8 hours but it was from 6 pm until 2am.

SL - Luvs are my favorite diapers followed by Pampers. Aidan leaked all the time too.

Gwene65 - Did you just start Meadow on rice cereal? She probably just isn't used to eating from a spoon yet. It took my DS a while to get used to it when my doctor started him. He was only 3 months old.

Well, Aidan had his first trip to Chuck E Cheese. I took my older kids to meet up with my girlfriends and their kids there. He loved all the color and noise. He seems to thrive on being out and looking around. He's just like me; he hates being home! I feel so bad for my friends. One's husband just left her when her baby was 2 weeks old (she's 4 weeks now). The other is 6 months pregnant and her husband doesn't even want to feel the baby kick. She said they went to a July 4th picnic where she saw all of his good friends. None of them knew she was pregnant. Her husband never told them. I feel so bad for them. I don't even know what to say to either one.

I'm finally moving from the Mom-to-Be Board to here. Our daughter, Lillian Grace arrived last Wed, June 29th at 3:15 p.m. She was 6 lbs, 5 oz and 20 inches.

Our delivery turned into a c-section so my actual labor was short. However, the end result is perfect.

Gretchen

Congratulations Gretchen and Lillian Grace! :flower: That's a beautiful name. I hope you post some pics if you can.

ETA: I saw the picture you posted on the moms to be thread. She's beautiful!

Congrats from me, too!

You might want to start a new thread to announce her arrival as she is our newest DIS princess. princess:

Congratulations, Gretchen, and welcome Lillian Grace! :cheer2: :cloud9: I saw the pics you posted of her on the moms-to-be thread and she is so adorable! Glad you are joining us on this thread!

DisKim~ That is a really sad thing your friends are going through! Hopefully the one friend's dh will come around when the baby is born. I had a friend whose dh did the exact same thing! He didn't come around until they almost lost the baby about 5 months into her preg. That really woke him up. Their little girl just turned 2 last week and he adores her! As for your other friend, I really feel for her. Her dh is such a jerk! :sad2:

Well, Kylie slept from 9-6 this morning. I didn't fall asleep till 1 though (couldn't sleep) so I am hoping to catch a nap later. I just hope this isn't just a phase and she'll continue to sleep through the night!

Welcome Lillian Grace!

DisKim - Your friends' husbands sound like my soon-to-be ex-BIL. He wants nothing to do with his second daughter who just turned a year old. Honestly, I don't know what my SIL was thinking when she got pregnant the second time. He did nothing to help her with the first daughter she had. He does take Paige (his first kid) on overnights sometimes, and she thinks her daddy is wonderful and mommy is the bad guy b/c she makes her follow rules, etc. At least his other daughter won't know what a jerk her father is b/c she knows nothing of him (SIL moved in w/ her parents when the baby was 6 mo. old.
She should have known something was up when she found out he was married twice before and had a child with some random girl (he never sees this child).

On a happier note, my DSis and I rescued a tiny kitten yesterday. The poor little thing can't be more than 6 weeks old and is very skinny. DS is taking her to the vet this afternoon and is planning on keeping her. I would love another cat, but DH is maxed out with the two we have.
