Yep, Tasha, Madison had lots of hair like Kylie when she was born. And it stayed that way (same amount and length) till she was about 5 months. Then by the time she was 7 months old she was practically bald! She did have some hair on top, but almost nothing on the sides or back, so it looked like a mohawk on top! It finally started to grow back around 9 months and now it's actually getting kinda long.

I am a teacher, and I probably wouldn't go back. Luckily I had an awesome sub for the 3 months that I was out. She followed my procedures to the letter, and when I returned things were in order and it was like I had never left.

Well, I think I decided to just go back to work for a few days. I called our benefits officer and I'll lose my benefits if I don't go back. I'm covered under my DH but I'm sure it would be a nightmare. I just have to go with the attitude that I can't fix the damage that has been done this year. I just don't want to leave the baby even if it's only for a few days. It ought to be a real joy when I go back for real in September  .

Tasha - Wow, Kylie is two weeks already! Aidan turned one month yesterday. I just can't believe how fast it goes. I'm enjoying every day with him. I also have about 15 pounds left to lose. I started weight watchers since it has a plan for nursing mothers. I'm starving!! I'm just tired of wearing pants with an elastic waist and I refuse to buy bigger clothes. Hopefully, it will come off soon.

Hi everyone. I need some advice about going back to work so I thought I'd post the sitution here and see what you ladies think. I'm a high school teacher. I had to leave work at the end of January because I was put on bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy. I've been planning on going back on June 15th for the last week of school. Basically, I would have one full day of work and four days of final exams. I went in to visit my sub today and my classes are a mess. She is a retired teacher and just doesn't have her heart in it. I can't say I blame her but I'm afraid if I go back I'll have a lot of "cleaning up" to do. Other people in my department say my classes are so out of control now that I shouldn't even consider going back. What would you girls do? It's only a week of work, but I really don't want to leave the baby to go into a stressful situation. I need advice!

I know where you're coming from regarding returning to work. I was gone for most of the third quarter. I chose to return at the beginning of the last quarter b/c I didn't want to have to deal with a non-language arts person beginning a research paper project. I knew the papers would be a mess, and I didn't want to have to deal with that.
She did her thing for the third quarter, and I had no part of it. I just entered the grades when she was done.
If I were you I'd just let her finish the rest of the year. Go back to your room and reorganize AFTER the school year has ended. If there are problems/questions with what she's done, let your adiminstrator handle it.
Enjoy your summer with your new baby! I can't wait until our school year is over!

I have no idea how much weight I have left to lose. I just know for sure that my clothes don't fit yet.

It's no fun being at that in between clothes stage. My maternity clothes are too big (plus I don't want to wear them) but my regular clothes don't fit yet. I don't want to go buy a whole bunch of new clothes either. I know I'll have to buy a new outfit for Tyler's baptism and for a wedding we have to go to.

Totally unrelated question - I know there are plenty of Gymboree fans here - what are Gymbucks and how do you get them?

I hate the weight thing too; I have lost the Molly weight, but my clothes are still quite tight. I learned with the boys that it takes a good 6-9 months, even a year til you're back to normal....and even I hung onto about 10+ pounds from each boy; I'm 25 pounds heavier than when got preggo with my oldest. Hate it. I have just found it near impossible to diet while nursing, so I'm just doing my best. It's also hard with dh away to eat normally; it's hard to cook nice meals without another adult to share them. With the kids, they're happy with chicken/pizza/hot dogs/burgers & a side of cut up fruit/veg....it's too much of a hassle to make myself anything nicer.

Gymbucks--certain times a year Gymboree puts on this promo; for every $50 you spend you get a $25 gift cert. to come back & redeem for a certain time period. And you have to spend $50 to get the $25 off. A good deal, esp if you buy stuff that's already marked down. And it's about 6-8 weeks between getting the gymbucks & having to redeem it, so it doesn't feel like you just were at Gymboree spending $$...is that makes sense. I'm anxiously waiting for the next Gymbuck time, as I have a Gymboree wish list going.

I am happy to say I weighed again this morning and I now have only 10 lbs left till I am at prepregnancy weight. I am happy about it because I honestly have not been trying to lose any weight yet. I have been more concerned with adjusting to life with a newborn that I haven't really worried about it other than to occasionally step on the scale more out of curiosity than anything. I am still wearing some of my maternity clothes because I was told to wear looser clothing due to the c-section. I haven't even tried on my reg. clothes yet. Most of my maternity clothes are too big except some that I was only able to fit into during the 1st trimester before I "outgrew" them. So hey, at least they are finally getting some use! I really have quite a bit of weight that I need to lose that isn't even related to the preg. so I plan to start doing Weight Watchers again probably starting next week. I was doing it before we decided to have a baby and I was doing really well and didn't have a problem sticking with it. Plus, I am really not very hungry now that I am not preg. anymore so I figure this is the perfect time to start...before my appetite picks back up. Another thing that hopefully will keep me motivated is that Dh had a physical done 2 weeks ago and was told he is borderline diabetic. They told him to start eating better, exercise more, and give up soda. We don't have soda in the house. I don't drink it, but Dh tends to drink it often at work. So I figure we both need to make some lifestyle changes for our health as well as to set a good example for Kylie. Wish us luck with it! And good luck to the rest of you that are dealing with the post baby weight, etc.!

Regarding GymBucks- I just read on another website that they will be doing Gymbucks during Memorial Day weekend thru most of June; then you can redeem your Gymbucks in mid-July when the fall line comes out. :sunny: Cannot wait! I am *really* making it a goal to not be frivilous and put the majority of our extra money right now towards credit cards (paying them off before DH comes home next Jan/Feb) but I think I may have to spend $100 at Gymboree. At least $50 anyway. ;)

Tasha- I like WW too as a diet plan...well, just a life plan. I have heard they do plans for nursing mothers, but I just don't have the motivation right now....but I highly recommend them for any other mommies who want to start losing the weight quicker. I like WW because no food is a "bad" food. It's all about portion size, and choosing high fiber foods often (the higher the fiber, the more you can eat of it cause it had less "points" ---)

Alice28 - I agree that it's hard to stick to a diet while nursing. I'm a feeding machine all day. Aidan barely gives me time to get a drink let alone fix nice salads, etc. My DH comes home for lunch and makes sure that I'm able to eat something healthy. Otherwise, I'd probably grab a handful of pretzels for lunch. I've been on weight watchers (for nursing mothers) for a whopping two days now. So far, with DH's help in preparing meals, it's not so bad. I actually can't eat as much as they say nursing mothers should. I'm allotted 32 points which is a lot. They also say to eat 8 servings of fruits and veggies a day if you are nursing. That's a heck of a lot. I can't do it.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm going back to work for the last week of school. I would lose my health benefits it I didn't go back for a few days. I'm covered under my DH, but I'm sure that changing his insurance to my primary for two months would be a nightmare. I just don't want to go. I feel obsessed with Aidan. I can't stand two minutes without him. I think I have an addiciton problem. All I want to do is kiss him and smell his baby smell. I'm sure the rest of you can relate.

DisKim I had to laugh about your "obsession". I thought I needed to go back to work for some adult interaction, but I'd gladly stay home all day with Jimmy. Now that he's close to 4 mo., he's really developed quite a personality. When I go to my dad's after school to pick him up, he lights up when he sees me. Just think of how happy your baby will be to see you when you're done work!

Weight - I haven't been on the scale in a while, but I know I still have about 10 lbs. to lose. I'm not stressing about it anymore. I am not happy that my tummy is still a little flabby, and there's weight on my hips that didn't used to be there. Once school is over I'll have time to take walks and get into shape again. I'm just happy that I'll be home all day with the baby!

hi all..

i just wanted to check in with a question and also to tell all you new moms hi and see how things are going with you..

ok, this is pretty nasty and i need help from a mom that has older kids not a newborn.. my sweet darling madison (16 months) decided to take her diaper off in the crib this morning before i went in to get her and well... there is poop everywhere.. on the crib, sheets, who knows probably the wall too.. and she was covered in it.. all over her face, arms, legs, hair, hands... nasty nasty nasty.. so, my concern is what if she ate some of it? if she did i don't think it was very much, but should i be worried? will it just make her sick and then all is ok? she seems fine, running around now.. ate breakfast like a champ (probably trying to get the taste out of her mouth haha)

boy, what a mess.. :sad2: i guess thats what i get for letting her wear a gown to bed instead of pj's..

Leah

Yuck, I'm so sorry for you, nothing like having to hose out the nursery, LOL!!!! I'm thinking that since it's stuff that she's already digested, then it won't make her sick. Disgusting yes, sick no.

Ugh, Leah! That sounds like fun! Things to look forward to... :sad2:

Well, Kylie's umbilical cord stub fell off this morning. So here is a question: How long do I need to wait before I can quit giving sponge baths and put her in her little tub? Her little belly button looks pretty good so I wasn't sure if I still needed to wait or not.

We have been testing out all of the different types of diapers since she got home from the hospital as well. We haven't had any leaks with any of them since she is still a newborn. I figure we will have to deal with that when she starts moving around more in a few months. Anyway, we have used Pampers, Huggies, Luvs, White Cloud, and Dri Bottoms. I was really hoping that I would love either the Dri Bottoms or the White Clouds since they are the cheapest but unfortunately out of all of them those are the 2 I like the LEAST. I hate the tabs on them compared to the others. Huggies are okay, but I really like the Luvs and Pampers the best so far. Just thought I'd share how our little diaper experiment has gone so far. Have a great day! :wave2:

Leah, I had that happen once too...it's so yucky. I wouldn't worry about it if she may have gotten some in her mouth...she may have tasted just a little and decided it was yucky. I'm sure she'll be ok...have "fun" cleaning.

thanks all for your support in this ummmm yucky situation.. haha

T&S- we always tell moms at the hospital to give sponge baths until the cord falls off.. once that happens, he can be submerged in water.. that's what i did with my dd and no problems.. so i believe you can go ahead and use your little tub.. so much fun.. (they don't think so tho') haha i did the same experiment with diapers and i too loved pampers the best when madison was an infant.. however, when she started moving and crawling all over i liked huggies the best.. no accidents out the side/top with huggies..

Thanks, Leah! I figured it is okay to give her an actual bath but just wanted someone to confirm it for me. She actually loves sponge baths so I think she will really like a tub bath, but who knows? My mom says I loved baths from the start and especially liked getting my hair washed. Kylie is the same way so far.

And I also had tons of hair as a baby (like her) so I guess she is already taking after her mama. I hope Kylie doesn't lose any of her hair either. I never did and by 11 months it was to my shoulders. I am hoping hers will be the same way so I can do the 'Pebbles Flintstone' pony tail thing on top of her head like my mom did with me. ;)

Morning all!

Have fun with the bath Tasha :) Tyler has only had 1 real bath so far, he's getting another one tomorrow. When I'm by myself I stick with the sponge bath still because it's easier. He wasn't a huge fan of the tub, he didn't scream bloody murder, but he wasn't that thrilled about it. I can't wait until he loves bath time!

We had a long night last night. He was up a lot and pretty fussy, not sure why. Hopefully things are better today.

Enjoy your weekends!

Well, it's official...Kylie loves baths! She had her first "real" bath this morning since I wanted her to be all clean to see my grandparents who were coming to see her from Florida today. It was funny. When we first put her in the tub her eyes got as wide as saucers. You could tell she didn't know what to think at first. But just as quickly she was fine. Never fussed, cried, etc. She seemed to be quite content. I think I could have left her in there until the water got cold and that would have been just fine with her...lol! She is definitely an easy baby when it comes to baths. Takes after her mama that way. ;)

Now I have another question for all of you veteran moms on here. First of all, Dh and I always go to a water park every year and were planning to skip it this year but have been reconsidering since we now know Kylie loves water. We were thinking of taking her between July and August, when she will be between 2-3 months old. The dilemma is the water park is 2.5 hours away. If we do go we plan to stay overnight so we don't do 5 hours of driving on top of the water park. Don't want to overdo it with her. The water park is pretty "baby" friendly. It has a little beach area that is perfect for us to take her to. The problem we have is will she be too young to go on a drive that long and then to a water park? Have any of you taken your little ones to a beach or water park that young? Plus, we can't put sunblock on her that young so what would we do about sun protection? Would you even bother taking her or would you just skip it till next year? Any advice is welcome.

We traveled w/ Caroline to WDW on a plane when she was 3 mos. and so she was in the carseat for 5 hours and she did fine. We also did a couple other trips w/ her where she had to sit in the car for a long time. Babies usually like the movement of the car and sleep most of the way. If you are nursing, you might have to count on stopping half way to feed her.

As far as the sun..... You can put a long sleeve light weight shirt and long pants and big hat on her and she should sit under an umbrella most of the day. You can take her for a swim, and then put her back under the cover soon after. Be careful not to get her ears under water because I hear that ear infections are easy for them to get at that age. We took Tristan to Discovery Cove at Seaworld and just kept him covered while sitting on the beach w/ Grandma and Pop Pop and he enjoyed the day and didn't get sunburn.

Madison has always loved the water too. Her 1st bath was around 2 weeks old also, in the baby bathtub, and then we drove to my mom's house (about 200 miles) that week and well, no baby bathtub there, so I took her in the real tub with me and she really loved it. She was so happy, plus she realized she could nurse at the same time so she was really happy then, and then fell asleep. She still loves the bathtub now, in fact sometimes she doesn't want to get out.

But anyway, onto your question. I'm sure you'd be okay at the water park, just will be a bit more challenging. We took Madison on a few long car trips to my mom's at 2, 6, 10, and 14 weeks (and many times after, but they don't relate as much to you), and though she might be an exception, all of them except the first were nightmares. We were there for a week each time, so it's not like we drove 4 hours there and then turned around and headed home, so that's not the problem. She literally screamed the entire ride. She hated her carseat. Generally short trips at home were okay, but anything over about 20 minutes and she would scream nonstop till we took her out of the seat. No sleeping in either direction. So those 4 hour drives to Jersey became 5-6 hour drives with all the stops we'd make to give her (and ourselves) a break from the screaming. We always got her a seat on airplanes, and we took 5 air trips with her between 3-6 months, and she was generally better in her carseat on the plane, very little crying, but the car was absolutely awful. When we switched her from her infant seat to the convertible carseat around 9/10 months, she really improved. I guess maybe the infant seat just wasn't too comfortable. In fact, I just drove to NJ Thursday and back Friday, alone with Madison, for a funeral and she was fine both ways, and it took 6 hours there and 7 hours back (soooo much traffic). So if it were me, and I had to make the 2.5 hour trip when Madison was that age, I probably would have done it, but just stopped many times.

About the sun, check with your ped. about sunblock. We asked 2 of Madison's drs about it for our Disney trip when she was almost 3 months old and both said it was fine to use on kids under 6 months. I know that opinion varies by dr, so check with yours, but it might be okay to use it. We tested a few types on her arm before the trip and she was fine with them all. Also, although Madison loves the bathtub, she was not too thrilled with the pool at Disney. She hates water in her face (likes her hair washed, just don't let the water run down her face!) and kids kept splashing near her and yelling/screaming so she was less than enthusiastic about it so we didn't stay in the water that long. We debated taking her to Blizzard Beach, but after her reaction to the pool we shut that idea down cause it seemed like it would be a waste of time since the non-rider would basically have to stay in the shade since we didn't think she'd like the wave pool.

Now that trip was at almost 3 months (turned 3 months the day after we got home). We went back to WDW a month later and took her back in the pool and she really enjoyed it that time. She loved me sitting her on the ledge and pulling her into the pool, spinning her in a circle, "throwing" her into the water (without letting go of course), etc. She was about a week away from 4 months old at that point. We also went on the Disney cruise that trip and she had fun under the umbrella on the beach at Castaway Cay. We had fun too, just that we had to snorkel alone, etc., so a little change. A couple of weeks later we went to another pool and got her a little baby boat and she loved floating in it in the water. She was a little over 4 months so not quite sitting yet, but she stayed in the boat okay and actually fell asleep from the rocking of the boat. And as you can see in the sig photo she is quite happy in the pool now.

So my suggestion (after a way too long story, sorry!) is to go as late in the summer as you can, when she'll be as old as possible. I think that's good cause you won't worry about her being as 'fragile', plus she'll be more aware of what's going on and will enjoy herself more. I wouldn't skip the trip if you want to go cause I'm sure Kylie will be fine, just plan to stop on the drive (you may not have to, but just keep it in mind), plan to do a lot of attractions alone/wait in the shade a lot, bring a big cooler for the bottles, and lots of extra swim diapers and an extra swimsuit and you'll be fine. Yes, we had a swim diaper explosion on Castaway Cay and no spare swimsuit on the beach with us!! And remember to bring a camera to get her 1st trip to a waterpark.
