DisneyPhD, we have a pillow for Madison now too, but she sleeps on her tummy mostly so she never uses it. We gave it to her when she was sick too at first, but she never really took to the idea. She has been in a bed since 14 months, but for the past month or so has been sleeping on the floor. This week we put a fleece receiving blanket on the floor for her since it just looked so uncomfortable (it's carpeted, but still). We still have a pillow there, but mostly so she doesn't hit her head on my nighttable-she really doesn't use it as a pillow though. It's sorta weird having her sleep on the floor, but she'll sleep all night (or sometimes wake up once to make sure I'm still in the room) so that's fine with me!

Oh, just to clarify, I'm definitely going to Nashville with Joey for his interview, but I'm still unsure of the Arizona interviews. Nashville is 2 days/1.5 nights (we get home around midnight the 2nd night) so I'm sure I'll manage that one. I don't want to take her with us to that one cause they provide a tour of the area and housing with a realtor (yea for that one, a pushy realtor in a town I might not even live in!) and members of the hospital. I really want to do that cause if we do end up there I'd like to have some background on the area before we have to move. We find out where we'll be going on March 16th and then have to move in June, so not much time to explore the new area to find adequate housing.

So my mom will definitely be watching Madison for that trip. Then we got to Minnesota that weekend and Madison is coming with us for that. We have the whole weekend there so we'll drive around exploring the area (and visiting the Minneapolis area too since we've never been ther). My only fear is that it will be so cold while we're there that it will turn me off to living there. We get back from Minnesota on 1/16 and then we'd leave for Arizona on 1/18, probably in the afternoon. So that's what I'm not sure about. It would be the 18th-23rd or 24th that we'd have to leave Madison, or just take her along. She'll still be under 2 so I guess I can always decide at the last minute and take her as a lap baby if I have to (though I can imagine how horrible that would be-holding a 23 month old on my lap on a plane for 5 hours!). I think she'd be fine on the weekdays with my mom since she's in school 3 hours, naps for 1-2 hours after she gets home, then goes to bed at 7, so she'd only be up for about 5 hours a day, but weekends would be a little more challenging for both Madison and my mom. It's good to hear positive reports from you Alice28, cause that gives me more confidence about it. I still don't know though, mostly cause we'd be so far that it's not like I can get back too easily.

Loretta, in your case I have no idea what I'd do. I think I said before that I was going to leave Madison for 4 nights when we took a Disney cruise when she was 3.5 months old but we ended up bringing her along instead. For you, the 2 nights has both pluses and minuses to taking her with you. You have the plus that it's only 2 nights so if it's hard then at least it's not a long time, but then the minus that it's a lot of gear to deal with and if she's unhappy with your schedule then you compromise a lot since you don't have much time there. Oh, and I bought some princess stuff for Madison in the smallest size too (I guess 2/3) but she can't fit into it yet. Thank gosh cause she has no interest in princesses whatsoever, and in fact was afraid of them when we were in Disney. She loves Buzz and Stitch though, and if I had known that I would have gotten more of their stuff instead.

I was wondering about the baby and if it was exposed to smoking at all (I know this makes a big difference). Tell me about the study with the pacifier. My DD's have always used one as a baby, but I didn't know it helped reduce sids. :teeth: It also makes me feel better about SIDS knowing I did all I could to prevent it too. :teeth:

When little was around 13 months old I put a flat pillow in her bed to prop her up since she was very congested. After that point she started sleeping all night. I don't know if it helped or just timing, but she sure likes her crib better now. Some people have their babies in actual beds by now so I figured a flat not very soft pillow shouldn't be too bad, she is always a back sleeper too.
Well, I guess I should clarify that in the case of the baby that died from SIDS in my neighborhood it could have easily been prevented. The mom apparently is a very sound sleeper and accidentally smothered the poor baby by rolling on it or something in her sleep. Now I do let Kylie sleep in the bed with me if she wakes up in the middle of the night b/c I am too tired to stay up and as long as she is laying with me she will go right back to sleep. And I can assure you I would never have the problem of sleeping too soundly to wake up. I am an extremely light sleeper and EVERYTHING (and I do mean everything!) wakes me up! If I knew I was a very sound sleeper I would not let her sleep in the bed with me at all so as sad as the death was (which they chalked up to SIDS) it could have been prevented. As far as the pillow for your dd at 13 months, I don't think there's is anything wrong with that. From everything I have read and been told the risk of SIDS is pretty much over by 12 months. It is highest for babies between 2-4 months and it is still a risk until 6 months but after 6 months it decreases significantly and by 12 months the risk is almost nonexsistent. And I agree. Who knew I was actually doing something right by letting dd have a pacifier?! ;) Here I thought I was being a bad mommy and maybe I wasn't, lol!

Anyway, if you do a google search and type in the words SIDS, pacifier, and prevent (or prevention) it will give you a lot of articles about it but just to make things easier here is one article about it:

Pacifiers May Prevent SIDS
A New Study Recommends Back Sleeping and Pacifiers, Not Bed-Sharing

Oct. 10, 2005— This morning, the American Academy of Pediatrics is releasing new recommendations for preventing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, which kills about 2,500 babies a year.

The AAP recommends babies sleep on their backs not their sides at all times; bed-sharing is not recommended; and research indicates an association between pacifier use and a reduced risk of SIDS, which is why the APP is recommending the use of pacifiers at naptime and bedtime through the first year.

ABC medical contributor Dr. Tim Johnson said the recommendation about pacifier use is the most surprising.

"Pacifiers have gotten a bad name for concerns that it might interfere with breastfeeding and proper tooth development," Johnson said. "But the evidence does show pacifiers reduce the risk of SIDS for reason that aren't totally clear."

Johnson said the recommendations about back sleeping fine-tune AAP's original guidelines from its 1994 "Back to Sleep" campaign, which advised caregivers to put infants to sleep on their backs or sides. It is estimated back or side sleeping has increased from 13 percent to 70 percent during the past decade.

The campaign has been credited with a 50 percent reduction in the number of deaths from SIDS from about 5,000 infants each year to fewer than 2,500.

The new AAP guidelines say there is no evidence commercial devices that claim to prevent SIDS are actually effective.

"The most important thing is not to smoke during pregnancy or after it," Johnson said. "Also, keep soft objects out of the crib, avoid overheating the room. Keep your baby lightly clothed in a room at a comfortable temperature."

To find out more click the link, but that is pretty much the gist of it!

justhat~ I would definitely go to Arizona. Madison will be nearly 2 and is comfortable with your mom so I honestly think she'd be fine. Plus, if it is somewhere that you might end up living you should get to have the housing tour. I would definitely want to see where I might be living but that's JMO. I think the separation will probably be harder for you than her. I know the idea of leaving Kylie is probably A LOT harder for me than her. Oh, and I used to live in Arizona! I LOVED it there! And I used to visit my grandparents in Minnesota and I live close to TN so it seems that you will be visiting all the places that I have somehow been connected to in the past, lol!

zalansky~ If you can leave Cameryn to go to WDW then I say go for it. I can tell you I wouldn't have been able to when she was at that age but I could now, I think. It was the hardest for me when she was between 0-4 months b/c I felt she needed me more than anyone else even though I know my mom could easily do everything I can do, but still. Nothing wrong with leaving her if you can do it. I just know it's so hard to leave them when they are that little!

Tasha, that's great to know that you liked Arizona. That's where we'd like to move permanently, but we're interested in the Phoenix area and there are no anesthesia residencies there so it has to wait till 2010. We'd be in Tucson from 2007-2010 if we end up in Arizona in his residency match though. He also applied to a hospital in Phoenix for his intern year (which would be 7/1/06-6/30/07) so we could be there for a year too. Where in Arizona did you live? As much as DC is my #1 choice for intern year, I sorta want to go to Phoenix because it would sorta be a good trial run. It would only be a year so if we hated it we'd know we don't want to move there when residency is over, but if we like it then we know we want to go back.

Where in Minnesota did your grandparents live? We'd be in Rochester, which I believe is in the southeast part of the state. Hopefully that's a good place in terms of weather and maybe not being as cold as further north!

Oh, and Madison slept with a pacifier till 16 months when she gave it up on her own. We think it was cause she went from basically no teeth to 7 teeth in a week and it felt funny after that. I'm glad she had it as a baby though after I read that SIDS article.

Tasha+Scott, thanks so much for posting that. Who knew we were doing something right with the passi! I guess we don't belong in the bad parent club anyway! ;) :rotfl:

That is sad about your friend. We never slept with my oldest, she always was more comfortable in her own space. Lily wants to be with us all the time, but we don't sleep as well with her sence we are light sleepers so we always insisted in putting her back in her own bed or crib when we could. Some nights she spent more with us then in hers because it was the only way we could get any sleep. I know with me facing her there is no way I would roll on her. After being pregnant sleepin on my tummy wasn't an option and those full breast keep me from doing that too.

I was thinking it was time for a pillow. I can't remember when we started with her sister, but it really has made a differnce for her. She LOVES our bed, a new $$ pillow top one. I fear we are not going to be able to go buy her a cheap $100 matress for her new twin bed but get a nicer one. This girl likes quaility. :teeth:

justhat, I know what you mean by letting her sleep on the floor. My oldest fell out of bed so much for a while we just gave up. What ever makes them happy and if they can sleep. I know the struggle you have had with getting Madison to sleep during the night, take what you can get. Lily has really only started sleeping most of the night in the past month (sense getting totally dairy and egg free.)

What's funny is that we do storytime in her bed, and as soon as I'm done reading she takes her blankie, stuffed alligator, and stuffed Buzz and climbs out of the bed and onto her blanket on the floor next to my bed. Sorta weird, but she sleeps so much better it's unbelievable. Not sure why the floor makes her sleep better, but hey, if it works I'm not gonna question it!

Just don't step on her in the middle of the night. :earseek:

Anna has the bedrail back on her bed and I find we both sleep better that way. I hurt my back trying to lift her back into bed.

One night I went in there to get Lily who had been crying for a while (they share a room, thank God Anna sleeps like a log) and I thought Anna was on the floor. It was her princess dress along with a Ariel wig I got last year 90%off! Scared the pants off me because I almost stepped on it.

This morning Lily was wondering my room while I tried to rest more (she woke way to early.) Moslty she just pulls the things out of my nightstand and trys to poke me in the face. (the room is child profed and full of toys, the door is shut so she can't get out.) I heard her crying direclty under me, she had crawled under the bed to get a toy under there. It is a king size bed so she was really under there. I had to crawl under myself and pull her out. What a way to wake up!

BTW, still now walking yet, but so much closer. She does walk with her push toys and things like that and with hand help, but she prefers to hang on things instead of people.

DisKim: Sorry to hear about your injured disk - how painful!
KristiKelly and Bellacam: How awful about the loss of these babies. I've been hearing so many SIDS stories lately - it makes me so nervous too.
Alice28: Hope Molly is feeling better. So glad to hear the countdown till your husband's return has begun.
Zalansky, Minnesota, and Justhat: I love all the pictures of your little ones - thanks for sharing.
Tamie: how is Tyler's rash? I hope its getting better.

I am so glad it's the weekend. I need some snuggle time with Jace. He's feeling better, but still has a cough. Tommorow we have a family birthday/Halloween party at my mom's. All the little one's are coming in costume. I can't wait!

Not much new to report - just wanted to check in and say hello. Hope everyone is doing well.

Another mom just checking in.

Don't know much either. I'm tired today! Molly is back to feeling just fine. She slept from 9:30-5 last night. Nice!

I went to Gymbo today to return some of the ballerina line cause I like this new cupcake line for baby girls much better. I decided that could be a perfect 1st birthday outfit! So I bought the dress, a turtleneck and those cupcake tights in 18-24 months (EEK) since she's in 12-18 month now. Could have bought so much more, but only spent about $7. I've become jaded to their prices and I need to snap back into reality....I used to wait til stuff was at least 50% off before I bought it, not just 25%! (I had a 25% off coupon for today, given to me from a friend since you had to spend $100 to get it).

Guess what Molly ate today- a hamburger! She just STARES at us when we eat and she's not liking the baby food very much. So I tore up Sam's McDonald's burger into teeny tiny pieces and she thought that was awesome! (Had to go to McD's today cause the Chicken Little toys were out.....   ).

Can you believe November is in a few days? Yay! I need to get to the party store to buy invitations for Sam's party- he wants "Bionicle" theme. Oh boy. I am just going to let him invite 6 friends over, I'll get some take n bake pizza and have them watch Madagascar (I think that will be the latest kid flick to come out on DVD by Thanksgiving- his bday is that weekend) and then just buy cupcakes. We did Chuck E Cheese last year and not only was it exhausting, it was EXPENSIVE.

Did I tell you all that Molly has the Army crawl down pat? She can crawl from room to room---YIKES! Break out the outlet covers!

DisKim- How is your back?
Tkyes- How is Tyler's rash?
Tasha- have things smoothed out from DH's pay mixup?
Joats- hope you get lots o' cuddle time with Jace this weekend.
lissawynn- how is school going?

DisKim - Hope you're feeling better. Back pain is the worst.
Tkyes - Hope Tyler's rash is better.
Joats - Glad to hear Jace is feeling better. Hope you have a great weekend.
Tasha - Good for Kylie! She's getting so big.
Hillbeans - Hope Liam's doing better.
Bellacam - So sorry to hear about your friend's baby. That's so sad.
Zalansky - I hope you enjoy the rest of your maternity leave. It's nice that they pay you for part of it. I took 3 months off and didn't get paid for a single day.
Justhat - Good luck to your DH on his interview.
Alice28 - Happy birthday to Sam!

After all that, I really hope I didn't miss anyone. I love everyone's new pictures too! I hope everyone can post Halloween pictures. I can't wait to dress Lucas up.

No new news on our end. We're all doing just fine.

hi all!

We survived DH being gone this week. He was gone from Tuesday until Friday. Boy are we glad to have him back!

Tyler's rash isn't any better :( I think his cheeks might be getting better from the aquafor, but the rash all over his body is the same. I really wish I could pinpoint what the rash is. I think I might post a seperate thread on the CB asking for people to share their baby rash experiences. I'm grasping at straws. We are going to try an Aveeno baby oatmeal bath tomorrow.

Question - how long should I eliminate something before I should expect to see results? I mean if I thought it was food related, how long would I remove that food before I should see the rash clearing up?

I can't wait to see everyone's Halloween pictures. We have such cute babies here!

Nice job restraining yourself at Gymboree Robin. My mom just bought Tyler a Christmas present from there today. She got him the penguin sweater and striped turtleneck for underneath. It's very cute.

Glad to hear that Molly is feeling better.

bellacam - that is horrible. I'm so sorry to hear that.

I just need to say thank you to everyone on this thread! Thank you to Robin for starting this. I love that I can come here and vent or ask questions or even just hear about everyone elses babies. This is such a wonderful thread with some really wonderful people on it!!

Gotta run!

Tamie

Hi everyone! I guess I can officially join your thread now. I haven't had a chance to keep up w/ your thread because I've been so busy getting everything lined up and organized for our new arrival. And then I was in the hospital for 5 days due to the C-section. Since then I've been trying to get acclimated to dealing w/ visitors each day, my DH going back to work, and having 3 children. But things are going rather smoothly thus far and I couldn't be happier. I love being a mommy to 3. So I will have to try and catch up w/ your thread over the next several weeks. I thought I would give you some details of the birth though.

Well, I was scheduled for a C on the 26th, but we didn't make it that far. On Sunday the 16th, I had contractions every 2 to 4 min and so we called our Ob-Gyn and went in for a monitoring to check, but the contractions were not productive... so they sent me home. Tuesday, I cleaned the rest of my house just in case I didn't have another chance. That night my DH and I got our flu shots so Wednesday I felt a little under the weather. Thursday I woke up and blew my mucous plug, an indicator that labor has started although it might not be for wks. So we went back in and my contraction intensity increased greatly, but they still were not productive. Great. I asked why wait until I'm in full blown labor to deliver... wouldn't it be better to deliver before then? But the doctor explained that an elective C cannot occur until the 39th wk and I was only at the 38th. So I went back home.... again. That night I had contractions, intense ones. I woke my DH up at 2 AM and told him we were going in to get monitored again on Friday. I thought, "Why can't I just break water and then they will have to deliver?" I didn't want to have contractions all weekend. Well, at 3 AM I broke water, I called the doctor, and we went in to deliver.

At 7:04 AM, we delivered our beautiful, healthy baby boy, Sebastian Winslow. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days and just came home on Tuesday. He has a great disposition and is such a happy baby. We are very lucky parents. The delivery went very well and I feel pretty good. I overdosed on meds at the hospital once, but that was the worst. I just rode that out and was better in a couple hours. Other than that, the birth was perfect. Here are some pics of our new addition. Hope you enjoy.

Brigitte-
What a beautiful baby boy! All your kids are adorable and I love their Halloween costumes! I give you credit for riding it out so well with your trips to the hospital. Glad your C went well too. :flower:

Tamie - I agree with you that this thread is wondeful...I love signing on and reading the new posts every day.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Congrats Brigitte! Sebastian is such a cute baby (and your other two are cuties too!). I remember your photos of them when they were much younger from a thread where you gave me baby advice awhile back. Madison was only a couple of months old so I guess it was about a year and a half ago-wow, have they grown! Tristan looks like a very proud big brother. And I love the name Sebastian (and luckily for me so does my husband, it's one of the few names we agree on)! If we ever have 2 boys the 2nd will be Sebastian (1st one I am naming after my dad since he died when I was 17).

We just got back from trunk-or-treating at a friend's church. It was lots of fun for the kids, and such an easy way to get a lot of candy very quickly! My friend's 2 little boys were dressed up as frog princes-very cute. I'll post some photos once I upload them.

Congrats Disney Enthusiast and welcome Sebastian! :goodvibes :cloud9: All 3 of your kids are beautiful!

justhat~ We lived on Williams AFB in Arizona but I have been to both Phoenix and Tucson as well as Canyon Lake, the Grand Canyon, Waterdog (which I think is now closed) and many other places. It's a fun state. The irony is that I was really sick when we lived there due to the dry air and was in and out of hospitals there and yet I only have good memories! :confused3 Plus it only rained ONCE in the 3.5 years we lived there! But I still loved it! I don't remember where my grandparents lived in Minnesota (that's where my grandmother is from) b/c they moved when I was still really little. They moved to MS and now they live in FL.

Alice~ Things are slowly getting better with Dh's job...so we hope! We received a refund from our cancelled WDW trip which helped tremendously!

Tamie~ Kylie got a rash a couple of months ago which was either from a new lavendar lotion (Johnson's bedtime lotion, I think it was) we put on her or from a new scented dryer sheet that I accidentally put in with her clothes in the dryer. The rash didn't seem to bother her but I felt terrible. I knew it had to be from one of those 2 things but I wasn't sure which one so I made sure we stopped using both altogether. It took a few days for the rash to go away after that, I think. Poor Tyler! Hope it clears up soon!

Well, Kylie has officially gotten too long for her infant carseat. That was pretty clear when I put her in it this morning and her feet hung an inch or so off of it! So we headed to Toys R Us and got her a new one today. I really like it so far and she does too apparently. I dressed her up since they were having their Geoffery's Halloween thing at Toys R Us. The nice thing was they had a special where if you spent $50 or more you could get a gigantic stuffed Pooh bear for only $7 (which I easily spent buying the car seat)! It was originally $30. Kylie loves Pooh and her room is done in it so of course I bought it for her. She loves it, but I think I am going to make it a Christmas present.

She also has her 2 bottom teeth coming in now. I found that out a few days ago when she grabbed my finger to gnaw on it (which she tends to do a lot lately!) and I felt them. I looked and sure enough I can just see the tips trying to break through! SO when should I expect them to come all the way through? I am having her pics made next Sat. and I would love it if she had her 2 bottom teeth showing in it!

Okay, hope you don't mind but here are some recent pictures of Kylie that I thought I'd share! The last 3 she is in her bunny costume and the last one is with dh holding her outside in our yard:

EDIT TO ADD - KYLIE's PICTURES ARE ADORABLE!!!!Brigitte - Congratulations and welcome to the new mom's club (aka, the no sleep club) - - ha ha.

Your baby is adorable!!!

Tammy - I agree with you - it's so nice to have a place to go and share stories and things we're all going through with our babies. Hope Tyler's feeling better soon.

Anyway, we hit the 5 week mark yesterday - and for the last few days Liam has had terrible Colic. Anywhere from 5:30 pm through 10 pm, for about 2 hours, he'd just scream bloody murder. We would take turns driving him around in the car or walking around with him in our arms. Our poor 4 yo son was also getting stressed out from all of the yelling.

I reread some of my baby whisperer book, and we started E.A.S.Y (Eat, Activity, Sleep, You-time) in 3 hour increments give or take, but we also started swaddling Liam up tight after his scream last night, and so far, knock on wood, we've had a wonderful evening. He took 2 great naps today, one for over 3 hours, and he didn't make a peep tonight. I didn't realize how bad his startle reflex was until I really paid attention to it, and he's so alert that the swaddle helps calm him down from the overstimulation. He has yet to sleep more than 3.5 hours at a stretch, even at night, so if this really starts to work we'll all be so very happy. It was so nice to have a night where we all weren't pacing the floors or driving around in the car. I don't know how people who have children that are colicky all day deal with the crying. For us it was only 3 nights of 2 hours of crying and it was horrible. I just hope this really does the trick, time will tell.

Off to bed, talk with you ladies soon.

Brigitte - Congratulations! :flower: Sebastian is a beautiful baby. You have a lovely family.

Tasha - I love Kylie's pictures. She is adorable in the bunny costume.

Lucas has recently started using his booster seat. He still can't sit up on his own yet so we use a blanket to prop him up. Here's the latest picture:

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Great pictures Tasha!! We had to get the bigger carseat too. It seems so soon!

Congratulations Brigette - Sebastian is beautiful. You have a gorgeous family!!

Hillary - I'm so glad to hear that Liam is doing better. Swaddling was a lifesaver for Tyler too. I hope things continue to go well.

SL - Lucas is adorable. We started using the booster too. It's way too messy to feed him cereal or food on your lap anymore. Lucas looks so cute!!!

Tamie

Aw, Lucas looks too cute! I love seeing all the new pictures of everyone's babies!

I agree that I love this thread! This thread and the moms to be thread during my pregnancy have been my favorite threads so far.

Kylie didn't really start sitting upright on her own in her highchair until 4.5-5 months. And she just started using her walker at 5 months but she can really move in it. She has run over my feet several times...OUCH! She is able to sit unsupported now but not for really long periods yet. Usually just a min. or so right now but she's getting there. And she is able to get on her knees and make them move forward to crawl but she can't figure out she needs to use her arms too. She knows how to push up onto her arms and everything but she doesn't know to do it when she gets on her knees. Once she figures out that she needs both arms and knees then I am thinking she will be all over the place. It's exciting but I am not sure I am ready for her to be so mobile yet either, lol!

I can't believe Kylie will be 6 months next Saturday! I really, really can't believe a whole half year has flown by already! Unreal, isn't it Tamie? I can't believe that Tyler is already 6 months too!

Good morning everyone! Daylight savings time didn't seem to have much of an effect on things here at our house. Jimmy was awake at his usual time, just an hour "earlier" than yesterday.
My DS, mom, and I went shopping yesterday and I managed to get a few Christmas things. We got our dad's wife a new crockpot from the boys and I got my nephew two Playdoh sets at Target (they were $6.77!). We're going to buy our dad a camping stove, new boots, and some kind of gun book. Our mom is the toughest one to buy for and she wasn't seeing anything she wanted yesterday.
I also got Jimmy two pairs of mittens and another hat. I also had to buy size 4 diapers! I have a few size 3 packs left from my diaper shower and I want to use them up. Jimmy is almost too big for them!

School is going, well, it's going. The first marking period is over on Monday. I have papers to grade and much to do before our grades are due on Friday. It's going to be a busy week here.

All of our babies are getting so big! Jimmy is going trick or treating tonight for a little while. I'm not going to get any candy, just dress him up and take him out with his cousin for about an hour. I'll post some pics later!
